I am planning to buy a Nissan D21 double cab. My budget is around 15laks.

Appreciate if you can give me details of this model (body type, engine.. etc.)

Heard this comes with turbo and non turbo, is there any known issues with this model?

Two types of bodies

1) Basic square shape 88 to 92

2) Embossed body - 1992 upwards from what i remember

Both body types came with basic option or the full option.

Avoid new body fitted specimens unless you are ok with the risk associated with buying such a vehicle.

Unless taken care of well you are bound to see corrosion or shoddy jobs done to make it look clean. Chassis where the rear differential is set should be checked for cracks and the rest of any rust. Also check for water leaks from the front windscreen usually this problem would lead to rusted floor boards. Underneath the door sills and the doors are also prone for rust.

Stick to the TD27 engine or the TD27T earlier models carried the TD23 and TD25 engines. Usually the engine and gearbox is rock solid my last d21 with a SD25 engine had done 525,000 never missed a beat or failed an emission test. Make sure the oil is flushed and filters changed at the usual intervals and it should run fine. Do the basic test when testing the engine and you should be fine. Not quite thorough in checking the turbo so ill leave it for some one else who knows about it. Check the radiator to see if gaskets need replacing and the quality of oil and when it was last changed. You should be able to get a decent idea of the engine condition. Also check if the power steering is whining when making a full turn might be that the pump needs to be replaced or the owner had replaced the hoses with lower grade quality.
