  1. This is usual in the Toyota CVT box. Nothing unusual. Enjoy your ride, remember to change the oils at the correct interval. Specially CVT. If your previous owner has forgotten or does not has any records, better to change CVT now and start a record.
  2. This is typical behavior of this CVT box. Do not worry.
  3. Sharing my two cents here. The oil sludge in your engine has to be looked at carefully with professional advice. There are ways to clean, but an expert should evaluate before doing anything. Otherwise the situation will escalate. For the engine pinging, sharing something which I have gone through and corrected practically. There is a pre ignition knock (specially when applying load under slow speeds) observable. Usually a naka naka naka type of sound. And when you go up in speed and gears it goes away. This happens due to carbon deposits in piston crown and the some carbon particles becoming red hot. These red hot particles ignite the petrol vapor out of timing of the park plug. Result is pinging. There are many methods to get rid of this, and applies on how much of carbon you have. One of the easy way is to use a fuel system cleaner product, which is poured to the petrol tank. After treating with this for few times, some engines do come out of this. But you may use 95 Octane after that as lengthy use of RON 90 (where the engine is designed for RON 92 or above), any few other factors create this situation. Have some thought on this and you may find some practices done by few people around the globe regarding the same issue. I did not mention the specific product which I did use. If you need can mention as well.
  4. Yes, I had fun too, when I tell this Push Start freaks, that many Military Tanks, rough land vehicles, some steam rollers, locomotives has the same "feature" they brag for ages.........I can see jaw drops...........
  5. Boiled water has more mineral deposits. Concentration is higher. Always use distilled water.

    Chip In Tire

This damage is risky. Highway and fast driving is a big no no. Consider replacing two tyers and put the new ones in the back (best practice, new tyers in back as Under steer is easy to correct than your tail goes for a spin).
  7. That is not coal. I am also looking for coal for some time, did not find.
  8. Hi, does this sound come from the engine bay only. Because the same type of sound comes when the small Air Filter of the Fuel cap get clogged. Simple way to check is, to losen the Fuel cap a bit to make sure air is drawn through the opening. Let me know the details, have sorted this issue.
  9. Must be joking..........
  10. speechless....................
  11. Super article and real value. Thank you and appreciate your effort.............
  12. I saw a Benz Van in Singapore with 700,000 on it. Once our company had a Toyota HIACE with over 500,000 and had no major repair until then. A transmission problem developed later, but soon fixed. The machine was well maintained by the company with regular services from TOYOTA.
  13. Use kerosene or tar and bug remover. Please note that this will strip off your wax coating. Hence you must wax it back.
  14. It is not only for Allion, any car having a 1NZ-FE with VVTi or engines with dual VVTi all have chains and self adjusting tensioners. And the chain is lubricated by a jet of oil. Hmmm you can safely say the chain will be good for a long time, I never said till eternity.
  15. Allion 240 has 1NZ-FE VVTi engine. No T Belt, a timing chain which is lubricated always and self adjusted for long term slacking. No maintenance required Hope this helps.
  16. Yes agree........only good is fuel economy, Toyota reliability............but still it is so overpriced. The basic X series even does not carry a RPM meter. The Car mudalali has glorified the Corrollas as the final thing and pinnacle........ I have seen some people whom think a Corolla is the ultimate........ But I will never dispute the reliability, fuel economy, basic A to B practicality, easy maintenance etc.. In that sense it is a good car to have.......
  17. An Electro mechanically sound car............ But popular folklore is to do paint jobs, I cannot fathom their thinking pattern. I have seen buys only worried about the paint job and body condition, and does not give a damn shit about the engine or suspension.........
  18. Cannot comment, only thing I know is it is NOT Octane 93. IOC never mention in any document or publication it as RON93, but many think it is RON93.
  19. Few simple things for you............following I say with experience and will not get into any trouble. Has read the manual many times and also did use one for sometime. 1. Use Mineral oil, use Toyota so no blame at all 2. Change Oil at minimum 5K, if you can do 4.5K or 4K is better. Do not leave oil in the engine more than 4months, even if less than 4K, change it. 3. Use genuine Toyota filter, very cheap when you buy from Toyota. Now there are so many branches 4. Use 95 Octane, (I know few will differ, but that the engine is designed to use RON 91 or above) 5. Change ATF, Brake Oil, Steering Oil, at 40K intervals. Inspect coolant color and condition at this interval, usually I do change it. 6. Inspect Air Filter at least every 10K, clean it. Change at least one a year 7. If you park in sun and if you have leather seats it will start cracking. Use a good leather conditioner, at minimum once a month. Will last for a good time.
  20. Was in EW few times recently, every time I do enter I did ask for the speed limit. To my surprise they said it is 130kmph every time. I asked them is there any written document for it. They said in writing it is 100kmph, but for a car like what I drive they do have a tolerance till 130kmph. Then further surprised and ask what about others, they said if it is a small car like Maruti, the limit and tolerance is 110kmph. So all times I went around 120kmph and in some instances 130kmph. Second update, while I was doing 125kmph, an Alto over took myself and later vanished into horizon. For sure he did 140+ kmph. For me that is idiotic and unlawful. I am pretty sure the handling and the braking of that thing will be a mess at that speed. By the way it carried four people.
  21. Agree.........and never forget that this issue was a result of many local, regional and global issues. It was NOT only a Tamil, Sinhalese issue, few things to point out are, even cold war, Russia and India did not like the Pro US government at that time in SL, both US and Red forces wanted to control the Indian Ocean, A Tamil issue was uprising in Tamilnadu, Indira Gandhi wanted to shift the eye of the storm out of India. Rich mineral resources of the North and east. Petty political agendas of our own political parties, cast issues and internal rifts with in the Tamil society...........the list goes on............. And many innocent Tamils were brain washed and sent as cannon fodder, same happened to our Army in some instances at some periods of the war.......... Ultimately, Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim........this is our country........and the losers were all of us for 30 years
  22. I do appreciate your thoughts.......... Personally I tell true stories in a Story Telling fashion regarding our war and the heroes towards the young ones and to my own friends. I have many first hand experiences of real great true stories. If possible will help someone write a book or a blog. We cannot let the sacrifices eroded by time, the true heroes were in all factions, 3 forces, police, CDF, clergy, civilians and politicians. Non should be forgotten.
  23. Lakshman Kadirgamar, Ray Wijewardene, Upali Wijewardene and even Dr. Kulasinghe...........and list continue...many are there heard and unheard
  24. Did not know about it, thanks and damn interesting.
