0 Fixzit
As a rule of thumb. . A timing belt must be changed every 100,000kms unless the manufacturer specified otherwise.
0 CJ5
Are you sure the Swift has a timing belt and not a timing chain????? The Suzuki Alto (Jap) does not have a timing belt it has a timing chain which does not need periodic replacement. I am not sure if the Swift is the same but reckon it might be so . Check, it may be why there is no mention of a timing belt change in the manual. Edited June 23, 2013 by CJ5
0 Crosswind
VXi is an Indian Swift. It's got a Maruti-made engine (K12), which is is different from what you find in Japanese Swifts. You need to refer to the user manual to find out whether it's got a timing belt or chain. Read the whole manual, not just the service information. If its got a timing belt, no harm in changing it at 80000.

A look under the bonnet will also reveal the fact. A timing belt is housed in the plastic casing, which is usually black in color and roundish at the top, near the V-belts. The timing chain is housed inside the engine and so there is no plastic cover on the outside near the V-belts, as in a vehicle having a timing belt.
