  1. what agents say about lower arm bushes is this, replace the whole thing, which is manufacturer recommended repair. However, you can buy bushes in the both ends of the lower arm and any competent lathe should be able to fix them to the lower arm.
  2. Used to see a well maintained black Austin A30 on 120 bus route on daily basis, sometimes back.
  3. it's not the same version comes here. Lot of option stripped off and crap quality plastics, for close to 2.0 mil? auto 2.2 + ? not worth it
  4. A friend went ahead and bought paying little in excess of 1.9 mil. I personaly think there would be far more better options in the market a one can buy in that range, even brand new. Found crappy build quality inside, especially the plastics used and imperfections in fitting them together. Being a hatchback, it didn't have the rear wiper and washer, which can be a headache as rear windshield of a hatch collects more dust and grit as oppose to a sedan. fuel economy: he's driving at 40 kmh constant and travels from Colombo to outside Colombo daily, claimed 17.2 km/l. Can expect lessor, if driven little aggressively in bumper to bumper. Driving position was not friendly at all and didn't find any presence of steering height adjusters nor seat height adjusters. Auto is 300,000 more or so and agent themselves had advised my friend, not to go for it as coupling of the autobox with this K-series engine doesn't give a better combination for some reason, didn't bother searching what this reason is
  5. you said slight black smoke, not an issue for a diesel engine. Did you go through the emission test without any issue recently ? how was the smoke density, carbon particles in the report? Do not panic unnecessarily. However, getting a tune-up done, as in Injector cleaning and re-calibrating probably with a nozzle replacement will always provide better results towards black smoke and pulling power plus better fuel efficiency. having said that I assume you change the air filter and do services regularly. Clogged air filter can cause a black smoke with a drop in pulling power. check the diesel filter and drain water or replace if required. refrain from commenting as i've had mixed experience with different places, go with a reference through your mechanic. However, heard good comments on D*mo but never got a service done through them. if all goes well and sourcing new nozzles is not an issue, yes, can be done in one day. injector nozzles, depending on the condition of the nozzles, o-rings a denso nozzle would cost around 4,000, not quite updated on this. edit: P.S - Mileage is not the ONLY DETERMINANT factor for an engine overhaul. I've seen 1C and 2C engines running close to 300k without an overhaul, a relative of a friend running his HIACE close to 500k without an overhaul!! Keep the overhaul as the last ditch.
  6. are we to see a price crash of those Prados and Pajeros registered as Land vehicles ?
  7. still the weight of the vehicle should be measured. If that's the case they will use kind of scales you find in RMV. Wonder, the entering time will surpass the time benefit of the highway
  8. Time to show it to an electrician. Sounds like either the blower fan itself or fan connectors are melting due to 1. loosen connectors 2. resistant/load on the fan motor is there any difference of the speed of the windflow as of recent? Further, is this smell and speed of the fan are inter related? as in you get this smell when the fan works on full speed?
  9. YOM of an oldest D8 would be of late 96 FYI
  10. This policy decision is aiming at three wheelers per say due to various reasons including uplifting the standards. This won't treat the same vehicle category in different ways. Since you mentioned, i find nano cabs prices including the starting fee is very very tempting and goes close to of thee wheel charges.
  11. Oh, my bad, didn't pay attention to the cvt part in the subject. The stress on the system and drive belt wear too should be considered. Then, changing to N makes more sense.
  12. You can be well conversant with automotive knowledge and might be capable of carrying out a repair by youself even. What watchmen said was your contribution to the forum was nil which is true. Not taking anyone's side here, but the reputation on the forum is built, based on contribution made in helping each other and enriching forum content. Being a new member, JDNET earned that reputation quite well and quickly by posting quite a lot of helpfull information and DIY stuff. No point of bragging about what you did and your knowledge on automobiles, show it and prove it in the forum and we all will be benefitting.
  13. Xenon is the gas filled inside a bulb. There are non HID Xenon gas filled lights and they too market as Xenon lights. HID is High Intensity Discharge, where there's no filament to glow, but an electric spark/arc to work as the source of light. HIDs are energy efficient as conventional filament bulb will emit lot of heat as oppose to HID
  14. There are differences in brand new diesel sold by agent and the ones brought down from Japan. I don't see a point in spending quite a lot of money on the diesel version offered by agents as it's a stripped down version of 141 with an old diesel engine as oppose to common rail engine offered in other continents. All was to match the permit which has been on offer back then. Why rare? the value was exorbitantly high if you don't have a permit, even if you do, the options were not tempting for permit holders. A petrol 141 Automatic with better options and lots of bells and whistles could've been purchased at a lower price for the permit. Old motor which was adequate for 121 body was not sufficient for this bigger body and power/weight ratio is not the best as in other Corollas. (this issue is there for 1.6l version offered in local context)
  15. can I claim the damage that stray dog did to my car's bumper, fog lights, inner mud guard covers, etc from the NGOs appearing for stray dog's rights? and prevent them evicting from roads like good old days?

      Schiffer

well, what do you think, it lost it hole cover, the car got mentally depressed, and had to introduce to someone called Fog lamps, to make it smile again :P

  16. Shifting to N will reduce stress on engine and mounts and on torque converter, not the gear box or valve body. I'm also doing this at lights but still having doubts that it will lead to excessive operation on valve body and pressure regulating valves. May be the life time of valve body is being reduced. Any advise from a user manual. ?
  17. This pic is not very clear, anyways, auto means 4wd activates only when rear wheels starts slipping, lock will simply lock it full time on 4WD.
  18. Be cautious about the policy decissions to be made, specially around Colombo City, not to allow three wheelers in. As I've seen in recent past, the policy decissions were aiming towards restricting, limiting importing and using three wheelers. Two stroke engine ban, enforcing better safety standards (one side to permenantly block from entering/exiting from the three wheeler) and tax hikes and now not allowing three wheelers in Colombo city limits in the near future. In terms of safety, you have to think not twice but many many times as I've seen terrible accidents at very low speeds during busy and slow moving traffic. End of the day, your life worths more than few litres of fuel, to your family and loved ones. If you can stretch your budget to at least to a mini van, go for it.
  19. a new type of translation, Typo translation
  20. That's really nice of you to point that out on behalf of OP, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue about what the OP would've meant. I really appreciate your presence in this forum and the great job you're doing by enlighting us all and interpreting all typos. hats off to you ..
  21. layers are usually female, as in hens isn't it ? uncle a layer, doesn't go hand in hand
  22. Nah, it's not a rank and doesn't sound cool to use as an option anyways
  23. Awe, you got a rep up from a doc for the sarcastic comment you made on the whole scenario. Sorry, forgot, logic isn't taught in THAT subject stream isn't it? bank on topic, what's the confusion about the tint law now? you can't have any tint at all on front windows (can have a sun blind tiny strip on front windshield) and you can have pitch black even on rear half, any cop would know this by now and no confusions at all. So, keep up to it, you won't get caught. If you do get caught (don't waste yours or anyone else's time) telling the story to whole world. Simple.
  24. you seems little over worried, aren't you? have done some nasty things with hub grease and now worried of getting caught?
  25. So as I thought and was about to ask, you beat me to it. So you will find other options such as I/P, S/I, C/I etc.. interesting. Btw A/C is Air Conditioning or Assistant Constable (there's no such rank alright )
