Ripper
seems to be a deep battle space team been picked up by SLAF... a bell 212 lands to pick up troops while the MI24 loiters over the area providing fire support... great stuff http://defence.lk/videos/20080815Rescue.wmv Ace If ya here...these guys seems to be flying tree top level...is this normal for our heli sorties? why did they fire decoy flares at such low levels cos aren't they not that effective at lower altitudes? All helis flying tree top level since 30 April 95 (after the first SAM was fired).Flare decoys are very effective when deployed manually at low levels bacause the auto deploy is unreliable when a SAM launch is detected within 50m.Manual deployments saved many lives and many Helis in SL. Even US troops are using the same method following SLAF and not a single heli was shot down by a SAM fire after this was practiced in Iraq & Afgan fronts.(amazing isnt it ?) Both US and SLAF using the same ECM system. MINIACE

MINIACE thanks well we'll have to rename Electronic Counter Measures into something else now then since this is manual deployment... suppose still the biggest threat is unguided munitions like good ol RPG's etc that are known to bring down even heavily armored gunships... No all ECMs we have are fully automatic with manual override option. No need to rename them.Never a Heli or a gunship was down by an RPG here. Its not easy to fire upon a heli flying 120kts and not easy to fire many degrees above horizon due strong backfire of RPGs.Aim,Target,Fire process of an RPG takes many seconds.by that time Helis long gone!! This 29th July Video is not a propaganda fabricated video. Guess only few shots were added for glamour.212s successfully evacuated few injured LRRP personnel.First 212 was delivered in 1984 and the last 1991.No matter how old they are all helis undergo manufacturer compulsory overhauls. So they are like new all the time. MINIACE

MINIACE thanks ace guess the 212's are used to pick up and transport while hinds offer fire support from above... thought the 35's were too used for this... man i can't imagine the adrenaline rush of doing something that...landing a helo in enemy territory...especially when the enemy have used manpad's before... great support for LRRP troops though... SLAF has really upped the game in the past few years... wonder how it;ll be when the 29's and new hinds too will join the fray
