  1. My GP5 did over 20kmpl on highway @ 100kmph in cruse control CE100 Sprinter manual with similar 2C engine did 16-18 kmpl on outstation on long trips (no highways at the time), Caldina auto with 2C did 14-16kmpl on similar conditions.
  2. I think used Viva Elite are ridiculously expensive and most of them are molested by people who know nothing about maintaining a vehicle. Demio on the other hand were bought by people who wanted some thing better and fun than the Vitz and are likely to be maintained better. Demio is better in every aspect
  3. Problem in SL is that the buses and Lorries have no safety measures at all, all regulations are towards cars. It is about time the government ban importation of them which lacks basic crumple zones. Safety is not only for the occupant but for other uses as well. So the morons who drive like maniacs in their Tata/ Pajero/ Prado should also think that there are poor souls in Wagon R or a biker / cyclist. Audi or a Volvo not only protect the occupants but occupants in the other vehicle as well. But I have to agree on the SUV as that it the only way not to get run over by a truck or a bus.
  4. Fit GP5 will be the best choice finding a good one for less than Rs. 3.0 Mn. would be a issue. DCT will not be an issue if driven in highway, but the wear already taken place with the current owner may have an effect. You could also look at the GP1/ Honda City/Toyota Yaris
  5. Importers understate the CIF by opening the LC for a lower value and remitting the balance through other unofficial modes. To counter this customs will have their own valuation based on the car model and they will not go by the amount in your LC
  6. Provided you have time and resources to maintain the car, it will definitely will give trouble when you are clocking that kind of milage
  7. Kia Picanto Kia Rio (if you can find a good one) Suzuki Swift Mazda Demio
  8. If you want this kind of economy look at less than Rs. 3.0 Mn. only option i could think of would be Kei cars like a Stingray or a N Wagon with cruise control. If most of the running is on highway this should be reasonably safe as the likelihood of a head on with a bus or lorry will be rare. You will need to be careful as the car handling will have limitations at high speeds. Other option would be Kia Picanto, no cruise control though, has transferable 5 year 100,000km warrenty
  9. Issue with the permit is you will be the importer and the CIF will be decided by customs based on the market price in Japan. Your LC CIF is more than the valuation it will be based on the LC CIF. Best is to get the customs valuation of the vehicle and compute the tax. As CHR is a common vehicle any clearing agent will be able clarify this. JPY 2.7 Mn. on the CHR will include Tax in Japan, exporter charges etc. which are not taken for customs valuation. They generally go by the based price of the basic car which is also very much cheaper (this was how it was calculated previously, I may be wrong here). Plus you might get depreciation on the age of the vehicle.
  10. Adaptive cruise control works fine on highway. LKA will struggle with you when you are not on highway due to narrow lanes (roads), even in highway it keeps too close to the fence for comfort so it is bit of a pain. Auto brake is another pain it will some times brake in intersections the moment a 3 wheeler is seen. You will not be able creep in intersections with is necessary evil when driving in SL. Safety / convenience features useful in SL context would be ABS/ as may airbags as possible (including curtain), traction control, cruise control, parking sensors, 360 cameras, good horn.
  11. http://www.customs.gov.lk/public/files/tariff/Luxary Tax on Motor Vehicle Effective From 01-11-2019.pdf
  12. In Sri Lankan market anything from Japan is deemed superior even if they are made in the same factory side by side. There will be difference in the ride and handling due to suspension set up JDM will be more softer where as the Aussie will be set up for more harsher roads, may be little bit more ground clearance too. If there is no significant difference in the price you are better off with the JDM
  13. One is smaller stylish, other large and more utilitarian. Don't expect Montero reliability or resale value.
  14. Well if you use your own permit and import you will get the total advantage of Rs. 3.6 Mn. If you buy a permit say for Rs. 2.2 Mn. you will save Rs. 1.4 Mn. in tax otherwise you would have paid by utilizing someone else permit. If you have a permit better to utilize it to maximize the benefit, if you sell the permit the buyer will get benefit of Rs. 1.4 Mn. In the case of the Raize duty is only Rs. 2.0 Mn. if you use the permit you will forgo Rs. 1.6 Mn. you could have used on a better car for instance on a CHR
  15. You will need to add around JPY 250K for documentation, insurance, shipping, commission of the exporter. Price for base car additional features like audio, carpets, reverse camera etc will increase the price
  16. So many adverts for the Raize in quick site, thought of having a look at one in the weekend during by usual errands. By the way Kia Stonic caught my eye in today paper seems like a sensible alternative with more power, 5 year agent warranty and approximately Rs. 1.0 Mn less.
  17. yes, don't get carried away by the digital screen, it is very low resolution and basic compared to what you get in new Mercs, Peugeot, Audi I would have preferred the usual gauges with info display in the middle which by the way gives reasonable amount of information.
  18. It seems like Carmart has screwed up spelling of your name, typical of them. Get them to rectify it is not your fault. Most likely if the initials and other details are right should not be a problem as customs are not run by idiots. Only issue i see is the name that will appear in the custom documents which will be used in the registration. Hopefully it will be as the local LC get a clarification. Suggest you get a clarification from Carmart. If i were you will also send them a letter under registered cover for future reference just in case as sometimes they pretend as if they do not know anything. Telling this through experience Mitsubishi 2007, Mercedes 2018
  19. I have the Hatch it is in a different league to the Axio, Saloon should be similar. Hatch rides on 18 inch wheels and ride height and is fun to drive (not the usual Toyota ride / handling) saloon should not be far away in this area as well. Manual should be fun as only gripe in my car is the rubbery CVT
  20. If you are concern about them get a Vitz
  21. My BIL brother has a Mazda 3 (brand new import) 2007, up to date no major issues. 7-8 kmpl in city, 10-12 kmpl out of city if you can live with that, it will be closest to your EK3 for your budget.
  22. I would have chosen the Mazda over the Corolla Sport without a blink if not for the duty structure. Paying nearly over Rs. 2.0 Mn. above the permit where as for the Toyota it was only Rs. 265K saving of nearly Rs. 1.75 Mn. Yes managed to find one in auction in last May, got a good deal as there was restrictions in opening LCs for the permit and the car was below the radar of Sri Lankan buyers at the auction. Mine is blackish blue with TRD body kit and part red leather interior as ample road presence at the moment due to rarity i suppose. Engine is more willing and smoother over the Civic 3 port 1.0L although has less power.
  23. No body cares what is underneath as long as they have the fog lights, alloy wheels, body kit and all important winker mirrors.
  24. This will be manual, if you want auto will have to settle for the hatch
