  1. being pulled over for not displaying tax discs is fine but being told to remove your jaai sticker and pasting the copy there is ridiculous. There are so many stickers and passes of similar shape and size some of us have to put up like for example the ssc sticker. the cops are just nitpicking.
  2. saw givantha's 510 in kegalle last wednesday. looks unbelievably good in metal.
  3. ITB's do have filter options. there are box type ones and individual pods. low down torque should be ok as long as the trumpets are long enough. there's a lot of space behind the engine right? Also a 4-2-1 manifold with longer runners should help the mid range And all that's left is the tune? C'mon komi. who are we kidding?
  4. That engines built for abuse. How about some headwork and maybe ITB's in the future?
  5. Sometimes the the lubricant in the rails get fried in our hot weather. So the sunroof would go back easily but struggle to close because of the way cables are aligned. Does it close very slowly before it stop and retracts? No point buying a sorento without sunroofs. that's one of the best options in the car.
  6. Domo kun. A japanese stop motion cartoon character and NHK mascot
  7. Did you put in ACL bearings?
  8. Honda can pull it off cos the dc motor sits on the engine side right before the gearbox. Not in the gearbox like in the prius. so in perspective the engine and the motor don't give two hoots about what kind of a gearbox is behind them unlike in other hybrid systems where there's a lot of dependency. Automatics are definitely more common but I wouldn't call manuals rare. Should be around the same price or more cos anyone who owns a manual these days or wants to buy one find them very desirable.
  9. Happy to see the car finally come home. I know just how exciting this feels. All those hours you wasted sometimes for very little action in the garage, the disappointment when something goes wrong, the endless hours on the internet ogling similar cars and daydreaming of how you'd drive around in yours when its ready, and that feeling of withdrawal as it gets so close to being completed yet gets dragged on forever. So congrats komi on a job well done. Now let's get the mapping done, add some nice tyres later and lose those mudflaps cos they don't feel at home on a type R.

  11. Those recaro sr replicas are really nice. are they a lot lighter than oem seats?
  12. still, even a top of the line corolla gt was about 1.8 million yen at the time according to old catalogs. Anyone who bought this was either bonkers or hated attention.
  13. I like to think I'm a good driver. But then you don't know when your luck or talent might run out or some idiot runs in to you. sh*t happens right? my concern is just cos your vehicle faces the risk of crashing 1/4 as opposed to a daily driver when something goes wrong if it does go wrong a crash is a crash your vehicle and your wallet will take the brunt of it. Too bad they haven't got packages for 2nd or 3rd cars here like they do in other countries. so you can state the sort of driving you do and how often you do it in a particular vehicle (like twice a week) and the premium goes down. Anyway Watchman your theory is indeed applicable if a persons running older more common vehicles (10+ years) like for an example a carina or a corolla. but for more recent vehicles we are looking at about 1mil per repair if the airbags go off even if the car starts and moves, for airbags, radiators condensors, bonnet, lights, etc. If its just a light in a car park fender bender we are looking at about 30k per side. So its better to have cars like these insured just for peace of mind.
  14. If you are wearing your sensible pants anything more than one car especially when there's only one license holder in the family is too much. first of all there's the space issue. No point just parking them around the house in the open if you are an enthusiast. then you have to figure out how you plan to use them. when you leave cars stranded for upto a week I've noticed they feel aged when you get back in them especially as they get older. They will definitely smell funny with age the longer you leave them parked. Then you might have them parked one behind the other. And you might have the ones you like more parked towards the front. So the ones in the back could get neglected. Even if you try to put in equal miles in them you might have to start one car move it out get the car you want and reverse the former back in. And this puts in quite a bit a wear and aids sludge build up if the engine doesn't get a chance to reach operating temperature every time. Finally there are the costs to consider. If you had 3 vehicles and 6 working days a week you can take each car out twice a week, fuels costs and servicing costs won't be much of a problem cos each can run further for longer. But like many said there's licensing cost and insurance. That comes up every year whichever way you use the car. So three cars mean 3 times the tax and insurance of which 2/3 is wasted just keeping each car at home. you do the math. 3rd party isn't really an option. cos with the odds of having a crash it could happen in any one of them on any day. so it pays to have them insured. However what matters at the end of the day is how much of of a petrolhead you are and how much you are willing to sacrifice. So its your choice, and your family's.
  15. This is the 510 that belonged to a broker I know which I missed by a few days. it was sold for 65k and the guy who got it wanted 200k for it after some insignificant work on it. Wonder who owns it and how much he got it for.
  16. Its definitely oil burning. most probably the valve seals. Not the biggest job. you can just take the head out and fix it while the rest of the engine is in the car. Shouldn't cost a fortune.
  17. Guys any sites to watch initial d stage 5 with english subs? Youtube is taking down their videos because of copyright stuff.
  18. Hows the smoke coming out of the exhaust? Does it look different when you are losing power as in does it smoke up or smell oily? After considering the symptoms I could deduce a few things. the decarbonizing may have broken away carbon particles in areas that are worn out and are susceptible to leaking oil. It could be the exhaust valves with the oil coming through the heads. just a hunch. leaked oil might be covering up the O2 sensor(s) in the exhaust. As you said this happens during high revs so it could definitely be more oil seeping through. Subsequently the faulty signal coming from the O2 sensor might make the ecu believe there isn't enough oxygen being drawn in and cut down fuel to keep the ignition lean. My guess is your cat is ok but if this actually is an oil leak it could most probably mess it up. As for removing the cat it shouldn't cause any problems as long as there isn't a secondary O2 sensor after the cat. Anyway observe the exhaust during this scenario. you can tell a lot from the colour and the smell.
  19. Good stuff komi! happy that the car is almost done. also seeing all these ricers with hondas around like that baby godzilla fellow makes me admire your efforts even more.

Funny you should bring up this car, I saw a pretty clean looking white Escort (2 door) trundling down Ward Place this morning.

  21. if we are talking about cars for noobs that are easy to drive the later k11 march takes the cake. my gf's got one which she absolutely hates driving. So sometimes I end up driving it. It can turn super tight and has overly sharp brakes and very light controls which lack any kind of feel (mostly thanks to eps), which I'm sure people who'd avoid driving an alfa 159 would admire. But to praise the car where it really deserves it, I got caught in a race once with coupla friends in a 3.2 montero and a 3.0 hilux, both veyrons compared to the 60bhp march plus both drivers used to run evos. we started towards the end of the duplication road and straight away their 300+ hp left me looking for extra gears in the march. But by the time we got home I had to wait for those two down templers road to catch up cos the march managed to zip through galle road traffic so well. Btw if you are tempted to buy one now remember it does an unbelievable 8 km/l in city running However if you are looking for something middle of the road that actually handles and handles pretty well on rough roads and relatively easy to run, maintain and flog, get a lancer cs3 manual. My friend who raced with me in the montero has one and when he first brought it out I remember driving it on old tattered kotte road at 120 and the car being in total control. On the same road those days (before they fixed it) I would struggle to get past 70 in the vitz rs without being all over the place. I always enjoy driving that car despite other more impressive stuff he brings along.
