Engine Rpm

Hi All

Im using Suzuki swift 1.3 / HT51S. When I start the car in the morning its rpm is like 1000. after few seconds rpm goes to like 1400 and varies from 1100 to 1400 . If i keep it without doing anything sometime later its going down. But if I put to "D" or "R" is goes to 1000.

But this happens in the morning , after engine heats up , when i start the car rpm is like 600~700. Is it normal or is there anything wrong.

Please help.

My family has got the same car. Ours shoots up to about 1300 when you start from cold in the morning, then slowly drops to about 700 and stays there. It is normal for the idle speed to go up at a cold start and then drop as the engine warms up, but I'm not sure if it should go up and down like you describe.

It takes like 5~10 min to come like 600 ~ 700 RPM in cold start , is there any thing that I have to do

Is this 5-10 minutes of idling or 5-10 minutes of running?

5-10 min of idling, I just wnted to check whether its getting normal , so kept engine running until it heats , just to clarify , is this happens because of oxigen sensor , or need injector clean or engine tuneup , I heard that there may be that sort of issues , is there anything related go that .thanks

To be honest this sounds ok. The usual problems that cause this is carbon build up on the throttle body and the idle control valve.

A so called tune up might be useful if you haven't done one in a while, but basically the focus should be in cleaning the airflow sensor, idle control valve and throttle body. But I would not get too concerned. If you want the idle to come down quicker, after few minutes race the engine to about 3000 rpm and let go of the accelerator and it should drop.

Nothing unusual as don said.

Just that idle up valve / stepper motor increases the engine speed during first few minutes of a cold start.

I contacted the previous owner , and he told me that when he was using , he checked and got to know that the oxygen sensor is weak , is that the same thing called airflow sensor. And where can I check , any electrician can check it ? He is from outside colombo and couldn't help on it. Due to this condition , will the engine consume more fuel.

The oxygen sensor and the airflow sensor are two different components. The oxygen sensor is fitted to the exhaust manifold while the airflow sensor is usually fitted to the air line coming from the air filter box or somewhere between the filter and the butterfly valve in the throttle body.

Now faulty oxygen sensors do not usually cause idle issues, but with EFi cars you can't rule it out (as it helps the ECU to adjust the air fuel mixture to maximize efficiency, so a faulty reading might make the ECU think the car is running too lean). My suggestion is to get a diagnostics report done which will confirm if the oxygen sensor is faulty. Faulty oxygen sensors will most certainly lead to a drop in fuel economy.

I forgot to mention this , in previous posts , I have experienced a engine jerk. This does not happen often.When using my car every day this is not happening.After not using car for 2-3 days I experience this issue.
