I recently got a front left outer CV boot and front right rack boot replaced in my car. After driving for few Kms I felt that the steering is somewhat tighter than it was before. It can be felt when taking turns and slight bends.

What could be the reason ?

P.S :The mechanic is apparently celebrating awurudu and hasn't returned to the workshop yet :S

Some mechanics tightens up the rack a bit when they do related repairs, if the rack is worn may be your one did that. Not sure of that on EPS systems.

If the fluid level is very low you'll hear the pump groaning when loaded :)

Is this an EPS car or a hydraulic power steering car ?

i think he is talking about his fb13 if so it's hydraulic power steering bro. :)

It's Hydraulic power steering :)

vintage FB13. Fluid is at the correct level :) No noise or such, just the tightness

I assume you mean by no noise that there is no clicking noise when you turn, you know the sort of noise that goes "click" and comes again after you turn the steering about another 1/4th of a rotation ?

So assuming that there was no such issue before the repair im gonna take a guess and say its probably something with the PS belt, probably the someone messed around with the belt tensioners and might have gotten it loose. Id say wait till the buggers come back from "awurudu" and pay them a little visit and get the belt and tensioners checked :)

BTW Stig, I had the exact clicking noise you mentioned even before the repair. What causes such noise ? I hear it as it comes from the steering wheel itself, not from the CV :)

If it sounds like the one that come when you activate the indicator stalk its nothing major, some vehicles make this noise naturally. But if the click is more like a "creek" its probably a weak power steering pump or wheel bearings. Any chance your pump might have given out ?

No machang, it sounds like a mouse click. It's the only noise the steering makes as I feel :)
