  1. Hi Guys, My Hyundai alternator was not charging the battery and I took it straight to Pala (never used them but read good reviews here). I asked them to check the alternator and give me a quote. I managed to go into their workshop area and was observing it being dismantled. Then before the tests were carried out, I was asked to wait at the customer area. 15 min later, the owner came up and told me that everything is busted except for the coil. He asked me if the alternator got wet cos some parts are burnt etc etc. He said the repair would cost Rps.25,000. I told him I have never washed my engine during the 6 years of ownership. I have only steamed cleaned the bay once maybe couple of years ago. I told them I will let them know what to do and keep the alternator with them. I went back to office and was trying to sink in the cost. What options I had etc. But I felt something fishy since they asked me to leave before carrying out the tests. I called them up to not repair the alternator and collected it today. I inspected the parts (diodes, regulator etc) to see if there were any physical burn marks but I couldn't find to the naked eye. Anyway, now I just want to take the alternator to another reputed place (around Colombo, Dehiwela, Ratmalana area) for a second opinion. Please recommend any workshop. Thanks !

    Repair Warped Steel Wheel

Went to Macro. Decent service. Apparently it wasn't the wheel but the lug nuts. The lug nuts from the aftermarket alloy wheels were not properly securing the OEM spare wheel. Required shorter tapered nuts.
  3. Today I used my 16x4 spare steel wheel for the first time since getting the car and found out it is warped. I am the first owner of this reconditioned car and the wheel looks brand new. I don't know how this can happen . Anyway, any place recommended for repairs ? I searched and got one place called "Macro". Thanks in advance.

    Kobe Shock Absorbers

So how much did you pay tax ?
  5. I bought this ELM327 WiFi and it works well with my Nexus and iPhone (needs to be jail broken). Free scanning apps are available on Google Play and App Store. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vehicle-ELM327-Wi-Fi-OBD2-OBDII-WiFi-Car-Diagnostic-Interface-Scanner-iPhone-/290946457765?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bdc2a0a5&tstore=1&tfrom=30637516
  6. sexy seats !
  7. It was a stressed slow cranking. However, there are no issues since yesterday. Fingers crossed. The car was not run for only one week !
  8. I have a scanner.... no codes found. But I will floor the throttle down as Rumesh88 has advised. Maybe it will generate something.
  9. Thanks. After the car cooled down after a hour it was all good (possibility of fuel pump and filter issues are less here ne). Maybe the symptoms will start once the engine is warmed up again. I am reading on the net, could be possible faulty crank shaft position sensor.
  10. Hi All, I have a Hyundai Tucson 2L petrol automatic. The car was not run for the past 1 week. Started running again since yesterday. It ran fine. Pumped fuel last night at Laughs. Today morning it started and ran well driving to work. Stopped at a joint to grab some breakfast. Afterwards it was difficult to crank it up again. Approached the office and the car stalled near the security check point. Again cranked it up with difficulty. Parked the car and put her on neutral. I could not rev beyond 3000 rpm. The car cooled down for about a hour and I went again to crank it up. It started well. It revved normally up to 6000 rpm (didn't go beyond that). There is no CEL light. Some advice please. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hey Tech Mate..... any update on your problem ?
  12. I am using Shell Ultra fully synthetic for almost 7 years now. I change oil between 7,500 and 10,000. Its a daily runner. No issues. My mechanic advised me to change the oil filter twice for every oil change. Example: 1st filter during oil change. 2nd filter around 4,000 to 5,000 (no oil change). The cycle repeats. Tech Mate: On the knocking issue, please keep us updated on your progress. Many thanks !
  13. You have a point. So maybe its not the engine block but the transmission ?
  14. Im facing the same issue on my Hyundai. Unable to figure it out as yet. Please update this thread if you manage to fix yours. Did you check your fuel pressure ?
  15. A quiet restoration :-). Looks very nice. Give her a lot of TLC.

    Soft 4Wd

I was wondering why the latest KIA and Hyundai SUV's were not being recommended. They are spacious, not bad the fuel efficiency and is reliable.
  17. I post here at the risk of being since this thread is very hot these days. MasterDon, your practical tips (according to your restoration experience) on painting a car deserves a thread of its own which will really benefit all of us. I for one has painted my 27 year old Nissan twice (within 14 years) and never got it right for a full satisfaction. I have seen on Overhaulin' that they never prime a car before applying metal filler. It was always, sand blasting first, tinkering and then filler. Maybe their filler is high quality and does not require a primer coat. Peace to all :-)
  18. Looks really nice. Well done sir.

    Kia Parts In Kandy

Take the sample (used pad) and go to the spare parts shops. There are Japanese brands that make pads for Korean models. Unless you want the genuine KIA, you may need to call the agents and find out from where to buy in Kandy.
  20. I just need the pump only. Not the entire in-tank assembly. Hope there are specialised shops. Thanks in advance !

    Contact Lenses

It doesn't stick like a stamp :-). There is a very little resistance to remove than if it was wet. There is no pain or uncomfort at all.

    Contact Lenses

Soft lenses are very fragile. There are a few ways it may get damaged. 1. While you are cleaning them. Be gentle, do not allow your finger nails to contact them. 2. While you are removing them. Here also be careful with your finger nails. 3. Also note that you should not try to remove them from your eyes when your eyes are dry. The lens can tear since it tries to stick to the cornea (when dry) and you need more force to remove. # 3 has happened to me a few times when I was a beginner. Here is what I do. Just before removal, wash my face (with eyes closed of course) and before wiping with the towel, I remove the lenses. This way a little water trapped in my eye lashes will go into the eyes and wet the area for easy removal. Has worked for me for many many years :-)
  23. Hi Hatharasinghe, What was the brand of the Japanese pump you brought? was it a direct fit? price? shop?
  24. Thanks for updating us.
