  1. Solar power is well known for its unreliability being a renewable energy source. Availability of charging station completely depends on the number of annual sunshine days and the connected load. If Tesla has planned to operate it on 365 day basis then it must be a grid tie system where the power deficit is fed by the local distribution network. Cali must be speaking without knowing the true facts
  2. I.m not an expert of Marxism, but I interpret it as follows Historic Event : 1910 1st introduction of EVs --> Failed First Repeat: Late Ninetees, ---> Tragedy Second Repeat: 2012, Tesla, Califonikan & Elon Musk ---> Farce
  3. So it took almost 100 years for EV industry to come back after the initial blow. Hope next return will be in a lesser cycle period (At least with in Cali's life time)
  4. Market will never fall. From my birth so far I have seen that the cost of every thing is going up. even if there is a slight dip the trend is always for upward. Economists will agree with me.
  5. The extend of safety you are concerned is not necessary for regular automobiles. It might required for special purpose vehicles such as those operate in explosive atmospheres, Ships, Submarines or perhaps in space shuttles. As "Watchman" pointed out Automobile Engineers must have evaluate that risk in the design phase it self and omitted it considering the near Zero Probability of occurrence of such a fault. The Best thing you can do is to; maintain your fuse box with the specified ratings without going for shortcuts such as replacing them with copper wires; and do what ever repairing through a good auto-electrician.
  6. There is a safer and more harmless way for those who do not want to kill them. Install an ultrasonic Mouse repeller. It can repel all sort of harmful animals in a harmless way (Rats, Rodents, Bats and similar types). You can purchase it through E-Bay.
  7. Petroleum Product Transport road tankers carry dry chemical powder type fire extinguishers. I think it is the more suitable one for other vehicles also.

    Atf

Atf, Go to the agents and get a scan done by them. ask for the report too. get their opinion. With this details you will be able to understand the problem on better grounds
  9. Sri Lanka is a negative carbon country. Our GHG emission is very low compared to US, EU, Japan or any other industrial country. There fore at the moment it is not the right time for our economy to take a 90 degree turn and go for low/Zero emission systems/vehicles. It is not required to give much weight to promote these high end, high cost technologies but the need is there to promote methods and systems that common mass can have affordable and efficient means of transport.
  10. My conclusion is incorrect on the issue, Thank you people for pointing out
  11. Density of Petrol is about 15% less than that of Diesel. Therefore it will not mix and petrol will float on top of diesel. No significant advantage.can be gained.
  12. It is a real life example of the mindset of typical Sri Lankan Viva Elite Owner. It is no surprise, they even run on empty tank to see how far they can go with the warning light on.
  13. I was informed that the reason for recent diesel substandard issue is mixing it with bio diesel by the alleged supplier. Thus it formed a hot bed for fungus production in the storage tanks.
  14. Hasheeb, Clean both the gear oil sump and filter. (if necessary replace the filter) then refill with new oil up to the level. If this will not solve the issue it can be a major problem in the gear box.
  15. Banuka, I had a similar issue and went for L.P. Gunarathna. Thing is you have to stay behind their technicians to get it done in the best way. E.g. the rear shutter of my FB 15 was very slow and noisy to operate. The technician checked the mechanism and told me it is needed to replace the total unit. The fault was in the holding mechanism of commutator slip rings of the motor, which costs a fraction of the complete unit. So I told them to fix it as it is if they cannot repair it and I'll get the job done from else where. Then the tech gave it a try and did the repair. Finally I got the repair done at around Rs. 800/= other wise which would be something around Rs. 15,000/= So you should know what's going on when you are at a place which is completely alien to you; otherwise they will rip you off. it is better to get it done through the garage guy you are familiar with, or else ask these people to first do a trouble shoot with details if you are competent enough to understand.

    Express-Way Updates

I have a question regarding the CKE about the way they are filling the land. I have seen that most of the sections of the CKE is built on land filled with sea sand. as per what I know; the sand has more air pockets than soil itself. So will the road get deformed/cracked faster with easily displacing sand layer when the heavy vehicles travel on it? can any body shed a light on this?
  17. LancerL, Petrol is a mixture of mainly Octane (C8H18) and few other elements. Complete combustion of Octane produces Carbon Dioxide and water. The chemical reaction formula is 2C8H18 + 25O2 --> 16CO2 + 18H2O If the combustion is incomplete the reaction produces Carbon Monoxide (CO) and other alkaline. If you get water from your cars' exhaust it means a complete combustion and system works fine.
  18. IOC diesel is not safe either Except for the eastern region; for all the other parts in the country; diesel is distributed trough the storage facility at CPSTL kolonnawa. Both LIOC and CPC share the common reserve at CPSTL. so you cannot rely on them. P.S. you cannot trust Indians; they are master thieves. once they learn the trick they'll do it better than our guys.
  19. as jdnet pointed out gaskets, radiator cap or the radiator are not the only places a leak could occur. there fore better to show it to stafford or any good radiator guy to check the leak before jumping into conclusions.
  20. Their is a simple observation to check whether there is a gasket leak. 01. Open the radiator cap (make sure that it is not heated up to a level to burn your fingers and the engine is not overheated. Use a piece of cloth to open the cap as a precaution) 02. Start the engine. 03. Fill the radiator up to the overflow drain level with water/coolant 04. Watch whether you can see little air bubbles coming out of the radiator. 05. If air bubbles are observable then it is an indication that the gasket is damaged. You will need to replace the gasket and paste the engine head depending on the damage caused. Generally gasket damages occur due to overheating of the engine. This may happen due to 01. Leaking radiator 02. Malfunctioning cooling fan 03. Evaporation of coolant from damaged radiator cap 04. You not checking the coolant level at sufficient intervals and not refilling it The repair cost will depend accordingly
  21. Both are reputed family sedans in SL. If you consider fuel economy only go for AE 110 which is good in fuel than FB 15. If you want a newer car to show off and do not use it daily basis ( so the fuel bill will be comparatively low) go for FB15.
  22. Fossil fuel era is reaching its end. Within our life time it will end. At the current consumption rates oil reserves will end up in another 52 years. There fore electricity is one of the alternative which is going to replace it. Electricity has been used for mass transportation for decades (Eg. Electric trains). Definitely electric cars will also play a major role in future transportation industry.
  23. can you update the progress?
  24. Sri Lanka NERED Centre has already done a successful Bio diesel conversion project from waste cooking oil. They even have a Van running on Bio diesel at NERD Center in Ekala. A brief detail is available at http://www.nerdc.lk/en/sub_pgs/1_dept_6_renew.html. NERD Center implements a technology know how transfer system for entrepreneurs. You may contact them and get the details.
  25. My personal experience is maintenance cost of Indian bikes shoot up like a rocket after first 30,000 km, Yo will need to replace parts every month. Aging is faster. The body starts rusting quickly compared to Japs. Unless you are planning to resale it with in 02 or 03 years using an Indian bike will be a headache
