    I am, Any idea of how an auto trans efi engine will run with an manual gear box? -very badly Yes, you'll need an in-tank pump if you want the real deal. you might need a new tank with that. Alternately, you can fit an in line high pressure feed pump run off a relay from the ignition/ecu. P.S. Kindly upload pics of your engine bay.

    First question..how much are you willing to spend? Second, is worth it? You may be able to instead of re inventing the wheel, Get a good tune up. and get most of the lost power/ economy at a fraction of The cost of a a new engine while keeping the original engine. Your car may sill be running on the gas tune settings. The oil on top of the engine will stop with a new valve cover gasket. Use 20W50 oil for the noisy engine . There re lots of tuning - guru's discussed in this forum who have done good jobs. P.s As for your conversion, yes, you'll need a complete wiring harness and ECU . but the hardest thing is that most 20 odd year old cars were chopped and not dismantled by people who did not see the value of wiring.

    NEVER HAMMER IN THE CONNECTORS! Now tat the damage has been done, clean the post/terminal with hot water, spray WD40. and repeat every time you top up the battery. TT.

    Sorry to hear of your prob. take it to the dealer and do a diagnostic test before you do anything .the trans ecu memory might have what happened in memory You have been given the only guaranteed repair which is replacement.

In answering, 1.Common prob in Beemers of this vintage. its the instrument binnacle.- non reparable and prob attempted and botched before. 2.Get a new system.Recommend ss. could be due to a blocked cat - replace. 3.Could be the pump.- replace. 4. you can get cheap from bay Get the front lower arms and the Tbelt looked at . TT.

    How's the plugs? does your dizzy have CB points? if so how are they? <condition> Why not invest in a good tuneup? previous threads have good recommended places. TT P.s. A mistrusted carb can give your symptoms .

    Two words best describe what can be the damage. Engine washing. or your beloved got caught in the Tsunami Fitting a replacement , is going to be quite a feat as it is fitted in the factory when the car is assembled. Eg before the brake lines and fuel lines are fitted.`I agree that a heat+sound insulation is needed inorder to have acceptable levels of NVH. To stop further degradation of the original heat shield, Ask your service station to not wash the engine bay. I've already written a simple soloution to your prob before, yes,that stays, just hang it in front of the existing broken heat shield behind the engine.n GOOD LUCK! TT.

    Upload a few pics please, Is it the firewall heat insulator,? You can get heat insulation meterial with aluminium lined at hardware shops sold by the meter. Get some and cut to shape,.. Good luck,.. TT. P.s. Note to moderator, error in uploading replies,..Sorry.
