  1. Neat, might have to try that sometime on my waggs... Of course, cluster visibility has improved significantly since I cleaned the whole cluster properly today
  2. Our CE106V has 278,000 on the clock now, hardly a contender for the highest mileage but thought I'd mention it here. I think most Toyotas can endure a lot of punishment if they're looked after properly. I see CE106s and their petrol powered equivalents with 400,000+kms put out on auction! I'm sure they get sold as well because their final value is significantly lower.
  3. Nice photo, Blitz! Did they mention the brand of the wheels?
  4. We had a brand new N16 (with 86kms on the clock) in 2000 and we did the usual holiday trips to N Eliya etc in it. Once we had a tough time negotiating the hills en route to N Eliya as there was a fault with the 'sensor' (according to my father) but that's the only instance we had a problem with our N16. This was the basic trim (no power shutters etc) and was a Manual Transmission.
  5. So...I managed to take apart the dashboard trim and remove the plexiglass cluster cover for a cleanup of the speedometer and gauges. I also managed to give the plexiglass a buff with brasso as well. The results were excellent! The speedometer and gauges had accumulated dirt and the Quartz clock hands were almost black with grime. I also noted that this cluster has a uniquely shaped corner that isn't present on the AE86 cluster, even though they have the same dimensions. Oh well, there goes my cluster swapping idea! Await photos of my operation.
  6. Gorgeous car, Mr VW!
  7. Have you seen the Nissan Stagea wagons with BNR34 fronts? It's like a skyline wagon! They've even got the new R35 front adopted to a Stagea as well.
  8. Might have to keep their numbers for future reference! Here's the 510 in question- It's a four door too!
  9. I've been to that site too. Did you see the entry about the 510 SSS that's rusting away in some yard? Very sad but it's too far gone for salvaging...
  10. Ah, but it works!
  11. Decent work on the badge, but the old flaked black bits can be seen. What you should do (if you're not satisfied with the current results, of course!) is to submerge this in brake fluid for some time. This will strip all the paint off from the badge and will leave a clean 'canvas' for you to paint. Then brush the various bits in their respective colours. Finally a spray can of lacquer clear will seal the new coat of paint and give it a nice shiny lustre! Second Lane is near the Commercial Bank Dehiwala Branch. If you're heading from Mount Lavinia, it's right after the HFC and Commercial Bank Dehiwala. Let me know if you're headed this way.
  12. Anyone notice the Muppets inside the VTECs?
  13. I can always recommend my mechanic; he's been maintaining both our Corollas for the past 12 years. If you like, drop in and meet him. He's located in Second Lane, Dehiwala.
  14. iRage, Is Y35,000 for brand new or used sets?
  15. The Japanese 'Minilite' style is called RS Watanabes. Very popular on AE86s because of Initial D. Negative offset Watanabes- Tons of fakes out there though. These are WORK Equip01s. I see a red Toyota IST that has these, but don't know if it's the real deal. What a 510 would look like-
  16. I searched for sold listings and found that just the tachometer sold for about $200! There was a NOS tachometer with the red needle that sold for a whopping $320! Don't worry, Komi, I'll get you your tach from Japan!
  17. WOW! Nice.
  18. I'm waiting for the painted result. Sumiya, what colour have you decided on?
  19. Nice job, Sumiya! I hope you used a metal primer on the grille before painting or else it's prone to chipping. Happened to me on my wheel caps!
  20. Nothing like that...yet, Komi! I did find OEM rear lamp assemblies, NOS rear lamp lenses, an authentic SSS wood steering wheel and gear knob and other parts though. This is what I found earlier (well, in "used" condition anyway)- owner says it's from a '68 SSS. I think what you're looking for is this-
  21. I'm on it. I have since discovered that the link I sent you earlier was for the SSS but I think it's compatible. In that case, would you still consider one?
  22. Wow, clean Jeep!
  23. Sure. I've sent you one but it's a different style to what you currently have. Either way, if it's compatible, grab it! Here's what a 510 "coupe" should look like- Note the angle of the C pillar. What Komi has is a two-door sedan. All this was learnt by reading the articles on the previous page!
  24. Nice, SachinWick!
  25. I'll keep my eyes open for 510 stuff on my Japanese auction trolling, Komi. EDIT: how about this- http://www.dragtimes.com/parts/datsun-510-speedometer-and-tachometer-cluster-stock-bluebird-1600-late-69-to-73_230838670082.html $255+$30 though
