No it's not the cam variator it's something else and sounds a bit serious. Cam variator noise is only on start and low revs, lasts only a minute. Listen Don. Since you seem v interested; I have a buyers guide at home from Auto Italia Mag or the Alfa Romeo Driver mag. I'll look for it and scan it and post it for you. Or else give me your email addy and I mail it to you. That covers almost everything.

The link does not respond. Cam variator issue is very common on all the belt driven twin spark engines. As you start you will get a diesel like rattle from the engine and it dissappears after a few seconds. According to Indika there's no harm whatsoever in running the engine with this defect. It only sounds bad. The replacement part is said to not wear off but the one I got from Singapore did wear off after a year. Could have been an old stock. The Sing guys are such crooks. What you really need to verify is when the cam belt was replaced. In UK the recomended mileage for change is 30k Miles. It has to be done by a specialist and the adjusters need replacing with the belt. Or else the chances are it will snap and ............

Shocking to see that even Japanese manufacturers that are ranked so highly in reliablity surveys have problems like this. Maybe owners of Alfas with the problematic selespeed boxes will feel a bit better reading this thread .

Is that confirmed? Where did you hear that from Don? It does not look like anything from PF. The Trend was a design drawn and developed by PF though. This one looks like a Renault/Dacia Logan to me.

The front end looks awful for me. The overall design is too fussy and will date fast IMO. The original had cleaner lines and that's why it look great even today! Looks like Chris Bangles' ghost is still haunting BMW design studios !

I saw it on the road a couple of days ago. I thought it was an MX5 underneath!? So why should the RMV have a problem with that? Anyway there should be a way that kit cars are registered. If I remember right the Westfield Megabusa was put together here and registered.

I have no experience but I have heard from more than one source that they are very expensive. So you better check with a few people before you commit. I wonder if there are any VW specialists like BMW and Alfa do.

Well the Jag is a E segment car so it's more a 5 series and E class rival. I understand that the X type will not be replaced.....any news on this?

There are strong rumours that this is the new 159 GTA which in V8 form will be a competitor in this class. No ones sure when it will be launched or more importantly which engine it will use. Thanks. I'm trying to find the exact code. It's a rare colour for Alfas. Used only on post war 6C racers. I've asked one of my friends who's in touch with the Alfa Romeo Museum to send out a mail and check. Let's see what he comes up with. Btw next week she'll be going into the paint shop !

Yes the car chases have always been great! And yep that.....was it like a 60 second drive in Casino Royale(?) was absurd.

Absolutely! The bike events were great and covered well. Yes the commenteries were hilarious ! But in the end the cars were quite boring for me. Was there any overtaking at all? (I watched only about 75% I think) And I'm really fed up with seeing the same cars over and over again Especially the Lasers, sorry but they're are a bit of a yawn .

The 'new' news is that the V spec is being tested on the 'ring right now. 150kgs lighter and a 70bhp more power. The 'ring time is said to be 7.07mins!!!!!!! Shocking!!!!!

Anyway there were so many areas that was messed up by the previous restorer/owner....whoever. Next week it will go into the paint shop. I'm trying to figure out which red. I'm thinking about this red from the post war 6C Barchetta racers. I want the white circles on the doors and the serpent and cross on the bonnet in white too. What do you think? The Alfetta is static as the guy who was to assemble it let me down (the story of our lives in SL). Now it's with another garage. I foresee both cars getting completed almost together.

I don't like the look of the 3 and the C let alone the ISF. I saw an RS4 Avant in Singapore and it looked absolutely mean. And in many tests it beat the M3 as well. I'll take mine in blue, but it's out of production !

Bertone - Famous Italian Design House is now bankrupt after its Illustrious founder Nuccio Bertone died some years ago. This is really sad news for the Italian car industry and especially for fans like me . Not only did Bertone give the world some stunning shapes but many of the greatest designers started their career there. The best examples are Marcello Gandhini and Giogetto Guigiaro. Alpart from the stunning super cars like the Lambo Miura, Countache and the Lancia Stratos there are cars in SL too that are familiar to us. Examples are the Citroen Xantia and the "Upali" Mazda. Poor management by the his widow and daughter has seen the company head groundwards fast. Yet as a parting shot some of it's designers struggled and put out a stunning and controversial show car just after the Geneva show. I was quite surprised to see a pump with the label "90 Octane - Premium" in the shed in Nuwara Eliya town. When I inquired they said that it contained some additive. This was the first time I've ever seen this? A liter was priced at 129/-! I was wondering if it was actually legal for the guy to do that!?
