Well as per experience,

Very hardy vehicle; both the older 80-90s model and the 2000s models,

I'll elaborate on the 2000s (65-) models

First and foremost take care with body permit vehicles and the cut bud / tampered vehicles with forged documents with possible Isuzu Gemini registrations etc,

or else Cops are gonna have a ball in every checkpoint

The 4JX1 is a bit troublesome and the 4JG2 engine is bullet proof, personally I prefer the 4JG2, try to get a manual, make sure the Aircon works thoroughly as bits are expensive and getting rarer, but don't expect common rail performance, on the upside it can handle normal diesel

Not a fan of the handling as it is rather disconnected from the road and feels bulky, poor turning circle. There are lotus equipped / badged versions claiming to be better but i'm yet to drive one. Ride is rather comfortable, don't expect car-like though

As for options all are pretty much the same as the average period SUV, try to get the model with the newer curved dashboard.

Maintenance and parts cost land on the mild to moderate line, depends if one is buying premium bits or cheaper alternatives

fuel consumption lands in the 8-10ish (kmpl) range / yet highly variable

I'm sure others will add more, all the best

Thanks tiv for quick info.

I could not have considerable time to get the hands on experience yet. According to few regular users the one is much comfortable than any other regular jeep such as Pajero, cruiser etc. I need to find more on that after going through your comments.

When it comes to Engine types, your info on 4JG2 is value for me. I guess its coming with facelift and need to have an idea on cost as well. Going through e commerce webs including AL shows 3.2 - 4.8 Mn price variation which is really confusing.

I was thinking of Cruiser (Box) 1kz earlier and consulting few users preferred to go with Bighorn. Seems like more and more real rides has to be done before buying one.

Thanks for your time tiv. Hope to see some more info from experts.

Hello PrassanDs

Before start this i have to tell you this, i am NOT sure about the market in SL BUT i am giving the below details from my experience as a owner.

Currently i am using my 5th Bighorn and i love the truck, lots of grunt from legendary 4JG2 engine (3050cc) with intercool Turbo, very good for towing, 4WD and carry passengers. Now i am using 1994 irmscher which is design for 4WD than touring while Lotus Edition is more focus on cruising.

Bighorn/ Trooper UBS55 with 2.8 4JB1 inercool engine which is my favorite but it too old now, UBS69 with 4GJ2 and after 1996 its with s*itty 4JX1 engine which gives more issues than anything else. As i heard injectors operates with the help of oil pressure and need to use specific oil. (never bother find more details)

Factory irmscher come with Recaro interiors, Stabi control to engage/ dis engage sway bar for more suspension movement when 4wd, No side steps, no door visors or mud flaps (I had to put), and most of them are Manual gears

Lotus edition is more comfortable than the other versions if the suspensions are in good order, and nice to drive long distance (No body pain even after 1000km in 1 day) But on Irmscher you need to drink some Venival gata :sarcastic_hand:

compared to the Landcruiser LJ 78/79 bighorn is less body rolling but with Pajero Exceed its not even near. economical to drive (Auto 4th gear chage @ the speed of 60km)

just the usual oil change and filter change. "fingers crossed"

Forget to tell you one more

- Please check the sticker under the bonnet next to the wiper motor (black sticker from isuzu) and this should tell you most of the details about the truck. just take a snap and all the codes will explain the options

Dear JC

Thank you so much for the input. I believe this thread is rich with information for any one who is willing to have a bighorn.

Did search for few adds in AL and Ik*** too. Few calls were made and majority of vehicles are Body permits and others are heavily over priced. Most hilarious thing is , majority of the owners do not wish to expose the basic details of vehicle such as engine type / model etc.

I wonder they purposely hiding info or simply do not know what they are driving !
