Dear experts,

My wife's starlet car's Malfunction indicator lamp started blinking couple of weeks back. Now it flash and never go off eternally. My questions are,

1. Is it ok if the car runs with the indicating lamp on?

2. Is it possible for me to disconnect the catalyct converter senser connection and run?

3. If not what is the solution?

regards,

jaga

Assume you are referring to the below. If so take it for a diagnostic check asap. Preferably Toyota lanka.

They will tell you exactly what the fault is.

The lamp has come up to tell you that the after cat oxygen sensor is malfunctioning.

This could be because of

1. The wire to the sensor is broken

2. The sensor has failed

3. There is water inside the exhaust system or something like that

4. The catalytic converter is no longer in operational condition

It is perfectly safe to operate the car with this lamp on and it should not affect any other functions of the car. This particular sensor is there to manage emission control and as such not very relevant in SL which does not have emission laws. It might become relevant if the proposed new emission laws come in to being, but even then I don't think this sensor would make much of a difference as most catalytic converters in SL vehicles have probably gone bust a long time ago due to leaded fuel ! (I know its unleaded now but its still famous for its impurities).

If you want the problem sorted take the car to a place like Elcardo, lift the car up and inspect the problem. They should be able to take the sensor off for you so you can find a replacement.

Or optionally you can take the car to a competent mechanic or the agents who can do the same.
