Fully functional Mitsubishi Fuso steering wheel and controls on a Lanka Ashok Leyland. (And of course the driver's totally awkward seating position)

While that particular 510 is stunning, I totally am with you on this.

To add to The Don's list and since you say that the teeth of the belt got worn off, could it be a faulty sproket that has damaged/worn out teeth? A tool coming into contact with a sproket might have damaged it during the repair. Slim chance, but still a possible. Since the timing belt snapped the first time causing damage to the engine, the pullies in the timing belt assembly might be out of alignment causing excessive load on the belt at specific locations of pully rotation. I'm not exactly sure how this could be fixed apart from replacing the pullies and/or shafts. Just my 2 cents.

No, it should be your first option. Pouring some chemical which is not even recommended by the manufacturer shouldn't even be an option. Towing might be expensive, but the damage caused to the engine by temporary fixes will result in an even more severe expense. If you can't afford to tow, then just ask one of your friends to help you out. As Rumesh said, you've been running for a long time with the engine burning oil and an intermittent check engine light. You've seen all the warnings, but haven't really done anything about it and are worried when the car doesn't start anymore? Even worse, you're considering a temporary fix? I don't think you understand that the severity of the repair you could be looking at if you continue to go on patching things up without addressing the issue and applying the correct and one-time solution.

Go to a workshop where a diagnostic scan can be done. The actual error code that resulted in the check engine light to come on will still be stored in the ECU's history. The scanner will pick the error code up. You will then be able to address the actual issue.

Oops! Sorry about that. I must have had my wires crossed while typing that. Thanks for pointing that out Harshan!

Change in the width from 175 to 165 means the width of your tyre will decrease. This will result in: - Lower grip - Slightly lower (better) fuel consumption - The car losing a bit of it's looks. Wide wheels make a car look nice. Change in the profile (height of the sidewall) from 70 to 80. This will cause: - Your speed o meter to show a slightly higher km/h value than the correct value. (Ex. a speed of approx 100km/h will be shown when the actual speed is 96km/h) - Your engine to rev lower where it was a bit higher before at the same speed - Slightly reduced acceleration (negligible I guess) - The car to lose a bit of it's looks... again. Lower the profile the better. The new tyre size is just not right IMO. And remember... just because you got a set of free tyres doesn't mean you have to use them.

Guess you have picked up the correct thermostat. For others' info: The thermostat that was on trinity's car was a 75.5 Celcius one. This explains why his car was running cool (since the stat would open sooner than it's supposed to). A previous owner might have replaced the thermostat without actually checking for the specified temperature. The new one is 88C and is according to the specs. Once the new thermostat is installed, the engine should reach operating temperature soon. Let's wait and see.
-
100% agreed! We were actually talking about this yesterday.
-
That was 88c right? If so, you can absolutely use it. Can you tell me the part number of the thermostat you got?
-
Here you go trinity. I think you should be looking for a thermostat between 86.5 and 89.5 temp as per the manual. I checked with CS1ASNDR and there are two main thermostat part numbers which are compatible with your car. They are: MD170031 and MD337408. There are many substitute part numbers as well, but these two are main. What's the part number of the thermostat you got?
-
Brand new. Not OEM - you won't find genuines for this price. They are built to OEM specs and there is absolutely no difference in build quality or appearance. Edit: Guess trinity beat me to the answer
-
Well there you go Komi. Call him up and see.

Thanks machan! Wish we did this when you had your CS1. E L N I N O already has a spoiler if I'm not mistaken and he bought it from the same guy above. The seller told me that the EX and Evo X spoilers go for around 15,000.

Thanks! Wheels are definitely something I'm looking at, but not in a hurry as I got a brand new set of tires also installed after a suspension repair, and now my budget is shot. Photos were snapped in Athurugiriya. My neighbourhood. Thanks Sampath! A guy in Pitakotte. Imports bodykits and spoilers and stuff. 0776 204 776 (Hashen). Komi, I remember trinity telling me that the above number is no longer working. Wait for trinity's reply just to confirm.

Post #65 The Don. How did you miss that? Or did you mean photos of the DIY? Unfortunately, we didn't snap any pics of the DIY because the process was pretty much identical to what I did on my car. Anytime machan!

So trinity's spoiler finally arrived today and we had a DIY installation and a photo shoot of the ladies with the new jewellery. This is trinity's car after installing the spoiler. And the ladies: I'll leave trinity to give more details. Uploaded the photos cause I had 'em on my phone.

The procedure is exactly the same as headlight polishing according to my understanding and it's pretty straightforward. You can DIY at home. http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/9730-how-to-restore-your-headlights/

In short.. No. Again, please search the forum. There's so much info about the Lancer CS on the forum. For a potential buyer, looks like you are in total darkness when it comes to the model line up of the 2001 - 2004 Lancer. Time to do some research I guess. Enter the following text in Google if you still cant find what you are looking for: site:forum.autolanka.com Lancer GDI

That was very helpful, thanks! I watched "The Wolf of Wall Street" yesterday and it was pretty good. I'm not really into movies about stock fraud and legal issues and stuff, but this certainly was a good movie. Superb acing by DeCaprio as always. Nice re-creation of the 80s as well. Oh and don't judge the movie by the trailer because they've selected the only few seconds of the movie where there is no nudity, drugs or filth to create it. Expect a lot (and I mean a LOT) in the movie.

Welcome to the forum "limited". Although your question is somewhat unique, you will find a lot of pointers already shared on the forum, as to whether the car in question is a good buy or not. Follow the method below to search the forum: http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/15808-how-to-search-on-autolanka/

None of the reviews are about the CS3. They're all about the CS6 which has a 2.0L engine and none of them exist in Sri Lanka to my knowledge. The CS6 is popular in the US as the "Lancer OZ Rally" and in Australia as the "Lancer CG" which came as ES, LS and VR-X.

Happy Birthday mate. Have a good one! Schiffer is right, he has not signed in for exactly two months.
