  1. You can grab a good fd1 or fd4 within your budget. For me the interior of the civic seems nicer, and finding parts can be a bit easier.I have never used one.But I also had the same question nearly an year ago.
  2. What is the ceramic coat for paint? Is it worth to do it for a dark colored car? or is it another useless product?Because road from my house to the main street has 'iluk' bushes on both sides one friend of mine told me that they leave scratch marks on the paint.

ok since I foolishly posted an FB vid link above my reply got blocked out so i'm typing this again :

it's basically like a persistent wax layer that will hang around for some time. Will offer you basic protection from sun, bird poop , tree sap, paint dots (in case your neighbor decided to paint his wall )  and stuff like that for scratches not a lot of protection but to a small extent yes. also it's water-repellent  Those darned bushes - they've already left their marks on my car within days of buying it    cars and trees are really not friends are they?

and here's the youtube vid of the same FB vid

there are many places  offering differing types of protection - drop me a  PM

  3. If you prefer a sporty japan made ride, I would highly recommend both Lancer EX and Civic FD1 OR FD4. You can find a good Civic in your price range, as most of them are not abused and tampered as the Corollas,Axios,Allions and Premios
  4. Welcome to the AL forum Sreen! Please be specific about your requirements since there are many types and models are available around that price range. Cheers
  5. Welcome to the forum Mithz07 Haven’t heard or seen one yet. I checked on Google and wiki. Seems to be made in India. Therefore don’t have high hopes in the build quality section. Anyway Hyundai and KIA are not as good as the japs when it comes to build quality. But seems to be having lots of bells & whistles. Best thing is to visit the showroom and do a test drive. Cheers p.s- I checked the Hyundai SL site and it shows that the Creta is equipped with dual clutch transmission, which is similar to the one in Vezel. Those dual clutches tend to wear out much faster than single clutch ones, typically around 80,000-100,000km mark in the Vezel. Anyway the Vezel is made for japan, a country with cold weather and the SL heat is a major issue for this excessive wear. Since the Hyundai is imported by the agents, the system might be specifically designed for Sri Lanka.
  6. Earlier when I bought the car I had no idea about road noise and comfort.Generally I thought to avoid CE#T or Chinese tyres. The car had GT Classiros on it.So I changed two with GT Champiro. There was not much of a difference as a remember but,I replaced the front with Falken Sincera(Thai made) few years ago and there was a considerable reduction in road noise. Now I have Falkens in the back and when I wanted to change the front with the falkens, there was no stocks in kegalle,so replaced with Kumho and it seems to me as the worst set of tire I’ve ever used.Road noise is extremely high. When I travel around 30kmph noise level is high as it was doing 60 with the previous set.Horrible.I would never recomment Kumho to anyone ever!!!
  7. @iRage I found a place in panchi and they quoted 1800 for one silver plastic handle.the steering wheel is available in ebay for around $32 but not sure about the qualiti.therefore I plan to do a search in panchi later. p.s-i checked with the karbon club and they seem pretty decent.Maybe I can fix all the door handles and steering wheel from them. Thanks mate
  8. First of all Wish You Guys a Very Happy New Year!!! So by the end of this month I plan to bring the Allion home.I’m going to advertise my 121 tomorrow. The relation agreed to give a good interior cleaning and fix the fabric upholstery for me.There are 4 types of parts that shows signs of usage and I plan to replace them before I bring her home.I have uploaded the pictures according to the order. 1.Silver coloured plastic interior handles-all four handles have few usage signs and I want the interior to be super clean.I plan to replace all four of them. 2.The silver plastic inserting of the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel buttons have faded.I plan to replace them also 3.The all four white scuff plates(highlighted in red)of the doors shows scratch marks.I want to replace all four too. 4.The front cupholder’s teak panel has some minor scratches. This is not a major issue. But I plan to replace it later.I don’t have a picture of it.The whole cup holder plus the teak textured lid comes as a single part in the parts catalogue quoting around 12,000jpy.Where can I find it cheaper? These are the only problems that exist in the car, and I plan to maintain it well and keep the looks as a new car?.So just like the Presea Lover I want to make the car perfect in everyway.I want to replace all the first three parts before taking it home, and the cupholder later. So recommend me some good and low priced places around colombo to buy those parts. Thanks?
  9. Yes I totally agree with the fact that finding a good 121 is extremely hard.Even today I went to inspect a 2013 Allion on a car sale, just to have a rough idea about the one I’m going to buy next month. The car had 79000km on the odo,but the leather of the steering shows the signs of heavy usage. But the seller has painted the interior silver door handles and they look new.Even the plastic scuff plates had no signs of usage. The sales guy have put polythene covers on the steering wheel and gear knob to make it look like a new ride.So I’m talking about a 2013 made car.121 is nearly 2 decades old now,but still there are many carefully used ones.A close relation of mine also wanted to buy a 121 after seeing mine in 2014.So he got a very rare chance.A first owner car with 67,000km done,G grade, champaign gold in J plates. The car was in pristine condition. It was hard for me to believe at that time, but now due to careless usage the car starts to show it’s age.So if you are going for a 121 make sure to find a one with all the service records even the mileage is high. I forgot to mention about the GP1. It’s really a nice car to drive and ticks all your boxes. But if you plan to do less kms per month, its better to avoid hybrids.Other than the oil burning issue and battery issue, for me ground clearance is a bit of a problem. When deciding about the reselling, it is really hard to guess.Usually in SL market Toyotas are easier to sell. But sometimes that’s not true. Two guys I know had 2017 Premios. One is pearl white with 50,000km on clock.Advertised in quick sale site for 7.26 mil and sold in two days. The other one is a 2017 wine red with 30,000km on clock.I has been up for sale for nearly 2 months (7.2mil)and still not sold. Also there are two Civic FD1s for sale in quick sale site for nearly 1.5 months still with all the records and stuff. One FD1 was quoted as 4.2mil at the begining and now the price has been reduced to 3.7mil,but still up for sale.
  10. Also I forgot to mention that most of the Corollas for sale have been beaten to death and the with tampered mileages you might have to be extremely careful when choosing one.I also had plans to go for a 2007 Allion around 4.2million and gave up the idea due to bad examples.Better to go for a known car.Always request for service records and eco test reports.Sometimes you can assume that the mileage is faulty even by looking at the cars condition. Finally I decided to go for a 2013 Allion by the end of next month even I have to stretch my budget to the max, because the car is owned by a close relation of mine.So wish you good luck on finding a nice ride.
  11. So I think I should share my opinion about Corolla 121 since I have closer to 7 years of ownership experience. I have driven an ES5 clocked around 170,000kms and a 3 clocked around 100,000km. I bought the 121 when it was clocked just 93,000km and now she's closer to 154,000km. I am nearly 80kms away from Colombo and I never had any problem regarding maintenance and sourcing parts. Other than usual running repairs, the car never came up with an issue. Still the car drives like it did on the first day I bought it. When it comes to reliability, Toyota is the best. When driving, the handling is considerably better than Axios, Allions and Premios, but the Hondas and Mazdas feels a bit more connected to the road and sharper to handle. You can feel the difference when you sit in a Honda, as the driving position feels sporty and the seats provide better side support. Also Honda seats are bit on the firm side. But the Corolla makes you feel like you are sitting on a comfortable chair. The Corolla is much more refined and isolated from the outside world. Also the suspension handles potholes and bumps much better. On the other hand both the 3 and ES5 felt way less refined for me. The ES5 i drove had Dunlops but the road noise is pretty annoying. Ride is okish until you hit a pothole or a bump, since the car is noticeably bumpier than Corolla on bad roads. It is the same story with the 3 also. But both of them gives a sporty driving experience than the 121. All the three models have equal amount of power produced by the engines, while both 3 and ES5 is about 100kg heavier than the 121.When accelerating Corolla is slightly better. When it comes to fuel economy, yeah you know the answer. A Corolla 121 is not a miracle machine by any means. It's just more suited for Sri Lankans who seeks economy and reliability. While the car is much more refined and comfortable than a Honda or Mazda, it will make you feel like you are just another guy on the road. On the other hand Mazda and Honda would make you a different person. If you need further details P.M me Cheers
  12. Should I share my 7 years experience of Corolla 121? I think it would be helpful for everyone who plans to own one.Share your opinions guys.

Everyone is encouraged to post reviews of their cars given that they are honest and unbiased. Given that you have used the car for a long time and have first hand experience, you may have valuable information others would find helpful. So please go ahead.

Yes Please! It's still a national favorite ?

  13. So I will sort out the pros and cons according to me among those two CHR Pros Claims to have a comfortable ride/Better reliability in the gasoline version/Better dashboard design/Has a cool illumination system/Should be better in handling due to rear independent suspention system/Better build quality Cons Ugly design for me/Dull atmosphere for the rear passengers/Lacks rear center armrest/Lesser initial acceleration than the vezel/Low ground clearance VEZEL Pros Crisp steering/Better for rear passengers with center armrest and good ventilation/Better ground clearance/Better initial acceleration/Better design/The body is stronger Cons Faster depriciation due to hybrid powertrain/Costly replacement of the DCT in the 2013-2016 models/Lacks a bit in the interior built quality/Firm ride/Slipping front wheels/Powertrain is not smooth/Engine sounds like a sewing machine If I were you, I’d rather purchase a permit and go for a Mitsu Eclipse Cross.
  14. Owner agreed to repair it for me?.So I’ll recommend him of these two places. Thanks
  15. I’m from Kegalle. The car is in Colombo and my relation told that he will fix it and give an interior cleaninng.
  16. @Davy Can you p.m me a place which can do a quality job? I saw some of the allions and premios advertised from the same era have upholstered from leather. This might be the cause.I think the main reason for that is the heat.Since the car has been parked under the direct sunlight, and the maroon colour absorbs heat this can be the reason.
  17. I checked the advertised cars and some of them had this issue too. That means it’s a common fault with this car.
  18. Can you recommend a place to do a quality job?
  19. No mate. All doors look same. The car has done 112,000km.A trustworthy car of a close relation.
  20. So I went to inspect my relation’s 2013 Allion. The car is in perfect body condition, and interior condition. The fabric upholstery of the doors are kind of rippled. Can this be fixed?
  21. I usually go to To***a La***a Kurunegala for all the tune ups and scans. First of all do a full checkup at there. There is a mechanic in the toyota side, who is thin and wears specs, who did an excellent job. Most probably your car should have done well over 100,000-120,000km or even closer to 200,000km if it was bought from an unknown buyer with no records.Replacements like shock absorbers, steering rack are most likely to exist on any car of the same age,and don’t do replacements from there,as it will cost you a fortune. If money is not a problem or you don’t have any trustworthy mechanic, it’s the safest choice. But places like that will always try to replace the whole part instead of repairing. For all replacements I visit a well known mechanic who does a good job to well known customers. But I’m from Kegalle therefore I have no idea about good mechanics in Kurunegala area. But I know few bad garages in Kurunegala area and P.M me if you need further details.Get details from you friends, relations and neighbours about garages, since Kurunegala is a town filled with garages, definietly you’ll find a good place. But before any of that, make sure to do a full scan and checkup from Toy Lan. For the prices, I did a full tune up,changed spark plugs, petrol filter(which is located inside the fuel tank) and engine seals together with the injector cleaning. It costed me 30,000.But your Allion has iridium spark plugs which can cost you about 15,000-20,000 to replace.Mine has copper plugs and it cost me only 4,000.The petrol filter cost about 9,000. My advice is to set aside atleast 100,000 for the running repairs since it has no records.
  22. Finding a good Allion/Premio nowadays seems to be the one of the hardest thing I’ve ever tried.Make sure to get a home used car with maintainence records.I have been checking 07-09 Allions for about a month now and still couldn’t find a single one to justify the excess price that I’m going to pay over my current 121.Almost all of them gave me the impression that even if the owners asked to exchange them for mine without any additional cost,i would say no and take my 121 home???.Even the 2016-2017 Allions/Premios have tampered meters, just reducing a 10000kms.
  23. OPINIONS WANTED ASAP.I gave up the idea of moving to a new car for a few months. But suddenly a relation of mine said that he is going to sell his 2013 Allion due to the reason that he bought the new Eclipse Cross for the permit. The car was very well maintained with KW plates imported on permit,in Maroon colour. Not met with any kind of accidents.G plus package.Only problem is that it had done 110000km.The running is almost based on highway and around colombo with good maintainence and he is quoting around 5million.For me he would most likely to reduce the price a bit.I know I have to stretch my budget to the extreme for that, but the car is in good condition. He said that he did repared the AC and an interior cleaning is needed, since he has two kids.Does it seems to be a good bargain?Sometimes he is likely to reduce the price further.Should I grab or let it go?Since he is very famous around the family for maintaining cars very well,I’m a bit hesitant to let it go?

Yup this is the 1.5 version.I always wanted a 1.8.But 1.8 version seems to be extinct in the 2013+ models.Only seen a 2011 A18 so far.

I will definietely consider about the strut bars mate when I bring her home?

    3. iRage

      iRage

Well...thanks to our lovely import tax structure...many 1.8++L did not come to the country. SO if you do not see 2013+ 1.8L variants, its probably because it didn't make sense for anyone to bring them during the period :D Like right now...wouldn't bringing down a 1.8L Allion be ridiculously pricey ?

    4. alpha17

      alpha17

Yup mate the 1.8 Allion in SL will cost equal to the S class in USA??‍♂️

  24. Went to inspect a 2007 Allion near Colombo. When I saw the ad from a sale site and called, the owner said he is the registered second owner, with genuine mileage 93000km, service records with 100% condition. Then came to know that he and I had graduated from the same university, same year batch. Then without hesitation today I went to inspect it with a friend. Man oh man!!! The car has been fully painted from a makabass. Therefore the paint is like "hodi gala wage". Even the front left side had met with an accident and the signs can clearly be seen. Engine had oil dripping marks. The car took so long to start due to bad battery. Went on a test drive. Bad hub razors, brake problems,so and so...So disappointed...Then left the place thinking how good is my current ride.

:D it all depends on what your expectations are I guess - you'd be surprised to know that there are 2018 cars that cost about 6 miilon where you have to twist the key to start it - I kid you not!

@matroska yeah I know mate that even some land cruiser do. Anyway I’ll wait and try to persuade my father’s friend to sell his Luxel or search patiently till a good allion shows up for sale

I was in the hunt for an Allion sometime back, some of the cars I came across were appalling. Their interior condition was worse than my '92 Bluebird.

  25. Better to grab out a known car through your friends or relations. If not make sure the owner has maintenance records and reports. Get the car checked by professionals otherwise we cannot guarantee if the car had been met with a major accident or caught in floods even if it has records.
