    Express-Way Updates

Does this mean you were driving at easily over 200km as well?

Don't take a van on the highway...as simple as that...the lack of front weight, the small tyres in relation to the body, the idiocy of many van drivers, etc. seems to cause stability issues.

The prize idiot behind the wheel should definitely be given some awards for taking a van on that road at over 100kmph (a speed I was not aware vans are capable of doing steadily in the wet) and totaling it a mere 12 hours after the highway opened. Btw, wat has happened to that crash barrier in the middle? The thing is like papadam...was under the impression they are made of tougher stuff... Let the games begin!

Don't get out of the car in the emergency lane, because apparently said lane is not wide enough to risk opening the door without it being knocked out on one side, and without it hitting the barrier on the other side. So basically, make sure you have no reason to get in to the emergency lane.

Shudder to think of what will happen when people start swerving at speed, or their worn out and under inflated tires burst at speed.
  7. Thank you for this information!!!
  8. I am curious how this works. Does it keep recording over itself every 20 mins? Otherwise, it would probably be too late to hit record...Also, does anyone know the legality of such a device and admission in court? Cos it seems like it would be very useful, and not just for dealing with cops.
  9. I think this one is lady driven, or have seen a lady driving it with who must be her daughter in the passenger seat.
  10. Anyone have any updates on this? I am looking for a few sachets for storing some humidity-sensitive electronic goods
  11. Nevermind the insurance, how the hell did this happen? And what happened to the driver?

    Paint Less Dent Repair

It is popular abroad, but only successful where no paint loss has occurred. Was surprised not to have seen it here earlier as it is lucrative business in the States
  13. I know of a guy who has a permit vehicle, brought down on someone else's permit. Vehicle is in his (current owner's) name. Black dash. How is this possible? Can he purchase the permit off that guy?
  14. Can it be done immediately or only after 3 years? Also, is that red dash under the D/P in the number plate indicating permit or is this no longer issued?
  15. I was under the impression you cannot transfer a permit vehicle for several years? Someone please clarify?
  16. Many govt officials use official iPads (there was a photo in the FT too some time back).
  17. Used to be quite common for people who advertised their cars on Yahoo, Craigslist etc, or those who clicked on "too good to be true" offers. I once had some fun with the guy, in the end revealing I knew what he was after (if you reply you will generally get someone responding). When I asked why he does it, he replied "well, what else can I do?"
  18. What good has the installation of CCTV cameras done? Accidents have not reduced, and traffic has got even worse (spurred on by stupid traffic plans and idiot cops directing against the traffic lights).
  19. Unless the car had no belts, why was your friend driving without seatbelts in the first place?

    Express-Way Updates

I don't think most highways in the world are lit up except at the entry and exit points. At least not in my driving experience. Seems to be the same in this case, just imagine the cost of lighting the whole 120km stretch. Only Belgium I think has fully lit highways (if I remember from an old Top Gear episode). The paint used on international standard highways is generally reflector paint that is very clear in the dark, so I am hoping they used the same sort here.
  21. 1003 total is 4, not 13
  22. Perhaps they cudnt find fitting helmets? While I can sympathise with people who have no other option but to put the whole family on the bike, I have more than once given a piece of my mind to guys who put their whole family on the bike and then swerve around like idiots, with their kids legs slamming into everything that's passing. Cos in the end, nobody's going to blame the guy even if he's at fault when something happens.
  23. And you are rolling your eyes because?
  24. Those symptoms don't mean there is something wrong with the eyes, it means they are functioning the way they are supposed to! Yes some people are more sensitive to sunlight than others, but for example eyes closing due to strong sunlight is very normal (try driving on a concrete US highway in bright sunlight). There is a solution for this, and it is called sunglasses... In any case, sunglasses are recommended for use from young days onwards as strong light is bad for the eyes and increases the risk of cataracts. Suggest she forgets this ayurvedic business and buys a good pair of polarized lenses
