I have seen a few e39 cars that have the air bag light burning all the time. is it some known issue? also what would be a reasonable price for a 2002 525i with 80k km on clock.

Well we have a e39 (2002 late) in the family which had this issue. It is apparently common issue with this version. The agents reset it once, and the issue never popped up. It can probably be due to a bad airbag sensor (airbag occupancy sensor), if the issue continues after resetting, you could try replacing the sensor (about Rs. 5k - 6k off ebay). But you might have to factor in the reupholstering cost?. But in most cases, a simple reset would do.

With current market prices a e39 of that mileage should be around the 3.6 - 4.0 mill range. However as in the case of most beemers, it all depends on how well it has been maintained. Paying a premium for a well maintained car is sure worth it.

Mine had it. Had it reset by MadMmx. No issues since then.. until today... while driving home in the rain from Negombo both TCS/DSC and ABS warnings lit up. Tomorrow morning gonna check the sensors on the wheels and see what exactly is the matter.

I had the same experience a few months ago where the DSC, ABS (and also the orange handbrake light came on). It happened to be the front right abs sensor. costed 16k at milroys. Could have got it down for less than 7k :(
