Exchanging is good. but you must really have a very thorough understanding of the realistic/market value of the car your trading. Same thing goes for the new one your taking on as you can never be 100% sure which of the two parties involved would make the profit! Sometimes they both do. There are other reasons as well- you maybe hell-bent on getting that new car and maybe willing to take on a slight loss- like I was a few years back touch wood it was worth it.
