Number Plate Issue

I bought a car through a private bank. It was registered to sabaragamuwa(SG xx-xxxx) and it’s there in the car book. After transferring the vehicle to the bank it has been registered to Colombo address and shows as WP xx-xxxx on the book which I was given by the bank. But the number plate displays as SG. What should I do? Do I have to change the number plate? If yes how can I do that?

if it was financed through the bank, the bank has already charged you nearly 4000 buks as the transfering fee+ cost of the new number plates..so your new number plates will be ready with WP plates in two weeks at RMV. go and collect it..

If they have re registered it on WP definitely they should have plates, you don't have to do any thing if you want to keep it as WP, ask them for the Plates if not check with RMV, whether they have collected new plates, i am not much familiar with this process, can any one else confirm this

If the ownership change requires a change in provinces (e.g. SG to WP) then RMV will charge for the cost of new plates when doing the registration transfer.

Bank wouldn't have been able to get the ownership change done without it.

So it's just a case of waiting for the plates to get ready like evergreen said.

Bank is having the absolute ownership or mortgage right over the vehicle. But you are the registered owner. So you have to get it from RMV and Bank won't do it for you...Thats the way..
