I have a corolla 121 yom 2000 and i am looking forward to fix it a new dvd player between 30-35k with a reverse cam.Plz inform me about a good brand as one of my frnd fixed a direct fit head unit to his Axio from Pet#o and it lacks bass.but another frnd also fixed a chinese dvd player to his allion 240 and it has the bass like a subwoofer!!!so plz let me know about a good sound system and a illuminated scuff plate set for it at low cost>>

Your opinions will be very valuable for me!!!

bass output depends also on the kinda speakers you're running. Pet#o does a pretty good job at installations and are more than capable of giving you good advice in what sorta setup to run. i'd say it's best you talk to them, explain that you need good bass delivery and then take things from there. Gilbert too does a good job and stock DLS speakers. Great stuff but they dont come cheap

I fixed a chinese setup about two years ago on to my allion. Not happy with the quality at all. The touch sensitivity has gotten really bad and the volume knob has gone all bonkers. It costed me around 50k at Pet#o at that time.

My advise is to try and stick to a reputed brand if budget permits. Ebay has a few good deals running on some kenwood and pioneer double din systems. Would be a good option if you can get one fixed here without a hassle.

The issue with bass can be easily overcome with the equalizer in a good had unit, but sometimes these chinese units dont even allow for custom EQ's and even if they do bass sounds distorted since the RMS output of them are relatively low (note sometimes they might have high RMS written on them but most of the time those are not actual figures). Well as for the "where to buy part" i think ripper has answered the question.

But i can tell you what to do if you still feel it lacks bass, the first thing is to set up your EQ. Generally in something like a 5 band or a 7 band eq you get in a car the 1st,2nd and 3rd are the ones allocated to bass; the mids (the voice and instrumental part) is in the middle 2 controllers and the highs (the treble) is to the furthest right in the controls.

If you dont have a custom EQ's not to worry there is a solution, get one of these [http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=car+equalizer], i got a friend who runs one of these with a chinese unit and it works like a charm :alc:

EQ is just one bit in the whole equation. If you have a bad headunit that gives out crappy audio, no EQ can save it for you.

Also having a great headunit, finely setup EQ, crossovers etc and not having good speakers will still give you poor audio.

Everything in that setup has to be of good quality.

A good headunit, proper wiring with quality wires, properly setup audio settings including EQ, Crossovers when needed and good speakers all are a must if you want great audio.

Also powering speakers straight off the headunit will NEVER give you max potential of your system. You'd need a dedicated amplifier.

Most headunits can only pump around 50rms per channel into 4 channels. Which is nothing much considering you do get distortion at high volume. Usable RMS value will be less than the advertised RMS

Then comes properly positioning the speakers, managing the front stage - rear stage etc, having sound proofing, dampening so panels dont vibrate...

Simply it's a long winding road if you want perfection :D

Mate, whats the tax % for electronic items like car dvd players when it comes to clearing them from customs? i too keen to buy through ebay but because of the ignorance about tax amount im bit relactant to buy one. Any info regarding this is really helpful!

Honestly i dont see any price difference from ebay, actually when i was on the look out for a head unit i actually found that some local places sell the same product for much less if you count in the shipping+tax. Since you wont get a warranty for ebay stuff anyways you could try your luck from petta and darley road, be warned though there are copies of originals out there.

thnx for ur ideas.what about a scuff plate set???

Darley road for sure, most of the shops towards the end part (gamini hall) will have these

If you read the previous posts you will know that the purchasing from ebay is not going to be the best option (Taxes, warrenty problem, not compatible devices)
