I have driven both and for your review

Montero Sport(Diesel)

- good to drive

- looks good

- its a real SUV

- pick up gets very god after 1st & 2nd service

- dual a/c

- standard options

- Should have good resale value

- Spacious

- fuel efficiency good 8-12 km/l

- Good on bad roads and off roading

Kia Sorento(Diesel)

- Very good driving pleasure

- fully loaded options

- amazing pick up

- compact jeep

- fuel efficiency 6-9km/l

- Not good on bad roads and off roading

All in all both jeeps are good! Both vehicles are evenly poised.. They have there own strengths and weaknesses...

Which won would you like to own and reasons???

To give my own input on the checklist above:

Kia Sorento (Diesel) - as a user

Kia Sorento(Diesel) 2.2 Auto

- Very good driving pleasure

- fully loaded options

- Very good pickup for a vehicle its size

- compact jeep

- fuel efficiency 9-10 km/l (Colombo) (10 - 14kmpl Outstation)

- Holds up on bad roads, suspension is bit stiff, hill climbs are effortless, but not built for the purpose of offroading.

Can't comment on the Montero as I have only been a passenger (was fairly comfortable), but it looks better to me than any Prado

The Montero Sport is built on the double cab , so durability wise it maybe better than the Sorento. Also its got a lot more ground clearance than the Sorento so I would pick the Sport....

But why not just buy the double cab which is cheaper?

The new montero sport is bult in Thailand unlike the previous one (pre 2008) which came from Japan.

So as it is not made in the main company it is Thailand although it's Mitsubishi.

So now it's better to go for a genuine Korean vehicle like the sorrento.

And considering that our 2008 santafe does about 16km per liter in long distances I don't think the sorrento does only 6-9km/L

But our one is a 4wd manual don't know about the autos

The Sorento is not a compact SUV by any means. It's a pretty decent 7 seater with more space inside than a rexton. Most of these vehicles will spend most part if not their whole lives on well paved asphalt. Therefore the Sorento seems the better bet. The fact that the sorento does not ride on a ladder frame chasis should make it lighter and therefore more economical than the Mitsubishi as well. You can't even begin to compare the difference in features between the two.

To be honest the interior of the Montero Sport still resembles that of a 64- pajero intercooler. On the outside it looks like an L200 Sportero with a carryboy.Times certainly have moved on. Come to think of it, considering the fact that hacked examples of those 64- pajeros still selling for 5 mil plus, it's no wonder that United M****s has sold over 2500 of these vehicles. Just the fact that it has the Montero badge on it will assure it a good sales success and 2nd hand market here.

For me, I'd take the Sorento over it any day.

I would, but the comparison is between the 2 Station Wagons.
