  1. Guys, At the moment I'm using a EG8 which I bought from my parents 2 years ago. I was having this plan for sometime to De-Modding the car. Infact my main idea is to Swap a B16 engine & to entirely re-build the car to a brand new kinda condition. But I have no idea of putting any body kits & other fancy stuff.(Only to increase the peformace and to keep the car in its original state) I went trough old threads & gathered some valuable details. But I have some questions to clarify before I invest in this project. 1) I checked many motor parts shops for a motor and none of them have B16 hense they have D15 motors in stock. Is there a place where you'll recomend me to get down an engine? (And the complete set) 2) Will I have to pay frequent visits to my Garage after the Swap?(Provided if they don't do a proper job) 3) Any perticular experienced garage to visit? I hope racersedge will give his thoughts in this regard.
  2. Ash, Afaik Shimano do not manufacture Bikes any more but they do have Gears, brakes etc.... Even though Shimano is a Japanese brand, most of there goods are now manufactured in China.
  3. Timmy, I pass Sugath Cycle daily. When one of my friend wanted to purchase a bike we visited there couple of days to have a look at his stock. He has a good collection & knows in and out of this trade. He has bikes from Rs 5000 to Rs 150,000/= Few brands to name, Tomahawk (Brand new & couple of used ones), Peugeot (used), Jaguar (used), Giant (Used), Gohst (Brand new), & finally Scott (Only brand new with carbon fiber frame) We first decided to buy a Giant used bike for Rs 25,000/= But when my friend saw a Brand new Gohst bike he fell in love with it & wanted to own it pretty badly. We managed to take this white beauty away from the shop for Rs 70,000/=. When we did a bit of research about this bike the average retail pice was around Rs 125,000/=. So end of the day it was a pretty good deal, & mind you these a not gimmicks. Scott bikes were not mountain bikes henece it's used for road racers (Example - Tour De France) Most of the national level cyclists place there order with him, & if you need he will import a bike that is not in his stock. All the best with your hunt! (Lastly this is not an Advertisment, just thought of sharing a personal experience with a fellow Bike enthusiast )

  6. Rover ma man, edit you signature as follows. 2004-2005 Maruti 800 (piece of crap)/ 2005-2006 Nissan FB14 / 2006-2009 Nissan N16 (My lucky car)/ 2009-2011 Nissan Tiida (A white elephant) / 2011- 2012 Toyota Prius (Wish I had the Maruti,it does better on fuel than this car)
  7. First of all please answer my question. Did you see the car at Toyota lanka, or saw it for the very first time at a vehicle sale last year after the tax was deducted??? And then joined Autolanka and open new threads as if you owned one for a couple of years. When they intitially brought it down, T.L. service charges were pretty high. Also they were not confident of the vehicle & after sales service. They brought it down just to show off the car. Just like there formula 1 car they had in the showroom. (Now please don't tell me you didn't even see the F1 car)
  8. Califor & Rover, GOD's of Sri Lankan Hybrid cars, I bet none of you'll even saw the Prius when it was initialy brought down by Toyota Lanka. I was one of the first few people to go on a test drive. (Lucky me, I live in Wattala & the compnay my father used to work decided to buy a couple of Prius, later they changed their minds considering the cost of maintenance)
  9. Nothing against Hybrid owners, but this is a true incident.A person in my lane (A degree holder and a Manager) bought a Prius from a well known car dealer in Nagoda Kandana (who was previosly survived selling Chinese crappy vehicles). I don't know why this kind of educated dumb asses buy vehicles from dealers without even checking there track record. This same dealer once sold a van to one of my best buddies brother. After some time he has noticed some corrosion under his van. To see he has bought a lemon since the dealer has sold him a vehicle which was caught to the 2004 Tsunami. After he took legal action, the dealer has threatened him and asked him to withdraw the case. Fearing for his life my friedns brother did withdraw the court case & he was given another van from the dealer and took away the Tsunami one. When I related this story to the person who bought the precious prius, he said it's OK & said these are the vehicles of the future.(Oh Right!!!!) I still can't understand why these people want to make fraud dealers this rich!
  10. Don't know the quality of the house they are planning to biuld with that cheap price tag. Any way I don't recommend any one to approach those big construction companies. They will quote high prices & the house will last Max 10 years. If you go trough the Sunday papers (Sinhala) they have their advertisments about thier construction work and else where in the same paper they are asking contractors to join with them in building houses and become a mutimillion contractor. My advice is to build your house by your self. I jolly well know that this is not an easy task. But if you can ask your father to be involved with the construction (assuming you are employed in a 9-5 job) you can save a thumping amount in your final bill.Specially on sand, cement & bricks. These are the stuff mass contactors keep a huge margin on.
  11. Duncan, Several days on my way to office I have seen a 3whell with a sticker behind "Blackberry boys" . I will try to get a pic and upload soon.
  12. What will happen? Pre school maths! When the Government reduse the Tax a value of a second hand car will go down by Rs 50,000/= (Max) When the Government increase the Tax the value of the same car goes up by atleast Rs 100,000/= Sri Lanka.....A land like no other!
  13. 2 months back my uncle bought a 121 G grade for around 3 Milion. So I assume a X grade might go around 2.7 million. You can't get 1 for 2.2 Mil for sure. But a Carina yes.
  14. Madmax, Your correct. As you can see I also joined AL in the same era.(Honda EG8 bodykit days ) Intiallly we did get others opinion in what car to buy. But now new members just come in and open new threads without searching or going trough old forums. It's been nearly 5 years since I reactivated my ID in AL until yesterday (30/04/2011). I was dipressed to see people arguing, condeming each other & finding Grammer mistakes rather than discussing about vehicles. Any ways for Hybrid fans, we'll leave them to discuss there own issues & opinions.
  15. My manager uses a Vios as a daily runner. No problems uptodate & does fuel well. If I was to take a decision, I would go for a Vios rather than a Carina, considering the year of manufacture & fuel consumption. Only draw back is that compared to a 121 in Vios the leg space is much lesser. If you can get one below 2.5Mil, you are up on the deal.

Nuwan, So true man! Once one of my freind owned a Nissan Pulsar. When I was in a hunt for a car, I noticed that Pulsar's market value was much lower than the FB14 even though they came out in the same era. For me pulsar looked much nicer & cleaner compared to the FB14. When I asked from second hand car dealers, they stated that Pulsar gives some engine trouble. But my friend who owned the pulsar said he never faced such a problem. All this happens because of the creepy car dealers. Why should we bother to listen to them & fill there wallets? My advice is just buy a car which is in good condition, take care of it well & do the regular services on time so that when you want to sell it, you'll be able to sign a deal in a couple of minutes.
  17. No hard feelings, but this is a conversation I had with one of my customers couple of months back. Cust: Crishan, I bought a new car for my son. But unfortunatley he wants to go and settle down in USA. Me: Your son is a lucky dude sir. Any way what's the car you bought him? Cust: I bought him a ALIEN. Me: Cust: Alien, Alien. Me. "Let's go to the car park and check it out sir." In a couple of seconds we were in the car park. Cust: That red colour car. That's the one. Me: Sir it's the Allion. Profile of the customer : He is a owner of a Indigenous Medicine store (Not a doctor) & has lot of money. I felt sorry for him. Any way I'm not trying to attack or condemn Allion owners. Just wanted to put a smile on your faces!
  18. When I inquired from customs they stated that if someone has open a LC before 24/04/20011, the new tax nor the new manufacture year rule won't come into play.
  19. Devinda, Does that mean they telecast old Fith Gear programmes in Discovery Turbo?
  20. Dude, So sad to here this. I heard some people got the chance to open Back dated LC's in some banks on the 25th & 26th of April. Deffineatly policy makers will increase the Tax agian! In a TV interview (last year December I guess) the CB Governor stated that public should not panic & order vehicles immediatley, but to take time & leisurely select a car & to bring it down since they have no intension of increasing the tax again. They tell one thing and do the right opposite of it as usual!
  21. Hey Sumith, I'm not a pro in cars but will give a small opinion. If you can, get a relaible & a knowlegebale person to be with the car so that you can leave it at the garage while the work is done on the car. Recently when I met with an accident (with a EG8 ricer) I met the garage person and listed down the tiny things to be done other than the major repair.(13,000 got approved on the spot only 8000 cost me for the repair so with the balance did couple of other mods to the car you know ) While the car was in the garage for nearly 2 days, I sent a retired driver to the garge to be with the car.(He is a neighbour & personnaly known to me since my small days). So I got the job done without any hassle. I assume you watch Dicovery Turbo in your cable TV. It telecasts lot of programmes related to car restorations. Specially vintage cars. All the best bro!
  22. Dude, When I was at home I used to have a SLT Broadband connection. The speed met my requirments. But after getting married & having to stay at my wifes place, I thought of getting a Dialog Mobile Broadband connection. Initially I chose the 4GB package for Rs 990/= Recently they increased the speed upto 5GB. I have never gone over my monthly Quota. Speed is also very good. Also if you have a laptop, better you go for a Mobile broadband cos you can take it any where you want. Forgot to include, this is just my opinion. I have nothing to do with Dialog other than just being one of there regular customer.
  23. Any way it's good if someone can spare a bit of time to do a calculation to see whether it's financialy good to choose a Hybrid vehicle. If we can save Rs 300,000 in fuel after 5 years, leave another 200,000 for the new battery, then we save 100,000 at the end of 5 years. This is just an assumption. Come on Pro's! Let's calculate & see how much an average driver can save by using a Hybrid vehicle.
