Won't Start Without Accelerator Pressed

NRX

Recommended Posts

I bought my first ever car yesterday ( Thanking everyone on this forum who helped me :) )and I'm happy about it apart from few niggles. The car in question is a 1994 Brandnew FB13 (GA14DS engine) with a carburetor of course

Please help me to understand these issues.

1. The car will not easily start if the accelerator isn't fully pressed, (Sometimes I can hear a "creaaassss" sound when this happens. and the engine sound won't come, sounds like just the motor ). when the accelerator is fully pressed it will start from the first or 2nd try.

** The previous owner says he has tuned the carburetor for better fuel economy, is there any correlation between these two ??

** And he hasn't attended to the battery for the past 6 months :)

2. a "krrrrrrrrrr" sound when the Engine idles + AC switched on, it goes away when the engine revs or the AC is switched off.

** Idle RPM is 810 according to the emission test ( Done a month ago)

I'm really worried about these issues and my parents too :(

Please shed some light, Thanks in advance

Hi NRX

1. You need to increase Float level of Carburetor a little up and set timing accordingly.that will probably sort out your starting issue, The reason is carburetor fuel bowl become empty while you idle the car,Reasons could be time or a unseen leak or evaporation. while you hold the gas paddle down it will fill with fuel then it starts.

2 .Most probably the Air Compressor razor is worn and you need to replace it.

thanks

starting problem might be due to a carb issue. shouldn't be a big issue to fix at all. I think a few chaps were discussing carb experts a few days back. worth a shot revisiting one of those theads and get a contact.

The ceass sound can be a loose/worn starter motor belt.

if it's a loose belt issue, your starting problem might be related to that too...

The idling sound issue can be many things. best to pop the hood up and try and narrow down where it comes from. Can be anything from a bad/loose belt or a shot pulley bearing.

I would get all the belts inspected, change all the fluids (brakes, gear, engine, power steering) check and replace water hoses and stuff.

1)Accelarator fully pressed to start - not a big issue, even i have done my car in such a way in order to increase fuel consumption. If u really want a one shot start, its just an adjustment to the floater

2)creaaassss noise - not very much clear what u mean...........assumption starter motor repair

3)drop little bit of water to the a/c belt n c if okay its the A/c belt.......if not a/c razor

yep...compressor is coupled via a pulley and a belt to the engine... why dont you take the car to a good mechanic.

Yes, I intend to, Bought the car yesterday and not exactly in a mood to ruin parents 'Happy' mood yet :sport-smiley-004:
