  1. Guys I got the idea from another forum but this is a very interesting topic. To list 3 of your favourite cars from each decade. If you do not know cars from certain decades, just leave it blank or do not list those. Here is mine: 1930s Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Bugatti Type 35 1940s Can't think of any 1950s Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Maserati 3500 GT 1960s Alfa Romeo Giula GTA Ferrari 250 GT SWB Lamborghini Miura 1970s Ferrari 308 GTB Porsche 911 Turbo (930) Lamborghini Countache 1980s Lancia Delta Integrale Ferrari F40 BMW M3 (E30) 1990s Porsche 911 (993) Ferrari F355 Mazda MX 5 Miata 2000s Ferrari 430 Scuderia Alfa 8C Competezione Maserati Quattroporte GT S
  2. Pick of Supra's list - Jump - Van Halen
  3. Very true Devinda and I totally agree about the fart cannons I couldn't have put it better! Yup the twin spark sounds good but the Alfa 3.0V6 is even better. Best I've heard though are the F355 V8 and the Delta Integrale turbo 4. Bloody awesome! Interesting post Supra N Like Devida I do like to listen to the mechanical cacophony under the cam head and a rasping exhaust. Best of all is the popping and crackling of unburnt fuel in an old car like my twin webered Giula How I miss her But I do like a regular dose of big bass pumping especially on a long night drive. Not sure I can fill an album with songs at the top of my head but here list... not conclusive but here it is none the less. 1. Blue Savannah - Erasure (90's Brit synthesizer duo) 2. Totally addicted to Bass - (can't remebre the artist it was a cool single out in 97 I think) 3. Electric Dreams - Giogio Maroder and Phil Oakey from Human League (Giogio is the one who financed the V16 Cizeta Super car) 4. Regatta De Blanc - The Police 5. You are the Girl - The Cars 6. Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson 7. Supersonic - Oasis 8. Slave to Love - Roxy Music (Fellow Alfa driver Brian Ferry ) 9. Private Dancer - Tina Turner 10. Song 2 - Blur 11. Revolution - Beatles 12. Everybody Have fun tonight - Wang Chung (80's band) 13. Voices inside my head - The Police 14. Addicted to love - Robert Palmer 15. Let Down - Radiohead Some of the albums I enjoy when driving are stuff like Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers and Primal Scream. My 3 favourite next morning wind down songs after a hangover recovery, driving back home slow on a cool Sunday Morning after plenty of water - 1. Everyday is like Sunday - Morrissey 2. Viva forever - Spice Girls (Emabarrassing but true ) 3. Velvet Morning - The Verve
  4. True. But I doubt Europe will go into recession considering their rude health compared with the US.
  5. Such a modern and expensive car might have had a built in hands hands free as well!

  7. Sure, can do as this guy says he would like to meet up with me before the show. Will keep you posted!
  8. Actually they're not too great on the economic front as well. Yesterday Meryll Lynch announced that the US economy is officially in recession. In today's Daily mirror there's a story that the much smaller country/economy UK's per capita income has just overtaken the US'!
  9. Thanks.
  10. Quite right Ripper. I agree!
  11. Yes nor have I driven one. If it does let the driver partake a lot then that is certain great to know that they have managed to preserve that important aspect. I arrived at this conclusion after driving a Lancer Evo 6 for a few months. After a while it the thrill of the blistering pace seemed to wear me down a bit. It stopped making me grin after a while like say a Mini does. I was wondering if it is all that clever electronics. I guess it's hard to describe...but say you come into a corner at a crazy speed and what the car is telling you is that is nothing. You are not sure if you can take that corner at that speed. But here it's only you (the driver) who has a doubt for the car will actually take it using all the electronic aides to keep it on the road. And so its the car that's a hero. Of course you feel like one since you took the corner anyway. If you also watch the super car event at say Katu you notice how the cars correct themselves in the corners when almost all the drivers come crashing into the corners. Where as say if all the cars were without electronics it would be only the most skilled driver who would be quickest all other things being equal. But I guess this is the price of progress. I wonder what will happen if all the electronics are switched off or removed!? The question I'm pondering is I guess "How dependent is the car on electronic aides in comparison to its mechanical hardware?"
  12. Hi Guys, Thought I'll share this with you..... Here is a highly talented Sri Lankan Artist Amila who has done well in the UK and has won prestgeous recognition. The good news is that he will be having an exhibition in March 2008 at the Lionel Wednt starting on the 7th. Do check out his impressive web site below and some of his even more impressive drawings. www.amilaworld.com
  13. Hmmm even more confusion there with Spec GC and Rev. A B and C etc. Anyway I think you're right, C must stand for Competition as Subaru makes 1000 of them for Group N Homologation purposes. http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_...spec-c-2006.htm
  14. Not to mention what if the Emir decides to suspend work visas of all Sri Lankans working in the UAE? Our economy will be sunk. Not that it's already not happening . An unlikely move on them but a poor pathetic nation like us need as many friends in high up places as we can possibly get.
  15. Anyone know what he or she crashed into?
  16. While I have a deep respect for the clinical ability of the GTR I don't find myself dying to own one. One, there are the looks. Very fuctional and mean looking but it could have been a bit more of a desirable shape like these two Mazdas for example especially that gorgeous Furai. Second, I don't actually want a car packed with an overload of electronic devices that are way cleverer than the driver. I somehow prefer a car that require a good dose of driver skill to get the best out of it. The best thing would be if the car helps the driver to hone his skill. And lets face it there's nothing like a bit of sideways fun and catching a slide instead of an ultra intelligent 4wd system controlled by hundreds of microships that will correct any silly move the driver makes. Anyone agrees?
  17. Pardon my ignorance but I've always wanted to know what "Spec C" stands for.... Is there Spec A and B as well? Or is C for Competition?

    Engine Wanted

Hi Pradfred your project sounds very exciting to me, as someday I have promised myself to make my own car too ! Are you designing a tubular frame chasis? And what kind of suspension will you incorporate? What about the styling? Two door coupe surely? Front or mid engined? If you're looking for a V8 I'd say a Mercedes V8 (from the old S class) would not be hard to find considering that many have been diesel converted. But it's not very revvy as would suit a sports car.
  19. Yes Mazda have always had decent design capability but now they are getting even better. Just look at this awesome Furai concept car! Gorgeous eh?

    Toyota A-bat

The overall proportions are odd to me - that sketch looks so much better. Anyway it's adventurous for a Toyota. I hope they don't water down the productin version as is usual.
  21. I think Tata is the best buyer considering the other two bidders were Equity partners and Mahendra. Mahendra was backed by Renault so they would not have been very bad. But Tata is the best considering they are backed by Fiat who had to pull out of the bidding as it would have affected their share's recent high ratings. Also Tata has proved it can do well with foreign brands/companys. It owns Tetley Tea and more recently bought over Corus (formerly British Steel). Alfa Romeo have already indicated that it will use the Jag XF platform for their upcoming flagship 169 sedan. Alfa has also shown interest in using the LR dealer network in the US for their relaunch in 2010. So it's a good fit for a Fiat/Tata/LR-Jaguar alliance.
  22. Having used both the March and Starlet on a regular basis, I can say that the March is a lot better to drive. The ride comfort and handling was better than the Starlet. The March engine sounded a lot better when revved up too. The March was a 1.3 Auto and the Starlet was a 2 door manual. The Starlet was slightly better on fuel but then again it was a manual.
  23. Whoa so much? Turbo?
