Colombo, 14 November, (Asiantribune.com): A China made four seater electric

car - Electricia - will roam on local roads within this year. Ecowheels

Private Ltd, an associate company of Weightech has made arrangements to

import this Plug and Run , No Fuel Car.

Mr.Nissanka Ediriwira , Chairman of Ecowheels says the Ministry of

Environment has shown a green light to provide concessions and the company

hopes to display this 'City Commuter Car at the Ceylon Motor Show which is

to be held on the 30 th of this month at the BMICH, Colombo .

According to the manufacturers this car does not need liquid fuel, oil or

other expensive spare parts.T his car manufactured in China with the

Japanese technology includes modern features comforts and a 3000 Watt

Motor.

"If charged for seven hours the car will take you 110 kilometers running

distance, he said.

After my proposal on using economic benifits of the electric car the

President appointed a committee headed by Dr.A.G.T.Sugathapala , Head of

the Mechanical Engineering , University of Moratuwa to obtain a detailed

report, which clearly recommended electric cars.

According to Dr.Sugathapala's report , in Sri Lanka the vehicle population

has increased by ten fold during last 30 years .It assists the degradation

of air quality specially in the urban sector. Dr.Sugathapala proposes that

electric vehicles could safe guard the environment .Electric vehicles do

not undergo any combustion process ..Mechanical power is directly derived

from electricity .According to the report the electric cars has no tailpipe

emissions , less maintenance , less spare parts , less noise while in

operation and totally eco friendly.

"I want to make some contribution to save foreign exchange to the country

after the introduction of this "green car ".The government has moved to

impose a green tax to protect the environment in it's effort to reduce

Fossil fuel usage in Sri Lanka.At present the government charges 28% duty +

other taxes on this car.

I have made an appeal to the government to reduce these levies.

Mr.Ediriwira said the first Electricia will reach Sri Lanka on 21 of this

month and it costs 1.4 million rupees with current taxes.

"I want to leave some thing to my country. as the first businessman to

bring this four seater -Fiber glass body Electric car to Sri Lanka , thus

helping to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and reduce air pollution.

He said the running cost per kilometer is very low around one rupee.

Mr.Ediriwira was a senior Flt.Lt.of the Royal Ceylon Air Force and later

became an entrepreneur after acquisition of the ownership of Avery in Sri

Lanka .

Now he represents the world's largest state of - the- art electronic scale

manufacturers Metter Toledo. He has been in the weighing industry for over

40 years.

but nothing is mentioned on how much electricy consumption when charging. It should be definitely equal/less than the fuel cost required to travel 110km.
