1-- pump a full tank of petrol

2-- reset the trip meter

3-- run the car as you normally would

4-- wait till your next re-fueling maybe 1/2 tank or 1/4 tank

5-- see how much petrol you pump in (quantity)

6-- read the trip meter (distance)

fuel efficiency = distance/quantity of petrol pumped

:P

edit: is this your first car?

Also better if you can refil up to the same level and car should be in the same elevation. (Because some pumpers are stopping when the auto trigger of the hose poped up)

You have to repeat this process from different filling stations and get a average because we never know pumps are accurate and the driving pattern also different. :)

yep, do it a couple of time to get a average, also better let it run for as much as possible before refilling. this will make the slight differences you encounter as a result of filling up in different elevations, negligible :-)
