  1. Kuhan welcome to the forum What car do you drive? try and get mechanic in Jaffna machan as otherwise you will spend quite a lot on fuel just to come to Colombo to fix things in your car! Do you get a lot of old cars still running there like Austin A40 and Morris Oxfords and Hillmans
  2. Rameez i would not advice you to tamper with ur carb with a liquid cleaner or with a makaa baas as the former working on ur lancer carb is doubtful and the latter breed will tamper and ruin ur carb! Always go to a reputed mechanic who knows ur model well to tune the carb
  3. Im sorry to sound pessimistic dude but the way things are prices coming down is unlikely its pure hell when people quote 1.7 million for a 12 year old high mileage Jap car !!!!
  4. Mate I fully agree with you on this also as I pointed earlier in this thread I too feel that this car is a cut and bud one because a) it has been neatly torn away as if cut by a saw, normally one would have expected a crumpled front side or the engine bay going into the cabin (if it was a frontal crash) Anyway thank God no one died this time!
  5. Why do I feel that this car was a cut and chop car welded together and thats the reason the engine bay is missing (more like that half just got torn neatly)
  6. it does not have the original tail lights would have been better if it was kept original all round
  7. I second that a Mitsubishi Lancer Flat light or tube light will be around 225-325 range great cars and plenty of spares and good re-sale value too alternatively speak to Sumiya on the forum he is into Datsuns which you can buy for ur budget and very economical and good cars
  8. what do you mean never returned?
  9. David Todd is a race driver who owns a garage in Kohuwela and does a lot of work on older cars his garage is good and professional, charges as you can expect from a good place is not that cheap but the work is good he does painting too
  10. what a waste man they can get rid of them to car lover than just keep them there any more pics of those cars there?
  11. I dont wish to scare the OP but a good decent paint job with good quality components and paint (2k) will cost about 120k from a person like David Todd (i think he gurantees against bubbling of paint and all that) before you buy one has to take the costs into account (tinkering might show the need to change rubber beedings and all that too as they would have perished after so may years and will break into pieces when removing the windscreen)
  12. that looks like a a 1980's MGB
  13. oh ok but its very rare to see one on the road who sells parts for them here in SL? those days it was Browns (till late 80's from what ppl told me)
  14. before you go to the 'watte' at panchikawatte to try for 2nd hand parts go to Darley Road and check LP Gunaratne as they have a lot of these stuff for Lancers there is also another shop opposite Nestle' (i cant remember the name) where they had Lancer parts 2nd hand parts at the 'watte' can be your last resort as those chaps quote very high prices according to their mood!
  15. tinkering car now can cost at least 40-50k and painting will set you back by 80k 120k (depending on the place and their skills and past work) but there could eb free lancer fellows who can do it cheaper but it can be a hassle one tip i can give you is if you get a painter then you personally buy the stuff and give them as otherwise they will quote for good quality stuff and but the cheaper verson which will give issues later on (eg:there are cataloy paste in several price ranges )
  16. @ Master Don,well done mate in restoring that car it sure please me when I see a well ket classic on the road BTW,do you know the no of Triumoh Herald Saloons still on the road ,i only see the 3 sri coupe' version at the shows
  17. Please check the engine mounts as it could be the culprit
  18. Hope your joking mate as much as i hate those 3 wheel chaps we as a country cannot afford to ban them as they are the average mans taxi what the Govt should do is monitor those 3 wheel chaps and be strict on road rules but then hey if that happens the sun will rise up in the west ;-)
  19. any chance of you taking a pic of it?
  20. Does anyone know if the following makes of cars are still running in Sri Lanka,i know they were imorted in the 1960's onwards and due to many factors (durability, breakdown, parts etc) became obscure ,I have seen the Lloyd Alexander and Fiat running in late 80's and early 90's but never after that would be great to know if other AL members remember seeing them at one point in time or if they are still running somewhere in SL well here goes the list Moskwitch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskvitch Lloyd Alexander http://en.wikipedia....oyd_(automobile) Trabant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant Fiat 126 (sold here in 1990 as FSM 650) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_126
  21. thank God your safe mate, one of my buddies crashed in last august and was hospitalised for 4 whole weeks and all that ;-(
  22. C12 has better looks and many options which th DX wagon can only dream of like the RPM meter, digital clock, opening the petrol tank cap from inside,5 FWD (some are 4FWD 1.3cc ones which are not popular),better looks and good interior and its a hardy car too contrary to what people say But the DX wagon is quite hardy and rear wheel drive unlike the C12 which is front wheel drive so needs preventive maintenance As mentione by others you realy need to look for corrosion and engine compression before buying either of them C12 cars start from 350 and go till about 450-475 (13-14 sri cars) while the 15-17 series costs anything between 400-60k DX wagons start from 350 and go upto 650 (personaly i wont pay anything more than 500 for a car that old though hope this helps
  23. While many of us (me included) use an alias in AL forums Sylvi has been quite open and shared his details which has to be appriciated,While we may not agree with all his posts there have been quite a few posts where he has been helpful to others in trying to sort out their problems .We have no right to send mails like that which shows intolerance and make Autolanka into a crappy forum like Elaikiri or Lankanewspapers where members abuse each other which will put a 'maallu kade' to shame! @ Sylvi,I suggest you block that email address and if it continues change your email address and dont share it on the AL forum
