0 Gayan Weerakoon
Since it happens only when he changes to D or R im pretty sure its the gearbox. If it was the engine it would vibrate on all gears regardless....

0 Elvis_Pil
Yup I'd check the mounts & engine ICV, plugs, timing etc. before the gear box. (assuming the gears are changing etc. properly)

0 Ripper
even if it's the gearbox...most issues can be fixed without having to ditch the box and go for a new one!
0 Riz
Thnks a lot for ur advises, yes ICV valve and spark plugs were cleaned as Elvis said, the vibration reduced a bit, but not completly, vibration was terrible earlier. Although Gayan's prediction was gear box screwed, i was pretty sure since vibration reduced after ICV clean up gearbox was not at fault. May be perhaps as other advises, shall go underneath the van and check the conditions of the mounts etc..
0 jdnet
well the vibrations reduced after you cleaned the plugs? so it was prolly a misfire. How about installing some new plugs and checking the gap?
0 Riz
Well jdnet, actually i did a minor tune up cleaned the plugs resetted the gaps throttle body clean etc, which actually gave a little bit of a quick start and accelaration. But vibration (gear engaged) reduced after ICV valve clean up, Is there any other things to clean.. reset etc. other than mounts.

0 Archon
have you changed your gear oil? And checked the gear oil level? Do it when the engine is not running. what’s the color of the gear oil now? is it dark red (black-red)? .. if it so, then you have to change the gear oil. 0 The Don
Like a few has said, it sounds like the engine is not producing enough torque hence the vibration when gears are engaged. Could be a misfire or a tuning issue (the engine being retarded) or possibly a sensor/ ECU electronic issue. I'd actually plug the car to a diagnostic system and see what it reports. How is the vehicle to drive and does it accelerate ok?
0 Riz
Archon - No i have not checked the colour of the oil, i shall check it tomrow... Don - Accelaration ok, when the engine is hot the vibration tends to reduce a lot, vibrates a lot during first cold start, another one more minor issue the engine too vibrates (gear disengaged)in the morning and once hot idle ok. 0 The Don
Actually sounds like an issue with the fuel injection system. Take the car to Toyota Lanka, get it plugged to the diagnostic system and get a report. I think this should shed some light on the mystery.
