    A/T would be a better choice as it will give a bit of both worlds (On Road and Off Road). And depending on the amount of driving you anticipate on either type of road, you can go for a On Road biased A/T or a Off Road biased A/T or 50-50 type. No idea about Achilles, but Cooper and Maxxis are good with a better ride quality than GT-Adventuro in my experience.

    I dont think that will make any sense. IMO Its always better to use super (unless your running a lorry or bus) for the long term benefit of a cleaner and less worn out engine (specially if you have used it from inception). Anyway your still paying much less than petrol right ?

    Unless someone is doing it professionally here I dont fancy myself as a guinea pig with the road marking boys... And on the DIY spray part, have seen that special protective gear is used when doing it, so not keen on that option as well. Thanks anyway.

    same here... looks like will be stuck with it for a long long time.... would have been nice though to switch to lining and not worry bout the condensation under the rubber !

    yup, would be interesting to go through the service/repair records of this vehicle (if any are available or he is dumb enough to give it all). Then we can get a good idea of the actual mileage. Even then I would be very wary of the records themselves... never know the lengths our buggers go to. Anyway I prefer not to be too concerned with the odo... rather the condition of the vehicle and records would do.

    IF you are considering diesels, you might be able to get a Corona CT141 (93/94 YOM). Boxy like the trad, tough and bullet proof car... No power steering though

    Mate, if you do a complete overhaul with genuine parts and skilled labour, then you get an engine which is like brand new. So you should be able to get the normal fuel efficiency on this model. Also once the overhaul is done, you have to 'break the engine in' slowly, i'm sure your mechanic will give you the details. best of luck.

    I recollect reading somewhere that VW/Audi share the same engine on some models, but the Audi's appear to be bigger/heavier so that could impact economy vs the VW if that is the case. The LR Tdi engines are also quite economical. Anyway you wont be buying LR/Audi for fuel economy now, would you

    AFAIK TDI stands for Turbo Charged Direct Injection. Its a description of the type of engine. Not the model of the engine. (engine models are like 200Tdi, 300Tdi, 1.9Tdi, 2.4Tdi and so on) For eg. 300Tdi LR and 1.9Tdi VW/Audi engines are entirely different, although they share the same TDI concept.

    Same here, have been using the w#@$h diesel additive for years with no problems at all. But keeping away from engine oil additives as its better to use a good oil and change regularly instead.

    On the subject of pets/pests, I have had a cat sleeping inside the radiator fan cowling ! Good thing I do a early morning oil/water check almost everyday ! otherwise the s#@t would have hit the fan... literally. Another morning yours truly, all bleary eyed and all that, was left wondering who the hell left a mop on the manifold cover until the 'mop' decided to scoot... turned out to be a mongoose !

    No it cant, yours truly was checking out the same scenario bout 5 yrs ago and indika said it could be done but the housing had to be modified.
