I like the sound of it could it be one of those little hoses/pipes that fit close to your head in track racing... but there the driver cant afford to take his hands off the steering.... i'm sure offroading isnt THAT fats-paced! Its the torque of the engine that matters. I know that the Nissan TD27 engine is not an engine that will pull off the traffic lights the quickest, but it will get you out of any sticky situations because of the torque of the engine. Example, we'll take LR, the old Freelander Td4 engine was the same as the BMW 3 series engine. The BMW was faster off the blocks, why?? because the adaptation of the same engine on the LR was tuned for more torque and not acceleration (though it was quite quick once the turbo kicked in. From my knowledge the Wrangler has a 3.0 + litre 6 cylinder engine but it doesnt have much power like the G.Cherokee or anything. Not much torque either because its an old unit. Its basically meant to be driven by town folk... But the Jap brands though their 4X4 origins are from the Americans they tend to make honest die hard 4X4's regardless of design like the LJ79 which is still in production and the Nissan Patrol which still has old scholl features like two live axles. They do work.
