Have you tried fixing a bigger Toyota badge?
  2. I've seen E30s going in your budget range. I even test drove one for a friend. It seemed to have held its condition well. E30 is really a rock-solid car. The seller quoted a mere 7/75 for that one. But I'm no expert, so any hidden problems may have skipped my eye. Here's another example from the classifieds. http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50822 I don't think you should worry much about spares, judging by the number of E30s running in the country. And worst case, you always got eBay to help you out.
  3. Indeed! Over to you mate
  4. The correct tyre pressure is what your car tells you. Not what your friend or your tyre merchant tells you.
  5. Hell no!
  6. Thanks. This is one of my favourites. If I end up collecting cars some day, this model will be part of it
  7. ford focus
  8. Some more to add to your list: Bimmer E30 Corolla Station Wagon (AE97 Series maybe) EP71 Series Starlet How about these ones? http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=53933 http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=52742 On a side note, Wiras have lots in common with Lancers so spares are not really a big problem. Protons handle Sri Lankan roads quite well.
  9. This happened to me once and the culprit was found to be the starter motor. Everytime the car was hot, the pinion kept getting jammed. Since you have a manual tranny, when this happens next time, put the car on 3rd or 4th gear and move the car back and forth. If it works fine after that, then the most likely problem is there. Costs around 1000 bucks for the repair. You have a carb engine, so it could also be a vapour lock. This can be solved by heat shielding the fuel lines. As for battery, if the cold start is ok then the battery is generally ok As for head gasket - you will have dozens of problems if the head gasket is blown. things like misfires, smoke etc. Sensor issue is also unlikely. You probably have a very basic temperature sensor in your car Just giving u a few ideas.
  10. Not sure about that. The cut and polish guy has done a shabby job and has dropped some compound on the corner of windscreen. I didn't notice it for a few days because I wasn't driving that car. When I saw it at first, I thought it was bird poo. Nevertheless, since you are an expert in windscreen related matters, what's the best way to get rid of it (taking both the cases - water based and petroleum based).
  11. Diesel Sportage is not offered by the agent. You can get the diesel Sorento instead. Yes, the basic manual version with 2WD only is 2.9 mill. 4WD version is around 3.3 mill. Sportage is a really bad deal for the permit imho. It's petrol, it's ugly, it's pretty much a car that pretends to be an SUV
  12. Quick question. If there's dried compound on the windscreen, whats the best way to get rid of it, without damaging the windscreen? Will brasso or silvo do? Thanks in advance
  13. Did u actually ask a leasing company? They will tell you. Normally they look for people who have a steady income (more than what the lessee earns).
  14. FYI I joined AL in 2006 but I was more or less inactive till Jan 2011. So I'm virtually a noob here too. Nobody treated me badly, simply cos I didn't ask dumb questions and I didn't say silly things like "I don't wanna buy a Korean ride cos my neighbor told me so". I believe there are many in the forum who has a similar experience.
  15. Few legit finance companies do offer leasing without guarantors, provided you have a good credit record and if you just want like 25% of the value of the car as the lease. For example, I was offered such a lease by C*****l Finance. In addition to that, you can get a lease without guarantors from many banks. However, absolutely no one will provide u with a lease in one day, let alone 1 hour. Not even the famous loan sharks in Sri Lanka. For example, a friend of mine who was an employee of a leasing company himself, had to wait for 2 days to process the lease and release the cheque to the seller.
  16. Yes it's for a simple color restoration job. I already got an angle grinder so I thought I might give it a try. But I was concerned about swirl marks. But it looks like I can end up doing more harm than get a few swirl marks on the body. Need to look for a simple orbital polisher. Any recommendations (apart from KEN)? How about B&D? There's gonna be a B&D power tools sale very soon.
  17. I wonder how people who can't read and understand a 1-page document end up getting permits

lol. It gets confusing if you go the recondition route

  18. Hi Guys, Is it a good idea for a novice to use an angle grinder with a brush attachment for a bit of DIY cut and polish job? How do you avoid swirl marks? Any recommended brands for brush attachments? I don't really need an orbital polisher right now. Thanks in advance PS. This topic has been discussed before but the search didn't give me some of the answers I wanted
  19. Read the permit. It will tell you exactly what you can import. I wonder how people who can't read and understand a 1-page document end up getting permits. FYI you can import any vehicle of upto $25000 CIF value and upto 2400CC engine capacity, up to 1 year old. Discovery 3 doesn't fall under this category.
  20. The vibration on D and R (with the brake pressed) is most likely attributable to bad engine mounts.
  21. Not sure what that statement means but if you are interested in Colombo area, I can recommend Tuan on Nawala-Narahenpita Road. His garage is located on the first bend, as you come from Nawala Road.
  22. Aston Martin DB5 City-11.235km/l Outtason-13.967km/l If you use the ejector seats and oil slick release, City 10.235km/l Outtason 12.467km/l

    Swift 2004

    1. Check the registration book and YOM on the seat belt. 2004 and 2005 are center antenna. Note that in 2005, Swift went for a model change so it's very rare to find a 'jeep model' Swift with YOM 2005. 2. No. I've seen a 2002 Swift with ABS and retracting mirrors. Swift came with varying options. 3. Take a peek under the rear and see if there's a differential. If there is one, then its a 4WD. There are few 4WD Swifts (irrespective of whether they are 2002 or 2004). Majority are 2WD. 4. I have one question for you? What's the obsession with the center antenna?
  24. I suggest not to do anything to drive the paying customers away. After all, that's what pays for the server space and bandwidth and all that. Of course, Peri is the guy to clarify this.
