Exhaust Sensor

I see the Oxygen Sensor in the Exhaust manifold. and there is a secondary sensor connected to the exhaust pipe (about 2 feet from the manifold). what is this sensor? is it yet another O2 sensor? whats the purpose of this? if anyone knows about this configuration and technical details please comment.

Im not an expert, but AFAIK in modern boosted motors are eqvipped with 2 O2 sensors (Primary & secondary) generally primary O2 sensor is connected to the exhaust system before the cat converter & the secondary O2 sensor is connected directly into the cat converter. What's your car btw?

It's a Daihatsu Mira L700. thanks for the reply.

The second sensor is to monitor the function of the catalytic converter. It is there to see if the cat is doing the job it is supposed to do and report back to the ECU.
