  1. Bulbs were installed at TL and on the last instance it was at a shop near Moors ground. So i assume a certain degree of professionalium in handling the bulbs. I don't see any leaks causing the issue. With regard to the bulb model I don't have a clear idea. I just went with what TL replaced for my last purchase and chose a replacement bulb with the same adaptor (HB11 or something) Any known electricians in the Union Place, borella area who can attend to this.
  2. I was using the genuine Toyota bulbs still the last time, when it got burnt, I got a pair of GE bulb replaced. I don't see any difference between the brand, even if it is brand new the result was same..
  3. I've been using this car for about 20 months now. when I got it it has done 56k and now 85k. during this period of time, I had to replace the low beam light several times, almost 8 - 10 bulbs I've replaced during the period. When I spoke to the previous user, who is a colleague at my work place, he also mentioned the same issue. Since the problem is known I had one spare bulb in the car this weekend, when I was travelling to Kandy, left side bulb went off, Upon reaching the destination I changed it. However when I stared the car last nyt to come back, the right side low beam gone off. Any good electricians who can attend to this. PN : My car developed a HV battery issue for last 6000km, I tried some diagnostics without changing the battery, nothing worked out well. last week I got a battery service done at Dilly's super in Panadura, where they cleared much of the oxidation from the bus bars. I've the pictures to post, but the capacity restrictions doesn't allows me to do so. During the trip to Kandy, the car did about 10% - 20% good on fuel. However I'm yet to confirm whether the HV problem is fully resolved or not.
  4. Sometimes back i bought this DVR cam. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Small-HD-720P-In-Car-Dash-Camera-Video-Register-Recorder-Mini-DVR-Cam-G-sensor-/231576246329?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35eb051839 My main concern was that the DVR should not be visible once fixed and should be able to connect to the car video player. this offers all these, but the camera quality especially during night hours is not so great. last time i checked, the same product is available at S*n Lanka for 15,000/=.
  5. Hi all, A friend of mine who works at VW Australia strongly advised against replacing battery cells or installing reconditioned batteries. So I checked out the prices of battery pack from Toyota Japan through another friend who is in vehicle trade in Japan. Apparently the price of battery pack is 300,000 yens, approx Rs.340,000, alternatively only battery modules can be bought for 160,000 yens, approx Rs.175,000. a known logistics company said the total import duties, including PAL & VAT will be 48% of the value. Meanwhile I took back the vehicle from TL and went home during the long weekend, when I took back the vehicle the error massage has disappeared and hybrid system was functioning normally, (when the error massage was there, the engine used to run continuously). when I was returning back to Colombo on 4th the check engine mark appeared without the hybrid system warning. So I took the car back & scanned, now its giving P0172 - System Too RICH Bank 1 error code. According to my VW friend and Google it is associated with the fuel intake and nothing to do with the hybrid system. VW friend suspects improper installation of Air filter (which I replaced at TL at the last service one month back), leading to misfiring engine, lower performance as generator to recharge the battery, ultimately leading to hybrid battery issue. He further says a low performing engine can lead to hybrid battery issue but not vise versa. I do not want to replace the HV battery as recommended and later find something wrong somewhere else to be the actual cause. I would appreciate your insights into this.
  6. Hi, I searched the forum to find out information on the issue i'm encountering now with my car, having not find any discussion, I tried to start a new topic, unfortunately I couldn't find a link to start a new topic, So I'm posting it here, a topic i posted sometime ago on the same car. about 2 months back, the 2010 Prius that i'm using started to indicate more pulling power and felt like i was driving on power mode (actually i was on eco mode) after few days the check engine mark lit up together with check hybrid battery massage. TL upon diagnosing said that 3 cells are under charged, they said the correct solution is to replace the battery pack in full, alternatively they suggested recharging the weak cells which was much cheaper option. I took the 2nd option and car was doing fine thereafter. However last night again the check engine indication came up together with check hybrid battery massage. today TL advised to go for battery pack replacement although replacing 3 battery cells would solve the issue on short - medium term. TL & Hybrid motors (HM) gave me following options, TL Replace with Brand new battery Pack - - 700k Replace 3 battery cells - 150k HM Replace with Brand new battery Pack - - 900k (1yr warranty) Replace with Re-manufactured battery pack from Japan - 400-500k (1yr warranty) Replace with Reconditioned Battery pack from local vendors - 200-300k (No warranty) Hybrid Motors Lanka said that they are not recommending changing of battery cells. My car has done only 80,000km, are there any other places that I should check which does hybrid maintenance. what would be your advise on the way forward.

    Fuel Efficiency

I keep the air pressure at 32, is it ok. the reason I don't keep the air pressure at 28-30 is thinking that it will result in even less ground clearance.

    Tyre Prices

Bought the tires for 58,800/- (inc.11% VAT) and took a drive to Galle this weekend on highway. tires seems to be good. but they did not issue any written warranty for the claimed 50,000 km range & gave me a discount voucher on 15% on Toyota Motor oil & parts. Earlier I had 185/65R15 sized tires and this time replaced with 195/65R15 sized tires. One of the tire I had is on a good condition (two worn out rear tires & the one front tire with a cut on the side wall had to be replaced), So I took it back thinking that I would be able to use it if something goes wrong with any of the new tires, since both the tires differs only on the width not on the height.

    Tyre Prices

I'm also getting Pirelli tyres from TL for 58,800 (195/65R15) with wheel alignment and balancing done free. they guarantee 50,000km as well as 15% discount on spares & 10% discount on labour at TL. they claimed the tyre is soft. My question is how come the tyre would be soft if it is to perform 50,000kms
  11. We have two hybrid cars of same kind, one reg. book says its a hybrid and the other says patrol, (although it is also a hybrid). the one which mentioned as hybrid doesnt require emmission test to renew the rev.license, for the other we have to get the test report every year. better check your and get it corrected.
  12. My purchase arrived today. Can you recommend a place to get this installed properly.
  13. Seems Axia would be a good option to wait, especially the 4 start rating, uncommon in this class cars available in Sri Lanka as well as 20+ rated fuel efficiency. As per the same article that I read on Wiki, the production of Elite & 660CC to be stopped only continuing the 850cc variant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perodua_Axia
  14. Hi, I just bought this item from Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/HD-720P-Smallest-In-Car-Dash-Camera-Video-Register-Recorder-DVR-Cam-G-sensor-/331102873255?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item4d1744e6a7 I have bought couple of items through ebay for my car in the past and all still work well. this same product is available at Sun L*nk* for 15,000/-
  15. I usually travel to Kandy during weekends, both instances I mentioned here I had two occupants and I was on way back to Colombo on Sunday night around 9pm. A/C also on full time. I stick to regular driving + occasional speeding. I do understand the fact that the consumption may vary due to various factors, but my observation is that irrespective of higher or lower fuel consumption figures that my car display indicates is less than the computed number. Only on these two instances the computed efficiency was less than the kmpl indicated in the display. Like you said it may be totally due to some other facts, but good to be vigilant, isn't it. Looks like AL members have defined a new mode or driving, "4. Was the driving pattern the same (Aggressive, regular or Prius)" you guys should wage war against priuschat .com which has a thread called 500miles club (those who completed 500miles/800km on one full tank of fuel post the picture of the trip meter)
  16. Not so, but you know I being a newbie, should respect the seniors. isn't it.
  17. Do you meant to say that it is wrong to compute and compare the fuel efficiency or something else. I thought keeping records and observing the figures has helped me to find out the discrepancy, which I should share with others also. As it may help people to avoid such places. Sorry if I have misused the forum.
  18. I think I should share my experience here. I use an android mobile application called "My Cars" and used to record the fuel and other bills on it. Fuel bills are updated together with the odometer reading, so that the app will give me the calculated fuel efficiency. My car also has a display together with trip meter indicating the kmpl on the perticuler trip. I always used to pump Euro3; full tank when my car's fuel indicator is at 2 and as a discipline I used to get down the car and make sure it is topped up full. Every time i pump fuel (full tank always) i reset the trip meter in my car so that I can see the kmpl on display. the computed fuel efficiency will be around 0.5 - 1 kmpl more than what is indicated in the car display. Recently (on 19/10/14) I pumped fuel at the IOC station in the Warakapola town, once I updated my app, it showed the computed efficiency about 1kmpl less than what is indicated. Since I have got an engine tune up also done a week back I thought it may be due to that. next time (03/11/14) I pumped fuel at a different place, as usual computed kmpl was higher than what was indicated on the display.. on 9/11/14 I again visited the Warakapola IOC on my way to Colombo. Upon computing the fuel cost this time, I found the computed eff is less than the kmpl indicated in the display, this time it is 10% less than what was indicated on the display. I think there has to be some issue with the fuel pump, either tempered or malfunctioning. I'm thinking of going to that place again to check it out. keep you posted if I get to re-verify the above finding.

  21. what would be the price of Viva Elite, compared to Maruti, Elite is good isn't it.
  22. yes, there won't be any VAT invoices when you purchase a vehicle. the lease installment between registered & unregistered vehicles will be the same in future.
  23. At the point of import there was 12% VAT charged. this VAT can be claimed by Leasing Companies, thus if you go for a 100% leasing, the leasing company would claim the respective input VAT and the lease value would be only the amount excluding VAT. When you pay lease installments,; Leasing company would charge you VAT on installment, which is called Output VAT. by the time you fully repay your lease, you would have ended up paying VAT on the value of the vehicle and on the interest payments made so far. Now the VAT on import point in fully removed & replaced with Excess Duty, which means there won't be no VAT claimable by leasing companies when doing a leasing. thus the lease value will be inclusive of all the taxes. No changes made on the VAT on lease installments. Therefore, when you are to pay installment VAT will be charged. Given that you get a vehicle lease of same value, your new installment will be at least higher by 11%
  24. Today at EY Budget Brief, Prof. Attigale said that the the total tax on cars below 1000CC has been reduced to 173% from present 202% and for passanger VANs its brought down to 100%. Similar adjustments on other vehicles also. I Just tried to reverse compute the price adjustment to the Maruti ALTO 800 priced at 1.85mn Assuming 100k is the profit margin, the cost of the car including all the taxes is assumed to be 302% (100% CIF value + 202% taxes), now it would have become 273% (100% cost + 173% taxes) thus adjusted price would be, (1.85mn - 0.1mn ) / 302% * 273% + 0.1mn = 1.68mn If the importers sticked to their profit margin, the price should come down by 170,000. since VAT is removed, when leasing the leasing companies will not be able to claim input vat, however there will be VAT on lease installments. therefore I guess it would be correct to say an additional 11% will be added to vehicles bought under new tax regime, when leased.
