You might get a 300 - 301 - 1.6 ltr Vitara or an old Rav for that amount..... if you're very lucky. If you can up the budget a bit it would help. Im not sure of your needs but the TATA or Mahindra single cab would be a good buy at 1 mil all up. Edited April 26, 2007 by Dominic

If you can call it an SUV, you can get a brand new Maruti Gypsy for this price! Edited April 26, 2007 by madmax

I was looking for an off-roader two years ago. My budget was a bit lower than that, but considering the price changes, what you can buy is in the same range. I had three options in my list: 1. Suzuki Jimny - second hand 2. Daihatsu Terios / Toyota Camy - second hand 3. Maruti Jipsy - brand new You also have options like buying a made up BJ40 or an old Mitsubishi jeep - or to buy one cheep and make it up yourself. I didn't go down that path. I went for the Jimny. Jimny is a serious off-roader, and no compromises made by Suzuki to make it too tarmac friendly. It's not bad on the road, but not as good as a car (obviously). However, it's way better than any old Jeep like BJ40 or a Mitsubishi when it comes to road handling. However, when pushed to perform, it can also be used as a road racer in the city, which we do daily. ;-) Outstation is a different story, as it is not very stable over 100kmph. I know of few motor enthusiasts who have said a lot of good things about the Terrios's on-road handling. I checked up one for about 1.8 few months back for a friend - which was better than average with some extra options. The downside of the Terrios is that it is not as hardy as the Jimny. The only Maruti Jipsy I checked was at the dealer showroom, and didn't like it because it didn't have power steering, factory fitted AC. There is a detachable hard top, though. miniace
A choice of a Pajero Mini is good! Price range is frim 1.3 to 1.8M now.Parts are cheaply available and economical too. A BN Maruti Gypsy is 1.95M now.guess that's out of your buget range.

miniace
honestly, Mini Pajero owners never want to sell their machines...they simply fall in love with them for many reasons..starting from fuel economy..Im a victim too try your luck!!

miniace
Its common to 650 & 1000 owners. The reason for non availability is reluctant to sell machan!!

A 300 should be around 1.3 or less. If your budget is around 1.5 or above my opinion is to go for a Jimny. I recently bought one for 1.6 its a 2003 H series brand new auto. Vehichle is really good and handles well and a very good offroad vehicle. I think it stands out from the rest of the range. Only concern I have is the fuel economy as its a auto it does only 6.5 Kms per lt. This is with 95 Octain as well. I got new plugs and injectors tested also tuned with agrent but still the same. Heard the manual does around 10. So apart from the fuel economy my choice is the Jimny. The Junior does not sell very so its a buyers market so bargain if you really feel the vehicle is worth it. Repairs etc will be more complicated and costly if its a inter cooler turbo type.
