Thanks Mate..! Yeah I know, my Disco is not getting much love these days, so nothing much to update on my "Discovery 1" thread. Not necessarily my fault, the Landy has been reliable and haven't had much dramas with it.

Hello All, So I`ve been wanting to build a car for track use and to have some fun driving around over the weekend. Always had the idea in mind, but my ‘itch’ got worse after selling the Subaru BRZ I had before..! The eligibility criteria were: · Since this is purely for entertainment purposes, the car had to be cheap to buy and maintain. · I am a big fan of well-balanced light weight cars. They are great fun to drive within legal speed limits, and cheap to maintain after been thrashed around in a race track. · Manual transmission and RWD is a must. Other choices/contenders were: · BMW e30, preferably a 325i · Toyota Ae86/85/Sprinter Trueno · Westfied clubman/Lotus 7/Caterham 7 For various reasons, the MX-5 came up top in my list and picked this car up a couple of weeks ago. I hope to document my journey with the car here, as the little MX-5 evolves over time..! The following pics were taken on the day I bought her home Rear view - with soft-top on: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzuOqeXrghn8YWxEX0g4N1hZTWc/view Rear view - with hard-top on: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzuOqeXrghn8cGliX1JHaGE4Mjg Front view - look at those eyes, happy as F#*k..! https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzuOqeXrghn8SnlqdHJWTVBMSFk

Machang, if you are serious about it, buy that Lancer Flat Light first. Buy THE best example you can find. Then start working on the brakes. Drive a new car (i.e. minimum 5 years old), and try to fix/upgrade the Lancer’s brakes to feel and work like new car`s brakes. Once you`ve done those, post here, you will definitely get some help/direction. P.S. a properly tuned 4G63 will rip a 40 year old lancer differential into bits (that is if anything else in the drive-line doesn't break before that). So yeah, buy and start using that lancer first..

Ha ha..! Thanks machang..! I needed front tires, so these were a steal coz they came with almost new Yokohama Advan tires, all for 350 bucks..! (AUD). A couple of pics below. Nothing fancy, but the best car I’ve owned in-terms of value and practicality. For some reason Mitsubishi decided to drop the Outlander engine (2.4, SOHC, MIVEC) in the Lancer for a couple of years for the Aussy market (back in 2004 – 2006 or so), so it`s got plenty of poke for a little 1350kg car..!

Yeah, i believe they are multi-stud wheels (i.e. 4x100 and 4x114.3).

Didn’t mean to hijack your thread, but posting since this is somewhat related. Bought a CH wagon recently and picked up a set of OZ Racing wheels (OEM Mitsubishi badged) second hand. Leaving a couple of pics here:

Better get a cost break-down from the agents if possible. Including all parts and labor costs. I don’t know about this particular engine, but if the genuine kit includes hydraulic tensioners, water pump etc.. it won’t be cheap and the price looks about right.
-
I was actually referring to the Limited Edition ES (released 2007 or so), dont know whether the wheels are exactly "F1`s" though.. Edit: it wasn't the CG series though, was towards the end of life-cycle of the CH series..

Those O.Z Racing wheels come as standard (higher spec) on the Aussy CG Lancer. Good choice machan..

Anybody using an OBDII diagnostic dongle (WiFi or Bluetooth)? I need something with smart power management (device would go to sleep after xx minutes of inactivity) so that I can leave it plugged in all the time. “PLX devices – Kiwi 2/Kiwi 3” seems like a quality piece of kit, but is insanely expensive for what it does. Any particular brand you could recommend, apart from the cheap generic Chinese “ELM 323” devices? I`ve been looking at one particular model, “Vgate iCar3 (WiFi)”, just checking whether anyone has come across something similar.

What Is The Highest Mileage Vehicle You Have Seen

What is a "Kapiri Ford"? haven't heard that before. -
I love it when they refund in cash for a credit payment though...You get a cash advance from the credit card with no extra interest, bank fees, etc....

Ah ok, good luck with the hunt.. hopefully you`ll get a favorable reply from some who knows better..

Unfortunately I can’t be of any help on your query, but since you are looking for it specifically, have you had much good experience with Liqui-Moly products? I`ve used: “Diesel Purge”, “Diesel Clean and Boost” and “Diesel Algae Stop”. I find the first two products work very well, but the latter I can only hope that it does what it`s supposed to do .

Ah, that name rings a bell, I believe Getrag is quite popular with the BMW community..

Ok, cool.. The reason I ask is because it’s unclear whether Mitsubishi is going to continue developing/sourcing duel clutch boxes or go with CVT`s. They haven’t really used a duel clutch box on anything else apart from the Evo and Ralliart Lancer haven’t they? Even the revised Outlander has got a CVT on the petrol variant. Subaru on the other hand are sticking to their guns with CVT`s and the gear box on the current WRX is quite brilliant..!

Nice one machang..! How does the twin clutch gear box feel? I hear that it`s not as quick as Golf GTI`s DSG box, but I’m sure it`s quick enough. Does it down-shift well? Got rev-match/throttle blip on downshifts?

They simply wanted the "Best KDH"......

yeah...! the end-result definitely looks good.. could you keep us posted on how well this`ll last over time please.? As in, would it peel off after a pressure wash or do you have to use low pressure water and a rag to clean now?

Couldn't agree more.. My Land Rover with just 340k in the clock raise a few eyebrows when mentioned.

Jap? Indian? Used? Not used? does it really matter as long as the quality is good?

You can definitely shift up to any gear you like, as long as you are using low range where it is supposed to be used. Which surfaces to use 4L depend mostly on the design of the gearbox/transfer box/drive-train, but generally, it`s ok to be in 4L as long as you are not driving on a hard surface like tarmac. 1st gear in 4Low is not very useful most of the time (unless you are pulling a very heavy load need to get going from a standstill, etc..), you will most probably be using 2nd and 3rd in 4L during normal 4WDriving.

Sorry machan, I don’t have a clue about the tax structure over there. Someone else with better knowledge might answer. I can’t imagine there would be much tax on a 12v Lamp since 240v LED household globes can be had for less than 1000 bucks. I mean, a 12v LED work light won’t be classified as motor car spares right? 40,000 is insane though, at the end of the day they are all made in a Chinese factory (the stuff I bought over here as well), so perhaps you should check in an electronics/electrical joint in Pettah who bring stuff over from China?
