For me it is another fancy gadget to adorn your dashboard. If you decide to buy it make sure it is compatible with the OBD port of your vehicle (and also that it displays kmpl and not mpg). This interface works on the basis that the fuel consumption is directly proportional to the vehicle speed (as sensed by VSS sensor) and inversely proportional to the MAF reading (air flow rate in grams per second) assuming that the engine maintains an ideal air/fuel ratio of 14.7. For those mathematically savvy, Fuel Consumption= k * (VSS/MAF) where k is a constant. Hence your VSS and MAF should be in prime working condition for u to get an accurate absolute reading.

You need to refer this question to the manufacturer of Ecometer and get their opinion. There are differences in OBDii protocol depending on the market. Ecometer may support cars in US market by default but not necessarily those in other markets.

Even the ones from the factory are said to be 'optimistic' (at least that's what I have heard about Jeep). It is unlikely that there's a one-size-fits-all gizmo which will do it accurately for any and all cars.

on a side note, it's funny how they picked a Challenger of all things as a demo for a fuel economy product
