  1. Dear Udayasl Thanks for sharing information on your bad experience. This will save a number of people in the future from incidents like this. Since you are a knowledgeable person, you could check the catalog and find the correct part number. But unfortunately, most of the people in SL (even mechanics working in garages) will not be capable of doing this. I have never purchased anything from this company. But I have heard that, if we want to buy an OEM shock, this is the place. However, the actual story is different. Thank you once again, for saving other people including us.
  2. Thanks for the reply. The problem is, an extra effort needed for avoiding those rubbers, plastics, glasses etc.
  3. Dear Friends So far, I have used only Wash & Wax which are easy to use. Therefore, I don't have idea, how to use paste wax and spray wax. When I use paste wax or spray wax, SHOULD I AVOID windscreen, glasses, rubber beadings, un-painted plastic parts etc? Thank you in advance.
  4. Better not to play games your brakes. Get it replaced immediately.
  5. 1) What about D**h car wash and B*i*ol car wash? 2) What about S*R Wash & Wax?
  6. My friend, not to dishearten you, but I think 18.4 is impossible. If you are driving only on express way, it may be. But on normal roads, definitely this figure is wrong. Earlier I had a 2007 Passo and 2018 Vitz. Both were having same Daihatsu 1KR-FE engine. (Old Passo had 4 speed auto gear box and new Vitz had CVT). Average of Vitz was 10.8km/L. The maximum efficiency I got was 17. But it was for a trip from Colombo to Anuradhapura, early in the morning (without any traffic) and with very economical driving (without any hard acceleration etc.). At heavy traffic in Colombo city, it drops even down to 6km/L. As I remember, 2007 Passo had little bit higher efficiency compared to 2018 Vitz. (little bit, not much). Mainly because Vitz is little bit heavier than Passo. I have posted a topic called " This is How to Calculate Fuel Efficiency" on this forum. Perhaps it may be useful for you.
  7. Congratulations Friend. Its very smart looking. How was the price and is this manual or auto?
  8. Thanks for your comment. I think, another method is, we can fill up to the lid. Anyway, it has to be ensured that the car is on a flat, horizontal surface. Sometimes I have heard some people are saying, "that Vitz is doing 15-16 in Colombo and 20 in out stations". Also heard something like "My Alto / Mira is doing 18 in city and 24 in long trips". Most of this kind of words are due to not knowing how to calculate the fuel deficiency correctly. Otherwise, they are telling lies.
  9. Dear Friends This is not a question, but an answer to a question which was not asked. There is another big thread on this forum on "Fuel Efficiency" where large number of members had posted comments on fuel efficiency of their cars. But looking at some comments, we can clearly identify that, some of the members do not know how to calculate the fuel efficiency correctly. That is why I thought of posting this. 1) Get your car full tanked. Take down the current mileage; say M1. 2) Drive the car until fuel level becomes somewhat low. At least below the quarter of the full level. 3) Re-fuel again to full tank and take down mileage M2 and amount of fuel pumped V2. 4) Now, it is clear that, to move the car from M1 to M2, it has consumed V2 amount of fuel. Therefore, the fuel efficiency = (M2 - M1) / V2 There may be some fellows who are not familiar with this algebraic formula. For the ease of them, I will try to explain using a numerical example. 1) Get your car full tanked. Take down the current mileage. Suppose it is 76,369km 2) Drive the car until fuel level becomes somewhat low. At least below the quarter of the full level. 3) Re-fuel again to full tank and take down mileage and amount of fuel pumped. In this time, suppose the mileage is 76,801km and amount of fuel pumped is 45L. 4) Then the distance the vehicle traveled using 45L is 76,801km - 76,369km = 432km. Therefore, the fuel efficiency is 432km ÷ 45L = 9.6km/L. This method gives you the average fuel efficiency between these two fillings. But if you need a further accurate figure, you can extend it to multiple number of fillings rather than two. For example if you had five fillings then the formula will be (M5-M1) / (V5+V4+V3+V2) Please note that the amount of fuel pumped at first filling (V1) is NOT used in the calculation.
  10. NEVER SELL or BUY for open papers. I know an incident, a guy sold his van on 2004 for open papers. After 15 years, in 2019 he got a letter from Colombo Municipal to pay a huge fine for that van (for not paying parking fees). Still, the van was under his name.
  11. Dear Kush What is the additive you used? Is it a something like octane booster?
  12. Dear Friends I have few points to get clarified on dash cams. 1) In case of dash cam with Li battery, is there a real threat of explosion due to heat? Has any of you noticed or heard such incidents in Sri Lanka? 2) I have a 70mai A500 Pro Plus. Its picture quality is good. But some times at the end of a journey, it has recorded large number of very short video clips (like 1 second) instead of set Video length (1 minute or 3 minutes). Do you have any idea on this? Thanks in advance.
  13. Do you have any idea how many days will it take?
  14. Dear Friends I have a Peugeot 3008 purchased from Local Agent, Car Mart. It has Idle Stop / Start function. I used to disable it every time. (It is enabled by default). What is your recommendation, whether to keep it On of Off. 1. In Heavy traffics 2. In Light traffics Thanks in advance.
  15. This may be the 6th registered owner. Actual number of owners may be even higher. Better not to buy it.
  16. That is marvellous. Being in another profession, but gaining such a deep knowledge on cars. If you are not an automobile engineer, your hobby must be in auto field. Infact, when I was new to this forum, I guessed you are Mr.L#l Al#wat#a or somebody like him. But later I understood that you are not him. Anyway, we are lucky to get advices from people like you. @Auto Lanka team, I'm sorry for talking little bit on a different subject.
  17. Dear iRage Thank you very much for your explanation. I have read many of your replies written to Auto Lanka forum. All of them are very clearly expressed. In addition to the knowledge gained by your replies, what I have understood is, you are one of the most senior automobile engineers in the island (although I don't know your actual name). Another big thanks to Auto Lanka team for providing this forum and all the resource persons who share there knowledge by replying our questions.
  18. Dear iRage We know that rear suspension of Camry is double wishbone and that of premio is cheapest and simplest torsion beam. So, how can premio be so much comfortable?
  19. Dear Experts We know that "rear drum brakes" has to be adjusted time to time where as "front disc brakes" are not required. What about "rear disc brakes" (in case, vehicles with all four disc brakes)?

    Octane Booster

Hi Friends Now, in SL, there are so many turbo charged Euro cars, which essentially need Octane 95. I have heard that, if Octane 95 was not available on the way, we could use 92, together with an "Octane Booster". (Not to be used always, But only for the occasions that we couldn't find 95). Is this True? If so, what are the recommended octane boosters which are available in SL market?
  21. Recently my 3008 met with a small touch. Handed over to Car Mart Ratmalana workshop. They did the job within one week including getting approval from insurance company. I'm satisfied with their service. Staff is friendly.
  22. Dear Mr.Hyaenidae Thanks for reminding me and inviting me to write the story of my ride. Yes, I'll do it. But I'm a slow writer. Therefore please give me few days.
  23. Dear friends. Thank you very much for your valuable comments and advices.
  24. Of course, I have a steep inclination to climb just after I left home. That is the main reason I started this practice. Any way, waiting one minute is not a problem for me provided running engine at idle speed is safe instead of increasing the temperature bit faster by driving slowly.
  25. Dear Friends I have a Peugeot 3008 (from Car Mart). Normally when we cold start a car its engine RPM will be little bit high (around 1,100RPM) for about one minute. My practice is, I keep the car idle until it becomes normal idle speed(750~800RPM), without driving. Is this practice good or bad or useless? Thanks in advance.
