Sound Comes From Abs Unit When Very Slow Speeds L

asanka_rg

Question

Hi friends,

I'm experiencing some sound from ABS unit.it comes only at very low speeds applying breaks. It's like pedal stuck and go down. Mechanic says it's the ABS pump. Indication light for ABS is on for sometimes and goes off before sound comes. Now no light and but this sound. Please advice me what is the cheapest fix. Can we repair the ABS PUMP. How much to replace. Where can I buy. My car is Chevrolet cruze. I'm from Avissawella

Yes of course that's the sound. You got it. So how u fix it

Actually I'm still having that sound and my car is a Nissan TIIDA 2008. I can join with your thread instead of opening separate thread for this problem :)

Let's wait and see the ideas from AL experts :smilie_liebe9:

For the ABS to kick in at "very low speeds" as you say, one or more of the wheel speed sensors must be sending the wrong signal to ECU/ABS control unit. Perhaps you may have a stored fault code if you do a scan but the most logical and simple thing to do first is to remove and clean the speed sensors. Over time, speed sensors gather dust, metal shavings, road grime etc and tend to lose their sensitivity. I don't know if the rear wheel sensors are accessible for cleaning in your case but the front ones can be cleaned for sure. If the rear ones are sealed then they are unlikely to gather dust. Also test your ABS by braking hard on a gravel road or an open ground (take necessary precautions) and see if it is working and not throwing a fault code.

actually, I got the ABS light on for while and it turned off. This happened several times. So I get the front sensors cleaned and ultimately this sound comes at very low speeds. then mechanic says it's the ABS rotor issue. is that right and will that fix the problem. ??? :speechless-smiley-004:

Before you turn attention to the ABS pump you should ensure that all your wheel sensors are OK. Drive very slowly but at a steady speed for about 3 minutes on a flat ground or an empty road without using brakes (easily said than done cos' you have to find a flat ground or a flat and empty stretch of a road) and see if you get an ABS fault. If so, get the ECU scanned and see what the fault code is and sort out if it is one of the wheel sensors. Logic behind the above reasoning is that you should not get your ABS activated at low speeds unless you apply brakes suddenly on a gravel/sandy/very slippery road. I do not dispute mechanic's claim but first ensure that it is not due to wrong signal from a wheel sensor.

I really thank for your advice and I will do it as you say. I should say this sound even comes without pressing the brake at low speeds. but the ABS light remains off. According to your experiment i should get a light on ABS driving 3 mins very slowly?? if the issue is with the sensors right?
