Vehicle Import - Personally Or Through Car Sale

MAS

Recommended Posts

there aren't any changers to fees or taxes weather you bring one yourself or through a car sale.

if you bring it down yourself and if you don;t have a VAT registration number then you wont be able yo exempt the value of the VAT when leasing the vehicle. i'm not 100% sure on this you may wana double check with a leasing company.

Is importing a vehicle under one's name cheaper than importing through a car sale name ?

Does VAT have to do something with this ?

Hope someone could advice to get a clear picture.

Thanks.

It will be a little cheaper since you wont have to pay for any profit margins of a car sale. But obviously you will not be able to personally examine the car and also there may be issues when doing the paper work at the harbour and you might end up paying more than you would have at a car sale.

Well for the VAT issue, i think they issue a temporary VAT number on your PAYE tax or your tax file and then you need to give it to customs. Not sure about how leasing companies deals with that temporary VAT thing.
