  1. Good advise. In addition to above, if the car has been running rich it would create a lot of carbon deposits on top of the pistons and the combustion chamber. A good and easy way to clean that up is to fully warm your engine and run a bit of automatic transmission fluid though it to clean up the combustion chamber so you don't run into any hot spots and create detonation. The process is to get a new quart of automatic transmission fluid [no matter which kind as long as it's new auto trans fluid]. Remove the air cleaner and while the engine is running introduce little auto fluid through the carb opening while the engine is running and work the throttle manually. Repeat this for several times. You will see a lot of smoke out of the tail pipe and that is normal. This will clean up the combustion chamber of most of the carbon build up and you should have no hot spot issues. After this is done, you will have to change out your spark plugs to a new set. On older cars some of the seals and O rings may be damaged in the carburetor. You may be able to take the carb apart and rebuild it which should also take care of the issues that you're having. This will allow you to address all the parts, in the carburetor, including the jets to make sure that everything is clean, and with new seals and O rings, your carb will be good as new and should give you years of trouble free operation. Good luck.

  4. All, I looked around the net to get some information on the banking system in SL. More I looked more confused I got. There are accounts with all kind of names but none is clearly explaining the pros and cons of each of those accounts. Can someone give me some information on what is the best interest bearing account one can have in a Sri Lankan bank? Is it better to deposit the funds in US $ or Sri Lankan Rs? What kind of realistic returns can be expected? etc... I'm trying to track down the best savings accounts available in SL. Thanks for the help. Mani.
  5. Ripper, I do have a solution but it's by way of hard shell bag that I have. Only problem is that it's few miles from where you are right now. My recommendation is that a small wood box that you can strap to your back seat about the size of your camera bag which you should be able to find at a market. They often get goods in those boxes and may have one that they can spare or let you have for few bucks. Have you thought about mailing it a head of time to a hotel near where you will end up at? I've done this in the past on my luggage so I don't have to drag them around. However, I don't know how reliable the boys in SL are for this. Good luck bro and please post up those pictures when you get em. I haven't even seen 10% of that country of mine so I'll appreciate them a a lot Sorry I can't be of more help.
  6. Hahaha, that is golden. :D Great find.
  7. LA times got a blurb about the conflict today... http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/wo...0,4125399.story Bunch of the hoodlums were arrested in Paris http://in.reuters.com/article/domesticNews...LK3655020090420 UK had a huge rally couple of days ago but I think most of their cries are falling on def ears. Here's to hoping for a speedy end to this
  8. Hey hey hey! I take offense to that comment. I bought two tea spoons worth of the powder last time. I didn't share any of it though

  11. HelRazor, If you're pushing on a bike, get good gear all over bro. Casual cloths will do nothing by way of protection against the ground. Lot easier to replace gear than your skin and bones. I can see the issue with wearing leather in SL weather [hey that rimed ] but hitting the ground at even 50-60 will do a number on your body. This was the last exit I had and without the gear I will have no skin left in better part of my body. Got away with just a cracked shoulder and nothing more. On a side note, how can one get a liter bike in SL? Share the secrets please
  12. Oh one last thing. Some cars have a separate switch to activate the fan, as in 3rd sensor dedicated to the fan operation only. So please make sure of that as well.
  13. Also, have you confirmed that the water is actually boiling before the fan comes on, as in the actual temperature of the water? There is the other possibility that the temp gauge is faulty. I would also make sure that your thermostat is functional. Fairly easy to do by placing it in boiling water to monitor operation. Both the above are easier to do than the sensor so get them out of the way before tackling the sensor. As far as I understand about your car, and please don't hold me to this and only use it as a general guide; cooling fan should begin to operate when coolant temperature reaches approximately 191-197°F. Fan should stop running when coolant temperature drops to approximately 182-188°F. You'll need a tool like below. Someone who has it should know how to use it. Then, test the resistance across the sensor terminals to make sure that the sensor is functional. Testing procedure Drain cooling system and remove cooling fan temp switch from the thermostat housing. Connect suitable ohmmeter [above] between sensor terminals. Heat thermo sensor in water and not fire while observing ohmmeter. Meter should indicate continuity when temperature reaches ~190 degrees F. Allow sensor to cool while observing meter. Meter should indicate no continuity as temperature drops below approximately 182-188 degrees F. If sensor fails to operate as outlined, sensor is defective. Good luck
  14. There should be two. Sending unit and a sensor. Most likely the sensor is the culprit [per Gearhead]. You should be able to test the resistance and compare it to what the factory recommended tolerance is to quickly identify if the sensor is the problem. Better than average that it is the problem.

  16. 1009 kmh. Sadly I was the passenger and still took 23 hrs to get home.
  17. Happy B day broham...

  19. Thanks Ravi, I have your phone number. I'll contact you when I get things sorted out and I also passed the information about the doctors you recommended to my family so they can get in touch with them. I also just got off the phone with one of the specialist who will talk to the doctors that's treating him to compare notes and see if there is anything else that can be done. Again, thanks everyone.
  20. Thanks xXx and Ripper. That is where he is right now. I'm told that there are 7 specialists looking after him so he is in good hands. My hope is to explore every little posibility there is, even if it's a fraction of a percent. Unfortunately the latest update I received is not very encouraging. I'm hoping against all odds he will pull though. Sadly that is all I have to go by and I have never felt this helpless in my life. Can't wait to get home.
  21. Thanks Damith and Isam for the information. I'm going to print this page just before I leave so I have all the information when I get there. I have also passed the information on to my family in SL so as to look into every option we have available.
  22. Hello all, I'm reaching out to you guys here with an emergency that is completely unrelated to this forum. A very close relative of mine has been poisoned with "Curator". As far as I understand that is how it's spelled and it is used to kill weed and bugs that destroy rice plants. He is in extremely critical condition and rapidly deteriorating. I want to make sure that he's getting the best care possible and I'm powerless sitting half world away. I'm reaching out to any of you who can recommend me the best doctor and or the hospital in SL that specialize in poisoning cases. I'm catching a flight to SL early tomorrow. As such, I have less than 24 hours. If you know of or can recommend me to someone, private or government [cost is no objection] that will provide the best care, I would be greatful. Please e-mail me their contact information. My e-mail is [email protected] Thank you!

  24. How about everyone just stay on topi... Oh look, shiny new coin on the ground.
  25. For a goofy looking guy, he's making a pretty good living. I think you're right on the price tag of that service. My recollection is $16,000 for the first service. They wax the under carriage for that price too though so it's worth every penny.
