  1. Budgets do be tight! These fellows rebuild shocks? o.0
  2. Thanks iRage, I am unaware what shocks it has, will have a "garage day" tomorrow to see who the real culprit. Doubt it is aftermarket (owner was old man/cheapskate), might be worn out suspensions.
  3. The topic says it all. Recently bought a Starlet EP91, it seems to be running 14" Alloys with some sort of Chinese Company Rubber in all four corners. Tire Pressure at 30. Rides like absolute sh*t. I feel EVERYTHING!, going at 40 over those (round things where you have access to sewers?) on the road makes me wince don't get me started on unassuming potholes. The road down Union Place (past Mistubishi Showroom towards Access Towers) is a nightmare as there are these slight wobbliness to the carpet. Friend suggested that suspension might be super tight (non-existent body roll as well in tight corners at about 60 so could be the issue as well). Dad told me to shut up as I'm expecting wayy too much from an entry level-hatchback built 22 years ago. I'm afraid that the vibrations will break something tbh. Is this the case with all Starlets? Should I go check whether my suspension is tight? and if so how and where? Please help MC
  4. FRET NOT! The 400Z is coming!
  5. Yep! 1$ Extra and you get a crate with a crapton of goodies including a better ECU, those tiny drag race wheels and more! They're rumored to be making a 1000hp+ crate motor called the Hellephant as well (they already unveiled it once at SEMA I think) Everyone making electrics or crossover SUVs and these fellows just upping the antic!
  6. Oh wow, that definitely looks botched. Hope you find a better place to redo the upholstery! MC
  7. Hellcat is actually not over 100k and is similarly priced (still doesn't go offroad though ?). I love how these guys just put the Hellcat Motor in almost everything! Jeep Cherokee? Yes. Durango? Yes. Chargers/Challengers? Yes. Rams? Yes. While this may be the miles ahead of the Raptor in many departments the Americans have massive brand loyalty when it comes to pickups and the Raptor might've had a dose of that since it is after all a souped up F150
  8. Good Luck on buying your first car! I recently bought my first car as well ('98 Starlet) and I'd suggest you to call up a parts store and ask for the prices of parts (Ball joints, Timing Belts/Chains, Engine Mounts etc) and then ask the same parts for a JDM Car and compare prices. I would've said Toyota Lanka but the prices there are super bloated and they wont give you the price of a part without giving them the car number (which since you'll be asking before you buy a car, you won't be able to do) Sri Lankans tend to propagate a lot of myths regarding JDM cars and some Sri Lankans act like the car gods themselves have touched these cars in production. If you want to seek cars that would generally be avoided by the cheapskate Sri Lankans I'd suggest the Camry (they'll run forever) and the Grande Mark 2. I looked at these as they hover around the 2.5 Million mark, reason being 2L engines but decided a hatchback is easier to manage inside Colombo. Note: If looking at the Grande Mark 2 look out for the Beams Engine, they generally have a repair around the 100k kms mark where you need to change the piston rings or something afair. But those cars are definitely the pinnacle of the JDM sedans! Look at this beaut
  9. Upon thinking about this I think you're spot on, those wheels did come on those!
  10. I'm sitting here wondering when 7-8 is bad ? I have a 1.3 Starlet that weighs about 900 kilos and that only does 10-11 in city as well. Regardless if its a newly bought car I'd suggest checking out your sparks and filters but I doubt you'll be able to do more than 10-11 imo. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about Pulsar's and this engine specifically can give you more solid advice. Either way congrats on your purchase! MC
  11. Is that a Daihatsu Charade?
  12. Can someone tell me what fluids of the car should be changed when I'm generally using it and at what intervals please? Bit of a noob when it comes to car care?

eg: oil change at XXXX kms?

@iRage Interesting insight! Never really thought of it in that perspective.

I expected the Sri Lankan market to be a "Just buy and drive" kind of a thing because I've seen this phrase on multiple ads (exception being project cars but you'd probably have another car to daily at that point)

I wouldn't have expected them to absorb the cost either but they could've marked up the price a bit to cover costs, either way it was a client owned car and maybe an owner just selling the car without fixing a major issue like that gave me a perception as to what kind of an owner it might've been as well. I've looked at other cars while hunting for one and the owner reception has always been "Reduce the price from any problems you can spot in the car" or "If you can spot a problem I'll fix it and give".

Yes...Sri Lankans want a buy and drive type of car...but that doesn't mean it has to be in running condition (or atleast they want to know of the issues in the car). If they cared about what they were buying....they would not be blindly buying accident repaired cars and those with obvious issues even when a blind person sees it.

They want a cheap ride...as long as it is cheap they will buy any POS...if it comes with nice phrases like "buy and drive", doctor/engineer/lady owned, etc...even better.

@iRage Very true, a friend of mine warned me against buying my current car with 13 past owners because apparently it would be hard to sell.

But the other cars I looked at either had rust (sometimes even panel rust was very apparent), had outlandish ODOs (less than 130K kms for a 20-25 year old car?!?) or when typed in the Vin on ToyotaDIY showed up with different factory paint codes to the car it is in and different specs (factory dual air bag model now only has one 0.o) or wasn't taken care of as much. I looked specifically at high mileage cars because a Starlet Instrument Cluster parts goes for less than 5k at times with the whole dashboards only costing around 16k. All these shady cars I looked at did come with the phrases "doctor owned", "lady driven" and "just buy and drive" ?

  13. Thanks AVANTE for the response. I've been searching the webs for the manuals but only came across a catalog for the Euro-spec cars (I think) and a Japanese Glanza catalog. I shall continue my search further ? Definitely looking to take good care of her, already have plans to restore the broken dashboard clock and always on Seatbelt sign. Mechanically she is fine and makes me feel like I'm driving a Go-Kart as opposed to a land yacht with tons of body roll. MC
  14. Hi Guys! Looking for a Starlet/Glanza EP91 Manual or in the least if there's even a catalog to some degree. I understand that it was a Japan only car but even a Japanese Manual or catalog is super hard to come by. If someone could source one out and direct me towards it I'll be eternally grateful. I don't want it to look up a repair or anything I just want to know the complete ins-and-outs of my first car. Thanks MC
  15. I couldn't help but giggle uncontrollably when the 'setup' turned on and music started blaring. 9/10 for attempt though, got to respect that attitude. Happy I went for an EP91 as opposed to a 121 XD
  16. Beautiful car and build! I'd say keep the red but I'm a sucker for red interiors so don't take my word for it!
  17. Recently bought an EP91 and have no expertise on aircon so take this with a grain of salt. If it cuts off at 10 centigrade sounds like it cuts off at the level the ECON is supposed to cut off. While I didn't have this problem in a car my airconditioner once cut off because the blower wasnt working properly therefore it cooled the AC unit at a far cooler temperature than the cabin, which made it cut off after a while. Regardless hope you fixed it MC
