well it depends.. In car terms 60k to 70k is a muffler or something... so its not a big deal in retrospect the cameras we have been discussing in this thread are pretty much budget (under $1000) As for whether its a hobby or not, good question lastly, a good DSLR can be used for 10 years, and with the right lenses cover all your photography needs if you consider someone who uses P/S's, they probably upgrade every 2 years.. and the typical P/S costs about $200-$300 so, actually, buying a DSLR is a cheaper option!

Guys, thank you all for your replies!! Looks like my best bet is to pick one up locally.. @pericles - I'd like to pick an entry level DSLR, Either a Nikon D40 or Canon's equivalent was considering picking it up via Amazon or newegg, but sadly I don't know anyone coming this way from US right now so I guess my best bet is picking it up via a local shop.. also I guess I'll get a local warranty (donno how good that is) BTW who is the Canon agent in SL? Can someone please give me the phone numbers of those two shops at MC, & canon agent (if that's OK with forum rules)

Hi guys I'm considering upgrading to a decent DSLR does anyone know good local shops with reasonable prices (less than 300% markup ) Also, has anyone tried to import one successfully? How much duty/taxes/etc did you pay? Please help... thanks!!

BTW oil has dropped under $90 bbl http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaki.../breaking13.htm So, I guess the price of oil will be dropped in the next few weeks * sorry I changed the topic.. thought this thread was about that - bummer about the blast *

Actually those two machines are fundamentally different. The e2140 is a slightly modified core 2 duo, whereas the pentiumD is 2 pentium4's glued together. The temperature readings you for these two machines are getting are quite good.

So crude oil price has gone down, and fuel prices are reducing in other countries.. Needless to say, the price will be reduced any day now here in Sri Lanka (j/k)

thermal paste Actually my experiments show that a thermal pad is best for pentiumd/core2. if you cant get one, just buy a whole heatsink with pad.. I think it's thousand something at unity plaza.. get the original intel oem one.. its round shaped with a copper core usually..

http://www.perodua.com.my/index.php?sectio...mp;action=specs http://www.perodua.com.my/download/brochur...va_brochure.pdf based on the +vat thing, the maruti alto may be a better deal, also, it has an existing (somewhat OK) reputation.

65-67 is extremely hot, while 71 is well over thermal spec, at that speed, emergency throttling would be functioning to prevent a fire hazard. can you try the following: 1. take a photo of the inside of the case, showing the cpu fan, etc 2. ensure that the case has good air inflow/outflow - temp inside musn't be much different from outside 3. if you can view the back of the board, you should see the four tiny nibs of the heatsink retainers properly pushed out if the hs is installed right.. if you can, add a pic of that? 4. what is the temp of the heatsink? try touching it (carefully) while hot and see if its very hot to touch. if it is not maybe the cpu isnt contacting properly 5. is the hs fan a good quality one? is it fast?\ the processor you have (pentiumD) is basically two p4 cores together. It uses an extreme amount of energy and runs hot you might consider upgrading the board+CPU to a pentium dual core/core2duo (both use core 2 technology) - c2d would use a lot less electricity, also release a lot less heat (which would reduce the temp of your room) the core2 architecture is significantly faster than p4.. in my tests i've found that a core 2 @ 600mhz is faster than a p4 at 3ghz! I'm not sure of pricing but I guess a new board+cpu would fetch around 12-15k btw I'm getting rid of my old my PC, so (if its OK with you can I list the specs of the old machine here incase anyone wants to buy it? It's quite a nice machine - core2, 2gb ram etc)

Lucky cops! speaking of which, will the vehicles they replace be released into the market? true.. ex cop used = not the best condition but wouldn't mind picking me a 4x4..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-OpIXfXKO8 I heard a rumor that Fox news is shown on local TV. Well, If that's true, here's a good reason why you should not take it too seriously

There's not much to 'tune' in a modern EFI car you can do most of it yourself (replace filters, clean MAF, plugs) the biggest thing you can do is change the wayyou drive - drive more efficiently of course, this is the thing people here find hardest to do ;

never mind fast cars, I'd rather talk efficient cars After all, having an ultra fast car isn;t much help when you don't have roads! speaking of roads, I found a really nice road in Hambanthota (SP) donno what the road was called but it was big, straight, new, and had virtually no traffic. Ideal for some car fun :)

Vehicle Gas Emission Test Compulsory From 15th July
Saturn replied to GihanFX's topic in News & Updates
this will not change anything - people who have polluting vehicles will figure out a way to get by. For example bus drivers will use only diesel on the day of the test (instead of usual diesel/petrol/napalm/nitroglycerine mix) also, lets face it: 90% of pollution is from tuktuk/motorcycles. You think those guys will do anything different? The standard for them will be set low enough to let anyone pass, same for buses etc. The only place where a high standard will be required will be for cars. Which, compared to the other categories of vehicles, emit only 10% of road pollution or less. Summary: one year from now, the pollution levels will be the same, the only difference is govt gets 500 - 1000 extra for each vehicle, and people will have to waste time and money that's all. Thank goodness the people in this country have no shortage of time and money -
yes more of a docu. if you liked that you might like "An Inconvenient truth", Al gore's Academy award/nobel prize winning docu which was on HBO (donno if its still showing) kudos to dialog, they really have some good stuff.., even if the screen goes blank occasionally

Just had a very dismal experience with an insurance co (won't name them but I will say they are black, yellow, and full of poo).. which brings me to the question - what good or bad experiences have you had with insurance co's? My best experience was with SL Insurn*ce who paid promptly and properly. (unlike the other company who reduced the payment a lot so the garage could barely do the job).. this was a few years back and I was wondering what the latest recommendations for insurance are, as I'm considering switching companies.

can you tell me more about these cars? which generation/model? how much km/l city/hwy did they get? From everything I've seen online, tercel is supposed to be more economical than corolla!
