Hi all, I sold my Peugeot 406 a couple on months ago and was on the look out for either a VW passat, Audi A4. Last Saturday I came across a Skoda Superb and it looked... Superb :D I don't know much about this car exept skoda is owned by VW and it's engine and most stuff is shared with the passat B5. If any one has owned or driven this car please share your experiences.

IMO you should opt for a Passat over the Skoda.... It maybe the same vehicle in many terms, but the Passat is better known in the market and would hold its value over the latter.

There was an immaculate B5.5 with 35k on the clock few weekends back. Check the sunday times

yaa correct i saw it on Saturday and it was also advertised on on sunday hit add

I might be a potential buyer for that car if it checks out to be good. I heard that there are only a hand full of Skoda Superb's in LK.. i welcome the uniqueness, but does anyone have an idea of the spare parts availability ?

a lot of stuff would be shared with Passat, but some body parts could be hard to find; however, as senok deals with both VW and Skoda, parts @ agent price should be available or importable :)

my experience with Citroen vs. Peugeot is that while many non-body parts are shared, some stuff is different - e.g. the fuel pump for my citroen never came on a pug, even though they had the same engine! the brake discs are the same but the calipers are different (wasn't trying to buy calipers, but the caliper repair kit was also different). in practice hasn't proved to be much of a problem, as I prefer to source stuff from UK anyway (cheaper)

so to be really sure you'll have to talk to someone who's owned a superb for a while (and is not trying to sell you his car!)

and there was a Superb at a car sale in Etul Kotte (was just driving past and saw it, called to get some details cos a friend is looking for a car) - they were asking 1.9 for single-owner 1.8 manual which seems rather on the high side.

A friend of mine has one and he swears by it. It is claimed that the Superb rear leg room rivals that of a 747 Economy class seat. I have been in it and it really is a class apart. Mind you he had a A6 before he switched. He was forcing me to by one that was for sale sometime back but the attraction of the BMW was far greater.

By all means go for it if the price is right for you. If it breaks, (Like all cars do) VW/Audi parts are available in SL.

@sifaan. I believe that skoda you are talking about has been for sale for atleaan year. Makes me curious about the market...

yikes... can't say I'm surprised he hasn't been able to move it if he's been asking for 1.9 (or more) all this time!

probably got it at a firesale price and he's willing to hold on for so long because one day when he sells it he's gonna make a killing!

Don't buy it. Some old uncle like me will have one too many any dig out the old Skoda jokes and you'll get upset saying that actually it's a good car and that although the Czech Republic are not known for their cars, it's almost like buying a VW and then old uncle will say "aiyoo putha what do you call a skoda driver who says he has a speeding ticket?" and then you'll innocently say "er... dunno, aren't they all the same?" and then he'll say "no, you'd call him a dreamer, I say putha I haven't told that one in a long time!" Then punches will be exchanged and then that'll be the end of old uncle. Better you skip all that heartache and go for something else. Unless you didn't like your old uncles anyway.

Now we've gone and done it...........

What do you call a Skoda driver who say's he got a speeding ticket ?

A Dreamer

What do you call a Skoda at the the top of a hill ?

A miracle.

Why did the Skoda cross the road?

It was supposed to be going straight along the street but then the steering broke.

How do you make a policeman laugh?

Tell him your Skoda has been stolen.

How do you double the price of a Skoda?

Fill the tank with petrol.

.......so sorry. Gotta go and buy a Lada.

I originally heard the doubling value joke as a Lada :)

Anyway such jokes are common with eastern european brands from communism times; Skoda has been fully owned by VW since 2000 (and they had a stake since the fall of communism) so it's a different story now.

@Rattler - see if VVTi can help you get in touch with his friend...

Will do, judging by the fact not a single skoda owner showed up, i guess the car is pretty rare. Senok did say they brought down only 50 or so skoda's from 2000 to 2008, that lot includes the superb, octavia and some other car.

I think for the price you are willing to pay, u r better of looking for a well maintained passat as previously mentioned. It essentially is the same car as the superb, but with more positives. Also, uniqueness isn't always desirable. It might come back and bite u in the back

yeah, even though it is different, it is an "entry" brand for VW, so unless you need the extra 10cm compare to the passat (e.g. for a chauffeured vehicle) a superb would make sense only if it was noticeable cheaper than a similar condition passat.

when car hunting I met a Passat fan who was selling his car (it was his 3rd passat or something) and he had already bought a Skoda because he couldn't afford a post-2003 Passat (because of the tax hikes then or sth).
