Errr dude, what I meant was dressing up a Proton in Lancer livery, in my opinion, is a downgrade, assuming the inspira is lotus tuned. Just my personal preference of course

Now u guys are beginning to offend me I have a high regard for the Lancer EX but Protons (especially the Lotus-tuned ones) are just superb to say the least. So it is rather offensive to see someone dressing up a Proton in Lancer livery.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but haven't the asking prices from sellers of Corolla 141 dropped from around 4.2-4.3 about one year ago, to 3.5 million these days? I suspect these cars might be changing hands at the vicinity of 3.3 million. That doesn't sound like good 'resale value'...

OT, but speaking of resale values, I owned a Corolla 110 in the past (for a short period) and also a Fiat Grande Punto (purchased second hand) Now what do people say about resale values of these cars? 110 is money in your hand and Fiats are impossible to sell... What happened to me was when I sold the Fiat, I made a tidy little profit of just 125000 and I didn't spend any money to maintain it during my ownership, except for the usual service. On the otherhand, selling the Corolla set me back by 100000! I don't know what to blame, the brain or the heart???
  9. waitaminit... did u say u went to an audio shop to get your seats checked? do u have a set of spanners? before going anywhere, may i suggest tightening all the bolts yourself?
  10. is your camry tuned by crisco nihal by any chance?
  11. Doesn't matter as long as all the documents are intact. If its a late registration, there may be a fine and/or palm grease.
  12. Assume that X is the importer and Y is the buyer. X can register the vehicle under Ys name or Y can get all documents from X and get it registered under Y's name. IN both these cases, Y will be the first owner. You need the following documents (excerpt from motortraffic.gov.lk). You probably won't need the documents which I have striked out. MTA – 2 Application Form Two 2.0 x 2.5 inch photographs of the owner of the vehicle (The Grama Niladhari of the relevant area or the vehicle importer should certify on the reverse of the photograph) A photocopy of the national identity card, driving license or the valid passport of the owner of the vehicle. Custom entry (custom 53) Originals of receipts for customs duty payments (Assessment notice) In case of a brand new vehicle, the relevant invoice. In case of a reconditioned vehicle, foreign registration certificate (with the English translation) If the vehicle has been imported with an import permit, the relevant permit. For registration of absolute ownership, the relevant MTA-3. In case of registration with a mortgage, a copy of the mortgage deed. In case of a vehicle obtained at auction held by the customs, three armed forces or courts, the letter obtained from the relevant authorities and the receipt.. For vehicles that were shipped subsequent to 01.03.2007 and coming under H.S. codes 8702, 8703, 8704 and 8705, pre-export examination certificate. For brand new vehicles, prototype of the relevant vehicle model or the relevant weight measuring certificate. In case of registration under the name of a business, a photocopy of the registration certificate of that business. Motor vehicle examiner’s report for motor vehicles. 02 postcard size colour photographs depicting the front and the body of the relevant vehicle. (Chassis Number should be mentioned and the applicant should sign them.) In case of a motor bicycle, the packing list certified by a motor vehicle examiner. In case of an imported reconditioned motor cycle, in addition to the customs document, the engine and chassis numbers should be certified by a motor vehicle examiner. For a motor vehicle produced or assembled in this country, the letter by the Assistant Commissioner approving the chassis and engine number should be submitted. When imported on duty free concession, duty free permits.

@jd - true that. In countries like Sri Lanka, every hour is earth hour for most people... But the awareness about saving energy (not the way cheap-ass hybrid owners do) is important imho .

  13. First up dude, this forum is crazy about any restoration project, even if its an old toyota corolla. So please open a thread and post some pics of your project. As for parts, did u try ebay.co.uk? that might be the cheapest source.
  14. For me, an e-mail has worked pretty quickly. did u try [email protected]?
  15. u mean these Toyota boys who keep grovelling about fuel consumption don't mind spending for coolant with toyota brand name on it?
  16. If you mix red and green, you get purple. Purple looks nicer on your car.
  17. Quick question... is it a good idea to attempt a conversion of a Manual Petrol SantaFe to an Auto Diesel? Any idea how much would the whole exercise cost, if done properly?

wht hve heard is any kind of conversion is not good.

  18. Many vehicle manufacturers opt to get designs from third party companies (like Pininfarina, Giugiaro) for their vehicles, to keep their design costs low. And then, both design and manufacturing companies reuse designs to keep their costs low. So it's not a wonder that vehicles produced by different manufacturers during the same era look similar. Those who obtain third party designs include Chinese car manufacturers too. For example Hafei Lobo (what is known as Micro Trend) was a Pininfarina designed car. Chinese also go to an extra mile (so do Indians) and obtain used presses from other car manufacturers, usually after the production of a model is ceased. That's why we see vehicles like: Daihatsu Terios -> Zotye Nomad 2nd Gen Suzuki Alto -> Maruti 800 Toyota Kijang -> Toyota Qualis (India) -> ICML Rhino (India)

All the same, I wouldn't mind buying him a couple of toyota badges for his car. that should put many of us (and other folks who know the value of a bimmer) out of a lot of misery...

schiffer, did u find any signs of chassis damage?

    Ruined Bmw E28

Any restoration project can be done if you can flush out enough money and have enough time. Only exception would be if the chassis is damaged. Like Don mentioned earlier, it would become a deathtrap. If by 'financial feasibility', u mean making a profit or being able to sell it to cover the costs, then definitely it won't be.
  22. Just a wild guess but is it a Kia Cerato?
  23. I know of a bloke who went to UK, bought a Merc, shipped it here himself and collected it. All through a permit. He claims that doing it this way saved him a packet of cash, which he would have lost as agents fees and other expenses.
  24. yes you can. you can even get a friend overseas to purchase a car and ship it here. only limitations are age, value and engine capacity. Value will be based agents valuation.
