It seems there is huge marketing bang on the Chery QQ at the moment. And there are lot of offers and packages going on.

However, how do you guys rate this car in the aspect of performance, value for money, after-sale service and running cost?

Further, there are some shaky crash test results on Chery QQ on the Internet. What do you think about these tests and its applicability in SL?

when you say "performance", exactly what are you reffering to?

As far as technology used is concerned I feel there's not much of a difference when compared to a Maruti. the issue is that the car is new to Sri Lanka.

I know of a person using one as a second car. they don't do much running (may be about 500 - 600 kms per month).

they are very happy with it. their argument is that it's worth the money they paid. every thing just works. nothing very glamorous about it but it does the job.

you got to understand one thing when you are buying a car of this caliber. it is not meant for performance driving. you got to use it carefully. it's got a small engine so it can not handle high speeds-- etc.

if you use it keeping things like that in mind .... well It would give you good service

"Chery QQ is going to be assembled in Sri Lanka. Although it cannot be compared to the Maruti 800, which is only semi option and is cheaper by about SLRs 200,000, Chery QQ's buyers belong to the same socio-economic class as the buyers of Maruti 800, and these could gone in for it. Chery QQ to be assembled locally

By Marianne David

Popular compact car Chery QQ will be assembled in Sri Lanka in the near future, following the recent signing of an agreement between David Pieris Motor Company (DPMC) and Chery Automobile Company, China, industry sources said.

The agreement entails the establishing of a factory in Hambantota in the next few months in order to assemble the cars locally, with a target of assembling 500 cars a year at the initial stage.

The agreement was signed during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s state visit to China recently where many trade and investment projects were discussed in order to bring in investment to Sri Lanka. David Pieris and Company was also represented in the business delegation that accompanied the President.

DPMC is presently the importer of Chery QQ cars on a ‘completely built unit’ basis.

DPMC was also among top performers at the 2006 Chery International Business Conference held in Beijing, China in November, where it bagged the ‘Best Service’ award. The conference included participants from over 60 countries from Eastern Europe, Asia Pacific, Central and South America, the Middle East and Africa. The most outstanding Chery dealerships in these regions were rewarded in three categories, namely, Best Service, Most Cooperative and Best Sales.

The Chery QQ was added to DPMC’s range of products in December 2005, and is manufactured in China by Chery Automobile Company, which was founded in 1997.

The Chery QQ was recently awarded with the number one position following a quality study that was carried out for compact cars in China. In 2006, Chery accomplished a total global sales volume of 305,236, ranking top four in the passenger car industry. So far, Chery has become China’s first independent brand with an annual sales volume of 300,000 passenger cars.

Don't need in talking about DPMC. Over the last years of operation all they has done was importing vehicles which is not a single penny support for the countries economy. So all the meddles they got were useless.

(This is not against your post my friend Yasith )

I think the Chevrolet Spark is in the same range of the Chery and the Maruti 800. It comes with a 800 and 1000cc engine.

I saw an ad in the newspaper a few months ago that a motor company down Darly road were the agents for Chevrolet (coming for South Korea) . I have a Spark and find it to be a good vehicle to get around the city. I have not driven it on long distances or on out of city roads so I cannot say how it fares out there. Its economical, comfortable and has enough leg room at the back too. I found it to be more spacious than the Maruti and better handling too.

I would like to know how much the Chevy Spark costs in SL and if any of you have driven it on our local roads how did it fare?

Despite the claims of the Chery QQ been assembling in Sri Lanka, nothing has materialized so far, according to the DPMC showroom folks.

BTW the Chevys are coming from India not Korea!

Fiat will be using Chery engines for Fiats produced in China & eventully could be used for the Italins as well! For the moment the deal is 100,000 engines for a year.

any idea OR comments about the 0.8 L SQR372 I3 DOHC 12v — 38 kW (51 hp) at 6000 rpm, 70 N·m (52 ft·lbf) at 3500 rpm Engine used in Chery QQ?

There is nothing you can expect from a 800cc engine rather than economy. Any idea on the weight of the car??

It seems you r in very interesting to buy Cherry QQ. I am personally not like to Cherry QQ. Because its not comfortable. I have seen new Cherry QQ model with trip tronic gear box also. So if u feel more interest u buy Cherry QQ. But remember there is no good second hand market to cherry QQ than Alto. Running cost also equal to normal Japanese vehicle. 11 kmpl in Colombo I think Alto one has more kmpl than this. Anyway if u r planning to spend more than 1m on a car try to think about used good condition Japanese car. It’s not difficult to find good condition car these days. (Because permit has arrived.)
