Alfa Romeo Need Help

My friend had an alfa once. While crossing the railway track the whole exhaust system fell out. There was a major issue with it and so they got it exchanged for a passat. It was an alfa romeo 156 and at the time was new. I dunno how the reliability of an alfa is now. But buyers beware its gonna cost you.

Good time of day

Hallo, im really fan of Alfa Romeo. And now asking for your advice...

If anybody knows any bad sides of this car, please write here.

Hi,

I had an Alfa 164 3.0 V6 24Valve sometime back as a car it is a very powerful car but it has its quirks and it would get problems regularly and unlike Jap cars which take a beating and keep ticking the Alfa tends to just shut down and not run at all. The dealer is very dodgy in Sri Lanka and only a few others know how to work on one. Parts are also hard to find and cost on average 35-60% more than equivalent Jap car parts.

So though they are fantastic cars they have to have a good service agent or professional when things go wrong or you're in a tonne of trouble. The newer 156s and 166s are better than the old ones though the 155 twin spark with the timing chain is also quite OK. Stay away from the 164. The plasticky interior is also a detractor in the older cars.

Resale values are low for exactly the reasons mentioned above.

Cheers, Porky

wats up alfa fan.....wel yea iv got an alfa its a 2.0 156 n its a gorgeous work of art. I cud tel u

all abt it and go on and on cus once u drive an alfa (im talkin abt the newer versions) the thrill is jus amazin.

The bad side is wel not the car maybe the agents I hav to agree there not the best in town. The parts kinda expensive but the car compensates for all that. Its got an amazin engine its got the looks and the interior well i mean after all its made in ITALY everyone has to agree. Basically if u maintain the car very well you won't be in to much trouble. The driving is so smooth and the handling. Iv driven Jap cars but wen u speed the car seems to topple but with an alfa thats the difference u can hit 180 and u won't feel it!!! So gud luck wit ure alfa endevour.

im a proud owner of a alfa 156 v6 monza version with red monza leather interior, 18inch original italian alloys, ive re-programmed the ECu and have fitted an aftermarket exhaust. I was warned by many 'pundits' that alfa's are a problem child, but the bottom line is if you take good care of it, it will last u awhile.

as for resale value goes, well why would u want 2 sell such a car anyway?

anyone seen the red alfa 156 selespeed (selespeed denoting tiptronic)...beautiful car...

but seriously ive heard reliability issues with the alfa's but jus seeing that the agent has bikes in their showroom makes me think twice abt what the real problem is...gud to knw they'r trouble free...

I think Alfa has gotten better within the past couple of years. From the top gear car survey in 2003, they were placed last. car manufacturers like perodua beat them. I think you could get a used 156 now for about 1.7million, considering it rivals a 3 series, its is quite cheap.

Friend of mine had one, beautiful car. However, reliability=shit. It spent more time in the garage than on the street. Another time one of the wheels came off at 60kmph. And it wasn't that the wheel hadn't been fixed correctly either, some problem with the axle apparantly. Company was full of apologies and fixed it free, but by that time my friend had enough and sold it :D He said the Selespeed feature was not smooth at all, may have been a problem with the individual car :)

Hi 0007 have you got an Alfa as yet?

As described by some guys here there are the advantages and disadvantages as well. The advantages - the looks, the drive, the handling and above all the sensory pleasure that cannot be compared with any other car bar a more exotic Italian.

The disadvantages - horrid agents and dealers not only in SL but all over the world it seems. They are revamping heavily now.

And the 70 s cars rusted while you watched or caught fire with poor electrics. The 80s and early 90s saw a small come back. But the build quality was poor. All this was due initially to Government ownership and later small development budgets owing to no profits for years. And of course mismanagement.

IMHO I think the cars to go for in SL are the 146, 164 2.0 twin spark not the V6, And the preface lift 155 as mentioned by someone earlier.

But if you can afford it go for a 156. Very good build quality with all the charisma of an Alfa.

There is a good specialist who does repairs and brings down parts. So no real worries there.

the 156 is a pretty car but be careful of wat u pick up cos most of em hav not been lookd after properly from an owner's point of view...n its not only cos of the agents...

besides that those 2L 156's r pretty cracking...i think they've got jus over 160bhp...heavy but still...

Yes history is a must timing belt needs replacing every 40,000km. But generally they are well built and reliable unlike the earlier cars.

Most cars are twin sparks in SL. 2.0 cars got 150bhp. Only the facelifted JTS (direct injection) has 165horses. But there are only 2 in SL.
