  1. I thought of writing up of the types of abandoned classic wrecks that we see in Sri Lanka spotted by me when I was living there either by the roadside or inside a compound, this post might spark off some interest with all the classic car lovers in SL Ford Prefect E93 An abandoned car inside a garage in Castle street ,Col 8,the shell looked good the last time i passed that way in 2007 Fiat 1100 3 Fiat 1100's were parked and left to the elements at the top of Anderson road where it meets up with Pepiliyana Road sometime back and 2 of those cars seem to be in easily restorable, hear that the owner was working for Colonial motors long time back Triumph Herlads Triumph Heralds there were 2 good cars which were ruined by the same owner in a landside lane near St Marys Church in Dehiwela just a few years back one was a 3 sRI coupe model in red color and the other was a Herald 1200CC 5 SRi model (perhaps the only one in Sri Lanka) both were in running conditon and and then left to neglect and rot as I heard the owner a business man was near bankruptcy! such shame about the car and once when I went near his house I also saw a another rotting dark blue Herald inside! Jovette Javelin Parked insied a house in Dharmapala Mw (Turret Road) Col3 been there for ages and not used as far as i can remember Dickmans Road Many old classics inside a house near Elibank road and never used and talk is that the owner does not want to sell them off and he does not run them either,I remember seeing a Healy Sprite and an MG among others while he was persuaded to part with a Packard Limo to a well known garage owner in COl 5 I hope other members too will add to this thread about the classic wrecks that they see

    Price Check

I meant the Sunbeam Talbot with a soft top which came in CN series during the 'infamous' or 'famous' CFA I went on a trip to Jaffna and saw a very immaculate CN series Sunbeam Talbot (soft top) in superb condition, got to know that it was being used by an expatriate there who had brought by road from colombo for his day to day use!!! also any idea about the price of an E93 Ford Prefect (CN -EN series) As for Triumph Heralds there were 2 good cars which were ruined by the same owner in a landside lane near St Marys Church in Dehiwela just a few years back one was a 3 sRI coupe model in red color and the other was a Herald 1200CC 5 SRi model (perhaps the only one in Sri Lanka) both were in running conditon and and then left to neglect and rot as I heard the owner a business man was near bankruptcy! such shame about the car and once when I went near his house I also saw a another rotting dark blue Herald inside! btw GTAm you seem quite familiar with all these old gems,do you own any?

    Price Check

You mean a Triumph Herald is around 1 million???? In 1990 there were a few in Dehiwela for about Rs 25-30 thousand then in 1999 I saw one in very good shape for rs 40 000 (4 sri) it was in original condition

well the Austin 7 is a classic car alright but the owner is just silly to ask for that price I too like classic cars but not into buying one now anyway but out of curiosity do you guys know the market value of the following cars Morris 8 (1940's era) Triumph Herald (1960-1970) Triumph Spitfire Austin Healey Sprite Austin A40 Sunbeam Talbot
  5. yeah tubelight model cars are damm good why dont you post the pics if you dont mind of both ur mitsubishis (fiore n tubelight)
  6. I own a Mitsubishi Carisma 1997 model (1600 cc,5FWD) We have a Lancer tublight (1245cc,Orion engine,4fwd)) model back home in SL, been with us for 9 years and still in very good nick!
  7. Man your tube light Lancer is awesome,we have the same model in our family for nearly 10 years and still going strong (12 sri) went all over the country including the north when the ceasefire was on,very hardy and reliable too btw,how much are you planning to sell your Lancer for ? how much are they worth now? Our one has the A/C working well after so many years too
  8. most probably its due to the float malfucntioning, why not clean up the tank and that way you can see the condition of the float too
  9. I'm based in the UK presently as I came to study and now will work for an year or two here under the post study workers scheme, the local garages will rip you off left right and centre,2 months back I took the car for its annual MOT and they said I had to change the front brake disks and they charged me £ 306! MOT = £ 56 parts £ 90 rest was for labour!!!! If you have the AL members contact (guy who has a garage) pls let me know
  10. I drive a 97 model Mitsubish Carisma GLXi (5fwd,1.6cc)and its a great car but lately has developed a problem with the reverse gear selection The reverse gear is engaged by pulling the rubber ring which is under the gear knob and then push the gear stick towards the left and push it forward parallel to the 1st gear, but now it does not fall into reverse and keep going to the 1st gear and its only after 3-4 attempts that I can get it right and its a big pain,I assume that the rubber/nylon bush to help select the gear is wasted but im not sure and the garages here are damm expensive (currently im in the UK) and charge about £ 35 per hour and I dont want to get ripped off Anyone knows what the problem is? and how to get it sorted out form my description,I hope its nothing serious, this model (Mitsubishi Carisma) is almost identical to the Lancer CKi & CKii you get in SL. If any Auto Lanka members are in the UK and know good reliable garages where they dont rip you off please let me know
  11. We have a 1978 Lancer (tube light model) and its in top condition with a working AC however the previous owner/s has hacked the carburettor trying to modify it and now it does just 6-7kmpl in colombo with the AC Where can we buy a agood 2nd hand carburettor fo this car it has a 1245 CC Orion engine I also need to buy the badge in the bonnet (not the 3 diamonds but the old one with a blue back ground)

    Mirage Colt

Machan some years back LP gunaratne in Darley road had new door handles for the old lancers (tube lite) and i bought them brand new which was cheaper than 2nd hand at panchikawatte!
  14. what you travelled on the A9 in a Mini? man that road was in an awful state when i last drove in 2004,full of potholes!,have you ever travelled all the way to jaffna in your Mini? heard that there were a few Minis running in war torn jaffna too but i didnt see any in 2004

    Mirage Colt

Ah you have the same Lancer model (called the tube light model in Sri Lanka) Padduka is a bit far off but if the issue is not fixed up soon i might contact you when I come to SL next to get the carb fixed, any idea if I can get a good 2nd hand carb n the price for one? also whats the current market price for the Lancer that you have man?
  16. Cool car machang dont spoil it with too many modifications.
  17. rman2000

    Mirage Colt

Machan if u dont mind can you tell me a good mechanic who can fix the tuning issue, its a maroonish red tube light model lancer maybe you have seen it running in colombo i once took it to a reputed mechanic and he said that the carb has been tampered with so much by incompetent fellows who had the car before hence needs a replacement carb ,also i should mention that the engine is fully overhauled and good suspension too so there is no reason for such bad fuel consumption, its a Orion engine 1250 CC,whats the color of your car ?
  18. rman2000

    Mirage Colt

Hi Machan We have a Lancer 1979 model and had the same alternator belt or the fan belt wearing out fast issue,it was due to a problem in the alternator you need to get it checked out mate. btw how much does ur care do on petrol?? ours does 7.5 kms/l in Galle road traffic with the A/C on if you odnt mind me asking how much did you pay for your car, these are becoming rarer now in colombo
  19. Hi Mate You seem to be having a Lancer GLX or Colt 1300 or 1500 at one time i was crazy over that car but left the country before i could get a decent one what are the + points in this model and the - points? how much fuel does it do?? how about spares? any idea of the marker price ?? who knows when im back in a year i might still fancy one of those
  20. The situ here in Colombo is not good its more like a Latin American country, yes its very dogdy and shady that they stopped you like that, but you were wise not to floor the accelerator man,coz if they were armed they could have taken pot shots at u! if anyhting like that happens then best thing is to not challenge them coorporate and then go to the closest cop shop
  21. The Morris Minors and Austin Cambridges are still very active in the NE part of Sri Lanka and in topping condition too Then we had the VW Beetle which was a seller at one time (1970' and early 1980's) then came the legendary Lancers (Flat light saloon,Station Wagon,Tubelight model,The Box model etc),these are still sought after in Sri Lanka im away from SL now so im a bit outta touch with prices, does anyone know the current demand for a Lancer Box or the Lancer Tubelight model car now?
  22. Hi I need to know where I can get my international drivers licence in Colombo and howmuch it costs? are there any practical sessions needed?? do i need to surrender my old licence?? for how long is the licence valid??? is it renewable after expiration??? thanks in advance rman
  23. Also in Nissan HB12 there is the full light model and i hear one version of the morris oxford (YOM 1950's)was called the 'batticoloa model' coz that was very popular there
  24. There is also the Lancer eye light model Lancer flat L light model Lancer tube light model all the above were based on the tail light shape of the cars produced between 1973 -1979 then we have the Lancer Box Lancer box red beeding model Lancer box fog lamp shell model (fog lamps in grill) there is also the less known Lancer Benz light model (tail lights were similar to the benz) i think the Rukamani Devi model van is the old Mitsubishi Delica (2 round lights in front) and not the Toyota Hiace, pls clarrify if im wrong folk btw,do other countries have such nick names for cars??? any ideas?
